Curriculum Elementary School

About SBA
Silverdale Baptist Academy Elementary School is a Charlotte Mason school
We believe:
Children are born persons, created in the image of God, they are born with an appetite for knowledge, and it is our job as teachers and administrators to provide a feast for each child
Education is an atmosphere: A structured scheduled time for free play and outdoors as well as a rigorous curriculum
Education is a discipline: We emphasize the importance of forming intellectual, physical, religious, and social habits
Education is a science of relations: A broad curriculum, where children discover connections to the Creator and themselves
Education is a life: “The mind feeds on ideas and therefore children should have a generous curriculum” — Charlotte Mason
What does this look like in the classroom?
Living Book: We provide and encourage rich literature for learning We practice narration, where students practice the art of retelling what has been learned
Language: Through exposure to great literature, our children are exposed to great writing We focus on modeling the examples of great writers
Math: Students are taught critical thinking and reasoning skills through mathematical problems
Science and Nature: Students begin to understand God as the Creator of all things and their significance in being placed upon this Earth
Picture and Composer Study: Students study classical artists and composers to develop an appreciation for both art and music
History: We teach according to a timeline,so students can connect one time period to the next
SBA is different — Very different
We believe that childhood should be preserved
We believe that school should be like family, not separate from home, with one gracious Lord
We believe that knowledge is great, yet fueling imagination and serving others are even greater
We believe in your child
