THE VENTURE TORCROSS

“An amazing opportunity to purchase an edge of the sea, substantial property, ripe for development. The Venture is a thatched cottage that oozes charm, yet is not listed, providing plenty of opportunity to put your own stamp on it.”

The current owners have owned the property since 1964, originally run as a guest house until the late 1990’s when it became a family home. Sitting in Torcross it has outstanding views to the front of the sea and Start Bay to the rear of Slapton Ley, a truly special place for those who love water and nature.

Originally built in the 1800s as a pair of attached thatched cottages. There have been various additions over the years to extend the property, the major works were undertaken in the early 1900’s.

You enter via a side entrance into a large welcoming hall. From here you have a Dining room, the centre piece of which is an old wooden boat hull repurposed to create a bar. It is a room with generous windows that span the entire width of the room to make the most of the spectacular sea view.

The Drawing room, also accessed off the Hall, is well sized and has a central fireplace. Again, large windows to the sea pull you through the room.

To the rear you have a very traditional kitchen with an oil fired aga, off here there is a traditional utility room. Also, at the rear or the property you have what was once a self-contained annex, now configured as a bedroom, bathroom and study.

On the first floor you find three good sized double bedrooms, all with great water views, light filled and high ceilings that create a feeling of generous and calm space. One of the bedrooms has a very interesting, exposed stone wall that adds a statement. Individual sinks in bedrooms that hark back to a different era are still in place.

Two bathrooms, all fully functioning are located on this floor. This property also has rooms underneath the property that are accessed via an outside door provide fabulous storage opportunity, although the ceiling height may restrict their use.

The secret courtyard provides a beautifully secluded sunny terrace with fabulous stone walls. It is mainly gravel providing plenty of opportunity for wonderful potted plants to flourish and a place for dining alfresco or relaxing in the sun. The gem of this property is its garage and workshop, a bonus for a house so close to the sea. An opportunity to put the obvious car in, or boats and water sports equipment.
