A time to be born:

On October 30th, 1974, Maria Forbes welcomed her first child, a lively baby boy, at Princess Margaret Hospital. He grew quickly and proved to be an independent toddler, bringing immense joy to his mother, grandmother, and aunts as he learned to walk, talk, and explore the world around him.

However, on June 10th, 1977, tragedy struck when a devastating house fire broke out while Mario at age 3 and his cousin Dominic, driven by hunger, navigated the kitchen using a kerosene lamp. They had been enjoying a second helping of dumpling soup prepared by Mario’s late grandmother when the lamp fell, igniting an uncontrollable blaze that consumed their home and belongings.

The family was gripped by terror, believing the two boys had perished in the fire. Emotions ran high as they mourned what they thought was the loss of their children. Fortunately, a Good Samaritan neighbor Mr. Adrian Adderley rescued Mario and Dominic before the fire could claim them completely, rushing them to Princess Margaret Hospital for urgent medical care.

The family experienced a profound relief and joy upon learning that both boys had survived the ordeal. Mario recovered from minor burns and smoke inhalation, and he continued to enjoy a happy childhood surrounded by his cousins and loving family.

A time to learn:

On September 3rd, 1979, Mario embarked on his educational journey at William Gordan Primary School on Wulff Road. He thrived in the learning environment, forming close friendships with Fabian ‘Tex’, Mody (who predeceased him) and Keyno, who became like brothers to him and remained lifelong friends.

Transitioning to Government High School on September 2nd, 1985 for junior high, Mario continued to excel academically while also making a name for himself in sports. Under the guidance of Coach Sidney Cartwright, he became a standout track and field athlete and a star in soccer, earning numerous awards and medals for his school.

In June 1991, at the age of 17, Mario successfully completed his high school education, marking a significant milestone in his young adult life.

A time to work:

After completing High School, Mario continued working at John Chea on Robinson Road & East Street where he was a packing boy since high school. He remained employed at that establishment for a number of years. As time progressed, he realized, he wanted to challenge his skills and joined the construction site of the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island. He remained in construction for approximately seven plus years. After Construction, Mario sought out employment in the area of Security, where he was employed with Migrafill Security Group sometime in 2010. In the role of Security, he upheld his position and guarded his station with pride. He was stationed at the RBC branch on Mackey Street for a great amount of time, where he developed great friendship and relationship with many of the bank staff and customers. He was always courteous to all that walked through the bank doors. On August 8th, 2018 he later joined the Clifton Heritage Foundation Security team where he was last employed. There, he developed and maintained an excellent relationship with his co-workers, management, as well as served the visitors to the best of his abilities.

A time to live:

Mario experienced profound moments in his life, marked by joy and sorrow. On March 31st, 1995, he celebrated becoming a father for the first time, filled with overwhelming happiness upon learning he had a son. Naming the baby after himself, MJ became Mario’s pride and joy from the moment of his birth. Mario remained deeply involved in MJ’s life, cherishing their father-son bond through countless happy moments.

A new chapter unfolded on June 12th, 2005, when Mario welcomed his beloved daughter, his princess My’Ia Maria Forbes. This added another precious bond to Mario’s life that was irreplaceable. His perspective on the world changed profoundly with the arrival of his two beautiful children. Mario dedicated himself to spending quality time with them and providing unwavering support, ensuring they knew the love and presence of their father throughout their lives.

However, Mario’s life also bore the weight of profound loss. In 1992, he mourned the passing of his first love, his mother, followed shortly by the loss of his baby sister. The pain deepened in 2009 with the disappearance of his brother Davaldo at sea, an absence that left Mario grappling with immense sorrow and disbelief. Despite these hardships, Mario found solace and strength in his remaining siblings, Shenica and Victoria, his younger sisters. He expressed his love openly to them, always ensuring they knew they held a special place in his heart.

Mario’s presence at family gatherings was a source of joy and light, where he danced and shared laughter with loved ones. His warmth and fun-loving nature endeared him to everyone around him, leaving lasting memories of his vibrant spirit and deep love for his family.

A time to die:

On June 24, 2024, Mario was taken to the hospital by his sister Victoria and her oldest son Demario Jr. due to persistent pain he had experienced intermittently for about a month. Unable to walk or communicate, his nephew had to carry him into the emergency room. The medical team in the ER made every effort to resuscitate him. Sadly, their attempts proved unsuccessful, and Mario took his last breath that day.

Recessional Hymn .................................................................................................“It Is Well With My Soul”

When peace like a river attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll; Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, “It is well, it is well with my soul.”

Refrain: It is well with my soul; it is well, it is well with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, Let this blest assurance control: That Christ has regarded my helpless estate, And has shed his own blood for my soul.

My sin oh, the bliss of this glorious thought My sin, not in part, but the whole, Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more; Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

O Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, The clouds be rolled back as a scroll; The trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend; Even so, it is well with my soul. Refrain

Hymn ..................................................................................................................................“It’s Alright Now”

There was a time I traveled

A lonely sinful road

Beneath a heavy burden bending low

But now all things are different

For Jesus took my load

A-down a lonely pathway

Without a friend to guide

I walked in sin and sorrow all alone

‘Til Jesus came and found me

And drew me to His side It’s alright now I’m His I know

Refrain:

It’s alright now

For I am in my Savior’s care

It’s alright now for I’m His own

No more in sin I wander

No more in darkness roam It’s alright now

My feet on higher ground

My Savior hears and answers prayer

Each day new heights I’m gaining He’ll walk beside me

My soul is nearing home

‘Til I climb the heav’nly stair

It’s alright now I’m heaven bound And ev’rything is alright now

Committal Hymn .............................................................................................................“The Eastern Gate”

I will meet you in the morning,

Keep your lamps all trimmed and burning; Just inside the Eastern Gate; For the Bridegroom watch and wait; Then be ready, faithful pilgrim, He’ll be with us at the meeting Lest with you it be too late. Just inside the Eastern Gate.

Refrain

I will meet you, I will meet you

Oh, the joys of that glad meeting Just inside the Eastern Gate over there; With the saints who for us wait! I will meet you, I will meet you,

What a blessed, happy meeting I will meet you in the morning over there. Just inside the Eastern Gate!

If you hasten off to glory, Linger near the Eastern Gate, For I’m coming in the morning; So you’ll not have long to wait.

“In The Words of Helen Steiner Rice”

People everywhere in life, from every walk of life have given us so many things intangible and dear. We couldn’t begin to count them all, or even make them clear; we only know we owe so much to people everywhere. You have brought sunshine into our home; you have visited, prayed, through gifts of all kinds, called asked about us and simply cared. For this we are thankful. Our sorrow is easier to bear with the help from God and friends like you. We appreciate all you have done for us during our hour of bereavement.

May God richly bless you all, the family!
