Noah Schwartz and his kids,

Frank & Pepper...

Who are bound to draw you in with their smiles and charm!

When I arrived at the home of Noah Schwartz the gate was open and I pulled in and parked. A couple of minutes later Noah pulled in, parked and stepped out of his blue, 1970’s Chevy truck. He introduced himself and motioned for me to come through the backyard to enter his home through the backslider. His down to earth vibe was instantly evident as I followed him inside. “All my friends come through this door,” he added.

I looked around his home and what I noticed right away was Noah’s casual, understated style. From his home décor (featuring a custom-made “Shoefly’” sign above his dining table and his plush leather sofa in the next room), down to his plaid shirt and upscale jeans…there was a sense of comfortable luxury about him and his abode.

Noah, a native Californian, was born in San Francisco and grew up on a ranch in Loomis. His parents divorced when he was 12 and his family moved to Sacramento. During this time he went back and forth between his mom in Land Park and his dad in Sierra Oaks, and shortly before high school, his dad purchased a home on American River Drive.

Noah attended Country Day School, then Jesuit and Rio Americano to play golf. After graduating from Rio, he went on to attend Sacramento State on a golf scholarship, where he obtained a business degree.

same buildings,” he recalls, “kissing girls, smoking cigarettes, and being a typical trouble-maker.” “We (best friend Josh Modlin who lives in SOV) thought we were so tough in our Ralph Lauren V-neck sweaters as the Sierra Oaks gang,” reminisces Noah. “We really weren’t a gang…and were not tough at all. Well, yes, we were kinda,” says Noah with a wry smile.

Noah also jokes about his love for old American Muscle and attends auto auctions often where he has purchased cars in the past. One time upon leaving the auction recently, Pepper said, “Daddy, don’t spend so much money that we lose the house.”

Noah’s response, “With some good luck and a lot of hard work baby, we’ll be able to stay.”

After college, Noah tried his hand in the banking industry, before leaving Wells Fargo to open his own stores in fashion. “Shoefly” was the name of my first store,” Noah adds with a hint of personal pride. “It was a moderate to upper-end shoe store for men and women.” He also had a stake in a clothing store as well and had a successful run for over 10 years, until he decided to move into a more secure business opportunity to better support his family and start working toward his childhood dreams.

“As a kid, I always dreamed of owning a home in Sierra Oaks, (hoping one day to be on Hopkins or Crocker Road), as well as belonging to Del Paso Country Club,” Noah boasts. He also thought it would be really cool to one day own a business in Sierra Oaks and work from there as well. Noah says, “In my mind, I will have really made it if I could live in Sierra Oaks, join Del Paso CC and have my office in the neighborhood as well.” (All while realizing there’s more to life, but still a formidable goal.)

After a few years working hard with Ringler, as a Settlement Consultant, Noah and his family were able to buy a home on American River Drive, five doors down from his dad. This was really great for his young family at the time as they enjoyed many treasured moments with his dad.

A few years later he and his family were able to make the move to another home on Hopkins Road…the place he and his two kids now call home. The Schwartz kids, Frank, (7), and Pepper, (9), enjoy spending half their time with their dad in Sierra Oaks and the other half with their mom in East Sac. Frank and Pepper both go to St. Ignatius School and enjoy playing golf, soccer and horseback riding. Pepper loves to play volleyball as well.

Noah has enjoyed Del Paso Country Club for 40 years, first with his parents and grandparents and for the past 15 years with his own membership. He loves getting out to play with his kids, who also love the game (and suiting up to a tee with their dad). “The kids actually take lessons from the same guy I did a few decades ago,” says Noah, “It’s so cool to watch Mike (Green) teaching them, showing them many of the same things he taught me years ago,” Noah adds, triggering waves of nostalgia for him.

