The Apartments

Each apartment has been completely rebuilt from the ground up, with Damai (meaning Peace in Indonesian) occupying the first floor and Santai (Relax) on the top Both homes showcase clean, sophisticated interiors with subtle global influences, microcement bathrooms, and bespoke features that tell a story from antique carved doors to reclaimed timber accents.

Character & Craftsmanship

Historic elements have been lovingly restored or sourced with care. The communal hallway is accessed via a 200-year-old door found in Jaipur, India, restored by artisans known to the owners for over a decade The lime-wash walls are punctuated with antique artefacts, including a Turkish olive jar and an Indian jhalil window frame, giving the space a grounded, soulful feel.

The staircase retains its original Georgian charm, with the upper section sympathetically recreated by a local carpenter Even the building’s indenture, dating to the reign of George I, hangs proudly near the entrance

Additional Features

Soundproofing between apartments (certification available)

Underfloor heating in bathrooms (Wi-Fi controlled)

Antique and reclaimed materials throughout

Original Georgian features retained where possible

Beautifully designed bathrooms finished in microcement

A private storeroom (with future opportunity to divide)

Outdoor Space & Light

Santai enjoys a private terrace that captures the morning sun and holds it through to midday. Large sash windows in both apartments flood the spaces with natural light, and clever conservation-compliant window film has been installed to reduce UV exposure and improve insulation.

Location & Lifestyle

Tucked just off Leechwell Street, these apartments are remarkably peaceful despite their central location. The neighbouring courtyard, owned by the adjacent harp shop, includes a historic right of way (which has never been exercised), ensuring privacy is preserved.

A Rare Opportunity

Whether as a stylish permanent residence, a lock-up-and-leave bolthole, or a smart investment, Damai and Santai offer a rare chance to own a piece of Totnes history reimagined for modern living.
