The Mesa Community College Athletic Department has announced that Jordan Abalos Herrington will be taking over as the new head coach of the Thunderbirds volleyball program.
Coach Herrington looks to bring the volleyball program back to its winning ways. After an impressive four year run from 2016-2019 that included a Region I/ ACCAC tournament title and an appear ance in the NJCAA Div. II National Tour nament, the T-Birds volleyball program finished with a disappointing record of 5-13 last season.
"We are extremely fortunate to have Coach Jordan Abalos Herrington as our new head volleyball coach," said Athletic Director John Mulhern. "She has the experience, passion and commitment to make our volleyball program one of the best. We look forward to the future".
Prior to joining MCC, Coach Herrington was the head women's beach volleyball coach at Benedictine University in Mesa from January 2021 - January 2022 and was the head varsity volleyball coach at Skyline High School from July 2021 - July 2022.Jordan Abalos Herrington grew up in Safford, AZ and graduated from Safford High School. She played indoor volleyball at New Mexico State University from 2014 - 2017. The Aggies made an NCAA
tournament appearance in her time there. Herrington was the StudentAthlete Association Council (SAAC) Vol leyball Representative and a Leader ship Council member. Herrington was also named the team captain for the 2016 and 2017 seasons and earned All-WAC first-team honors in 2014 and 2016. During her senior year in Las Cruces, Herrington was an assistant coach for the Diamondback Volleyball Club. Herrington graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

Sara Hansen Wright joins the MCC coaching staff for the first time in 2022 under new head coach Jordan Abalos Herrington.Wrightiscurrently also working as JV coach at Westwood High School in Mesa, AZ, along with coaching club teams. She has a Bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University where she graduated in 2022.
Previously she attended Mesa CC where she played volleyball from 2018-2020 leading the team in blocking in both of her two years.
Herrington then transferred to the University of Arizona and was on the Wildcats beach volleyball team for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. She was also a member on the Leadership Council at U of A and earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership.
After earning her master's degree, Herrington moved to Goodyear to be a secondary education English teacher at Estrella Foothills High School. From July 2019 - May 2020, she was the varsity assistant coach for indoor volleyball and the varsity head coach for beach volley ball. From August 2020- December 2020, she was the head varsity volleyball coach at ALA-Queen Creek was the coordinator for the East Valley Juniors Beach Volley ball Club in Phoenix From July 2020 - July Herrington2021.
earned a Master of Educa tion in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University and she is currently the club director and owner of the AZ3 Volleyball Club in Mesa.
Jordan is married to Dalton Herrington. "I love all things outdoors and family. If I am not in the gym, I am either with my husband and two golden retrievers Hank and Ace or spending time watching my sisters play sports."
