TENTH ANNIVERSARY YEAR
We've started the countdown to the Village's big 10th Anniversary! There will be a swank party in the Great Hall of the Silver Spring Civic Building on the evening of Wednesday, October 11. But in the meantime, watch here, in the Vibe, in listserv chats, and in emails for retrospectives about our first decade and information about how you can ensure the Village's future for many anniversaries to come with a high-impact, tax-smart planned gift. DO YOU KNOW EVERYTHING THE VILLAGE CAN DO FOR YOU?
Most volunteer-provided services are available only to full members, but a few are also available to associate members.
Household Tasks—minor repairs, moving furniture, hanging pictures, organizing bills, reading mail, etc.
Transportation—social activities, medical appointments, shopping, errands, Village events, etc.
Errands—accompanied or unaccompanied trips to the grocery, pharmacy, post office, etc.
Friendly Visits & Calls—brief visits or phone calls to brighten your day
Home Organizing—get help organizing and tidying small spaces in your home such as kitchen cabinets, a small room, closets, etc.
Medical Notetaking a volunteer meets with you before the appointment to help you organize your thoughts, accompanies you to the appointment to ensure all your questions are addressed, and prepares written notes to be shared with you or a family member involvedinyourhealthcare
Emergency Preparedness someone to check in with you prior to a storm or other inclement weather and check your property for damageafterward
Absentee Owner Help short-term pet care, plant care, taking in newspapers or mail, periodic checking that doors are locked, etc. whenyou'reaway
Support Teams extra wraparound supports when you're experiencing a healthcare crisis or extendedrecoveryperiod
Technology Troubleshooting for times when your device that worked perfectly fine yesterdaydoesn'tworktoday
Technology Coaching multi-session one-onone coaching for times when you want to learn aspecificskillusingatechnologydevicesuchas a computer, tablet, or phone; or a smart home device such as a voice assistant, thermostat, remote control, or alarm system (available to fullandassociatemembers)
Village Website Tutoring get one-on-one help learning how to navigate the Village's website to find about the latest news and activities, get contact information for other members, see which villagers live in your neighborhood, register for an event, participate in the Village Chat, read newsletters online, and more.(availabletofullandassociatemembers)

Silver Spring Village and Silver Spring Town Center co-present a series of monthly events to enrich the lives of older adults. The series features guest speakers, musicians, artists, authors, activists, and more. SPARKLE events are open to the public. Some are in person and others are on Zoom. If you have an unneeded or unwanted car, motorcycle, boat or even an airplane you can help the Village by donating it to us Just call 1-866829-2918 or click on the "Donate Your Vehicle" menu tab on the Village's website and click on the blue "Donate Your Vehicle" link to fill out a short form We'll take care of all the details such as towing, replacing a dead battery, paperwork, tax receipts, etc You just stand on your porch and wave goodbye to your unwanted old jalopy (or sleekprivatejet)

Do you have friends or family who are curious about how you manage to have so much fun? Ask them to try out the Village with a no-risk trial membership! Residents of any zip code can join as an associate member for three months with NO UPFRONT COST!
