What is an Apprenticeship?

Becoming an apprentice is an excellent way to learn while earning a wage.

With our range of construction industry programmes, apprentices gain valuable, in demand skills, on the job training, a nationally recognised qualification and the start of a great career in the construction sector.

Employers also benefit, helping develop an employee trained in the latest and safest ways of working and gaining a skilled and accredited addition to their workforce.

How do Apprenticeships work?

An apprenticeship involves a mix of training on site at one of our SIMIAN training centres, alongside day-to-day work with an employer in the same trade.

Apprenticeships typically run for between 18 and 24 months and the apprentice must be in full-time employment working a minimum of 30 hours per week.

Every apprentice can expect full support from their employer, building on and developing the skills covered in their SIMIAN training weeks when in their workplace.

Our SIMIAN trainers and assessors review each apprentice’s progress, providing support as needed to ensure they progress and achieve their chosen qualification.

To be eligible for one of SIMIAN’s apprenticeship programmes, learners must be sponsored by an employer.

Our courses are open to learners of all ages.

Scaffolder Apprenticeship

Why be a Scaffolder?

Being a scaffolder is a rewarding career choice for people wanting to work in the construction, oil and gas, rail and events industries.

Scaffolders provide access solutions at height or structural support for other trades.

There is currently a shortage of scaffolders, making it one of the most in-demand construction trades and a financially rewarding career. Scaffolding work is physically demanding and a great way to stay fit and in shape.

Our scaffolder apprentices have gone on to become Advanced Scaffolders (Level 3), Supervisors and Safety Professionals, as well as setting up their own scaffolding businesses.