And most recently, when a commercial place on Drake Circle came up for sale (only 76 paces from his home), Noah jumped at the opportunity. He purchased the building in his, along with Frank’s and Pepper’s names which he feels gives his kids a sense of ownership, pride and responsibility,

Noah and his kiddos love living in Sierra Oaks. “Life has come full circle for me and my kids and I couldn’t be happier,” Noah says.

“We can’t imagine living anywhere but here!”

After meeting and conversing with Noah and his charming family, it is apparent...of all his accomplishments, he is most proud of his two adorable kids and the fact that he is self-made. And as I’m reading this final version of the feature with him over the phone… he chimes in jokingly…”And don’t forget to add the part where I’m sexy as all hell!” I quickly respond with, “Uhh, that’s debatable Noah,” (even though I tend to agree). Just doing my part in keeping him down to earth.

Say Hello to Franklin...

The Bearded Dragon!

Family Members: Kristen Puff and Savannah Oliver

Kristen and Savannah have owned Franklin, the bearded dragon, since July of 2020. When they first got Franklin, he was about 4 months old and was kept in a 40-gallon tank.

Now Franklin lives in a 120-gallon tank that measures 4-feet x 2-feet x 2-feet and Kristen and Savannah custom-built his current tank themselves. It includes vinyl flooring and vinyl sheet walls in a stone pattern and a dirt floor.

When fully grown, Franklin will grow to a length of two feet, from head to tail. He eats all kinds of veggies and many types of worms and bugs.

His favorite veggie is collard greens.

Other veggies he eats are dandelion greens, and occasionally mustard greens. His favorite bugs/worms are hornworms and crickets. However, he also eats silkworms, superworms, dubia roaches and Phoenix worms.

Savannah and Kristen breed some of the bugs themselves in order to save money on feeder bugs. Some of these include superworms and dubia roaches. They also grow their own greens and veggies that Franklin loves to eat.

Meet Sofie Incaudo, a junior at St. Francis High School. Sofie has grown up in Sierra Oaks with her mom, dad, 12-year-old brother Angelo, and two Boston Terriers.

Sofie’s passion is musicals. She started performing in fourth grade and has been in fourteen shows with River City Theatre Company, a musical theater group for kids ages 6 to 19.

At St. Francis, Sofie takes theater arts class and is also in Concert Choir, where she studies vocal and performance techniques. Both experiences, along with singing lessons, help fine-tune Sofie’s skills for her roles in River City Theatre musicals.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Sofie says she balanced school and theater easily. She recalls that the only challenge she faced was “technical week,” the week before opening night when all of the technical elements such as costumes, sound and lighting are present during rehearsal for the first time.

“The thing about tech week is that you have to be at the theater at 5:30, you get home at 11:00, and then you have school the next morning,” Sofie explains. “Your sleep schedule gets so messed up, and it’s hard to do homework and study.”

One of Sofie’s favorite things about performing is that she is able to take on the role of a different person.

“It’s so fun to dress up in a costume and become someone else to entertain people,” Sofie says.

Sofie’s best memories of her theater career include her performances in River City’s’ Lion King and Beauty and the Beast, as well as their production of Legally Blonde, where Sofie played the role of Whitney in the musical.

When asked who her biggest inspiration is, Sofie has a response as unique as she is: “I’ve never looked up to someone and thought about wanting to be them,” Sofie confesses. “I like to be my own person and listen to myself instead of wanting to mirror someone else.”

And while theater has taught Sofie many life lessons over the years, she is quick to acknowledge that the most important skill she has learned is to be brave on stage.

“I get so nervous dancing in front of people, but theater has taught me to have courage and not let those voices in my head get to me,” Sofie says. “It has taught me to be rather fearless and has given me a lot of self-confidence.”

Sofie was just getting ready to perform in the musical Matilda with River City Theatre Company when the COVID-19 shutdown began in March. The show was canceled, leaving Sofie extremely disappointed.

“I was really upset because it felt like all of my hard work had gone to waste,” recalls Sofie.”It’s really hard when you

put all that time and effort into something and you don’t get to do it at all.”

