simbiosis.

Simbiosis is a design studio founded in 2022, based in Tijuana, Baja California, with projects in the U.S. and México. Our office specializes in designing a diverse range of spaces and objects, encompassing various typologies and scales of architecture, interior design, installations and custom-made furniture, covering high-end projects to small-scale object manufacturing.

Every project we undertake is driven by a consistent creative vision. Our goal is to collaborate closely with our clients to create architecture and designs that are both meaningful and of deep interest.

Currently, our office is involved in design commissions in México and California, led by our creative directors, Jorge Jiménez Félix and Oscar Cortés-Landa.

Oscar A. Cortés-Landa, Associate AIA

Principal I Design Director

Oscar is a licensed architect in Mexico and is currently pursuing licensure in the United States. He holds a Master of Architecture from the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) in Barcelona and a Bachelor of Architecture from Universidad Iberoamericana Tijuana.

Oscar has over 5 years of professional experience and has worked in México and the United States for award-winning firms on projects of varying scales and typologies. He has participated in architectural exhibits in the Americas and Europe and has been recognized in international design competitions.

Jorge Jiménez Félix

Principal I Design Director

Jorge is a licensed architect in Mexico. He graduated with honors in architecture from Universidad Iberoamericana Tijuana.

Jorge has over 5 years of professional experience in architecture, fabrication, and construction administration, working in award-winning offices in both Mexico and the United States. He has been recognized in multiple international design competitions and presented at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2018.

DEEP LISTENING PARTY VOL.1

Deep Listening is a series of events organized by Virtual Music Station.

Using a shoe concept store as the venue, we were tasked with designing the event space. We transformed the environment to enhance the listening experience, fabricating a 20-foot-long mirrored table where attendees could sit at floor level while watching and listening to the music curator.

The store featured a large mirror, which we strategically positioned the table against to create an infinity effect, reflecting both the audience and the arched ceiling above, illuminated with colored lighting.

MATERIA DISPUESTA

Materia Dispuesta is an annual event platform showcasing emerging creatives in food, music, and art.

This year, we created a mirrored installation composed of 32 circles as part of our ongoing spatial and material exploration. The piece was suspended from the second floor with two purposes: the circles were tilted downward to reflect the party guests, allowing for direct interaction, while also serving as a visual element for the DJ positioned on the balcony.

ALTAR DE MUERTOS

The Day of the Dead is a traditional mexican holiday to honor and remeber deceased loved ones.

For this event, we were commision with the task of creating an altar.

Our proposal respectfully honors the traditional, centuries-old ritual elements while combining them with contemporary materials. We use frosted glass, filled with traditional cempasúchil flowers from the inside, and incorporate illumination so that the shadows cast within evoke a connection with the spiritual world around us.
