New National Higher Institute of Dramatic Art in the Historic Center of Lima

Located in the Historic Center of Lima, the land next to Plaza Francia, in front of Av. Garcilaso de la Vega, was chosen. This land has a great potential, it is located in a highly cultural and educational area, so it will attract different people users. As an emphasis and main concept, “architecture as a scenographic space” was taken that represents the drama within the theater, taken from the theory of author Peter Brook and his book: empty space. In the area, you can find various typologies (ancient-modern), therefore, the project is like a fusion of both eras and can be seen represented in the spatiality, materiality and facade design. The volumetric proposal is based on a set of heights depending on the environment (on the Av. Garcilaso de la Vega is taller, and on Jr. Rufino Torrico’s side, shorter).

Shopping Center in the Center of Lima and Regeneration of Av. Abancay
Academic project 1
Year: 2018
Professors: Arch. Jorge Vargas and Arch. Jorge Gamarra
Typology: Comercial
Location: Centro de Lima
Level: IX, Professional Practice Workshop
The project started from the investigation of various sectors around the Center of Lima which have high commercial potential. One of the options was the area of the Av. Abancay, specifically at the intersection with Av. Nicolás de Pierola. At the moment, there is a commercial gallery that operates informally, which brings social problems due to it’s current architecture. Analyzing this area, it was found that there is a great commercial potential of various types. This Shopping Center will have 2 stores anchors and more than 30 independent stores, cinemas, food court, financial area and indoor/outdoor green areas. For the volumetric proposal, the taller towers are like a kind of “mirror” of the ex-building Ministry of Education, and based on that, a volumetric game that doesn’t break with the environment. A large public space was taken as the main proposal, which the entire program revolved around it.

Housing complex in Callao
Academic project 2
Year: 2018
Professors: Arch. Jorge Vargas and Arch. Julian Contreras
Typology: Residential
Location: Callao, Lima
Level: VIII, Architecture and City Workshop
The project started from the investigation of the district of Callao. Based on that, the most vulnerable area and with great architectural potential was not currently being taken advantage of. In this case, the area near to the “barracones” of Callao, near the “Complejo del Real Felipe”. We worked in groups and proposed various equipment for this project to work in its entirety. In this way, it was revalued the area generating a new focus in the city, creating investments and promoting the sale of new lots. The housing project consists of a set of apartment towers ranging from 250 to 400 m2, distributed in flats, duplexes and triplex. A landscape design was also proposed for the interior/exterior of the terrain.

Disabled bathroom project
The project consisted of the remodeling and adaptation of a bathroom so that it could be used exclusively for the disabled people. Safety bars, a stool to sit on, closets with shelves, and a walk-in shower were installed. The measures were considered both in heights and widths necessary for disabled people. For the design, an atmosphere was chosen that conveys a large space, illuminated and comfortable, of tranquility and relaxation, using materials such as wood and neutral colors.

Architecture models
Space explorations with models

The Core
Year: 2013
Professors: Arch. Hector Chiang and Arch. Michael Vargas Level: I, Introduction to Architectural Design Workshop
The project started from the elaboration of a clone, which each student projected his body on a full-scale model. Then, the home of a character fictitious was built, which had to represent a story, through its spatiality and creativity in the use of materials.

The Habitat
Year: 2013
Professors: Arch. Deysy Mondragón and Arch. Carmen Rivas Level: II, Architecture and Art Workshop
The project started from the elaboration of an Inca wall located in Cusco, Peru. Then, the anchoring system was analyzed and created the spatiality of the “inbetween” of 3 Inca stones. The user of this complex was for 3 fictional characters. Each “habitat”or stone of these characters had to be connected to each other by ramps and paths.

National Observatory - Site Museum in Pucusana Space explorations with models
Year: 2015
Professors: Arch. Deysy Mondragón and Arch. Carmen Rivas Level: V, Architecture and Environment
The project started from the idea of choosing a natural object within the study area, in the Pucusana beach, which serves as a inspiration for the development of the workshop and have a sense of typical belonging of the place. Many textures were found in the natural environment where most of the colors of the hills were orange, which It attracted quite a bit of attention. From this a stone was extracted that contained a few cracks, which later allowed us to obtain optimal results spatially. For the project, every particle of this stone represented the observatory cabins, and the cracks the spaces intermediates or “paths”.

Models of residential and cultural projects

Residential project model
Year: 2017
Professors: Arch. Gómez de la Torre and Arch. Julian Contreras Level: VII, Integration Workshop Palace Music in the Center of Lima
The Palace Music project has 3 performance halls. The concept was inspired by an opera, each volume represents a musical note and there is a set of unevenness that represents the ups and downs within this genre.

Models of residential projects elaborated in “Vásquez y López: Arquitectura y Construcción”. “Casa de Campo en Cieneguilla” (below) and “Casa en la Encantada de Villa” (right).