In spite of the canceled show and the ongoing hold on in-person performances, Sofie maintains a positive attitude. It’s one of the things Sofie does best.

“I’m really good at staying optimistic and I love to support people,” Sofie says. “When friends are nervous to go on stage, I tell them they’re going to do great! I always make sure they know they’re talented.”

What does the future hold for Sofie? That remains to be seen.

She is interested in attending the University of California, San Diego after graduation because she likes San Diego – and is a big fan of the school’s mascot, “King Triton.” Sofie happens to be a big fan of Disney’s The Little Mermaid.

Who knows? Maybe one day Sofie will play the lead role of Ariel.

Whatever path she chooses, we know Sofie will give it her all.

Eventually, Kevin went to work as an executive chef at Blackbird. He was 23. There, he helped design the kitchen and was involved in the construction of the original restaurant. This job also solidified Kevin as one of the BEST chefs in Sacramento. However, he was young, and it didn’t take long for him to burn out. This is when Kevin decided to move to Montana where he rode horses, hiked, worked at a ranch and hung out with different native locals. While he was there, Kevin had an epiphany. He became re-inspired to start cooking again, with a greater respect for where food comes from.

When Kevin returned to California from Montana, he worked for Coi and Saison...two of the best restaurants in San Francisco. And, even though this was one of his biggest dreams, Kevin once again grew restless and decided it was time to come back home.

Growing up with a family who loves food, Kevin O’Connor knew he wanted to be a chef when he was only 9 years old. By the time Kevin was 14 years old, he got his first job at Snooty Frog in El Dorado Hills as a dishwasher and prep cook. By 16, Kevin landed a cook position at Serrano Country Club. Working this position when he was so young really changed his life...Kevin fell in love with fine dining. Before graduating high school, Kevin also helped open Bistro 33 in Town Center as a lead line cook. By the time Kevin was 19, he helped open up another restaurant known as Mix as a sous chef.

After graduating high school, Kevin moved to Downtown Sacramento, securing a job in a restaurant called Masons which helped him further pursue fine dining. Additionally, Kevin used to be the designated driver for many local wineries, which helped build a strong foundation to carry him into the culinary career he launched for himself.

It wasn’t long before he decided to move to France on a one-way ticket where he stayed for the next four to five months. He worked at different restaurants and as a private chef on a yacht in Nice. He also spent some time in Monaco and a few wineries in the south of France. Kevin was inspired in France where they had communal tables and long, drawn-out evening dinners.

After returning home, Kevin was living with his parents when he decided to open a pop-up restaurant, operating it out of their home. When he moved out on his own, he continued the pop up in downtown Sac and was highlighted in Sacramento Magazine.

Next, Kevin got a job at Ella, one of the finest restaurants in Sacramento, as a line cook at the fish station. He left Ella to work at The Kitchen for a time.

While at The Kitchen, he fell in love with food again. He really enjoyed the fun and laid-back vibe working at The Kitchen, especially the casual interaction with clients and the theatrical style of cooking.

Kevin saved some money and started doing pop up restaurants again.

Then Kevin got an offer to work as an executive chef and help open a restaurant called Saddle Rock with Chris Yaro. While being in the conceptual stages of Saddle Rock, Kevin was contacted by an olive oil company called Cobram Estate. Cobram Estate was expanding to the U.S. market with olive oil production in California and he was asked to cater a lunch at the olive grove. The catered event was a knockout so Kevin did a couple more events with the company. He also did a photo shoot for their website and filmed a food show for them. Not long after, Cobram offered Kevin a position in Australia. Kevin moved there and dove deeper into olive oil and its history. He became involved with the Olive Oil Council of California, The Olive Oil Times, and he completed The New York International Olive Oil Sommelier certification course. Now, he is a certified olive oil sommelier and also sits on a panel to certify extra virgin oils. Although Kevin does not work for Cobram anymore, he is still an ambassador for the Cobram Estate.
