OVERVIEW OF 2025 GOALS

As we embark on 2025, Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview is geared for growth and connection. This year, we will transition into the innovative Wingaru building, a stateof-the-art facility that will enhance our educational offerings, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering & Applied Studies, Mathematics, and PDHPE. Additionally, we welcome our new Principal, Mark Tannock, who brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to our community.

Our strategic goals for 2025 focus on enhancing Ignatian spirituality and faith formation, elevating teaching and learning, fostering holistic wellbeing, nurturing community, and streamlining resources. This includes the strategic implementation of the Ethos and Identity Review recommendations, a commitment to

curriculum renewal in line with NESA requirements, and a comprehensive pastoral care program that reflects our students’ wellbeing needs.

Together, we aim to create a nurturing environment where every student can thrive spiritually, academically, physically, and socially. We invite all members of our community—parents, staff, and students—to participate in this exciting year of development and engagement.

WELCOME

We are excited to welcome Mark Tannock as our new Principal. Importantly, Mark’s commitment to Jesuit education aligns with our mission to develop wellrounded individuals who are prepared to lead with integrity and compassion. His extensive background in teaching and co-curricular activities will greatly benefit students and staff, and he is looking forward to embracing the opportunities in boarding, the Inclusion Program, and the First Nations Program.

As we transition, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our former Principal, Dr. Paul Hine. His instrumental role in the creation of this strategic overview and his significant support during Mark’s onboarding over the recent break have been invaluable. We bid farewell to Dr. Hine and his wife, Dr. Ann Hine, with deep appreciation for their many and varied contributions over the past twelve years.

Mark is eager to immerse himself in the College community, prioritising connections with students, staff, and families. He will engage with various members of the school community, including the P&F, BPA, and OIU, to foster a collaborative and supportive environment. The comprehensive Principal Transition and Onboarding Framework will ensure Mark receives a thorough induction to the community, allowing him to effectively navigate the College landscape over the next year.

Together, we look forward to an enriching year filled with growth and shared experiences.

Warm regards,

2025 SC HOOL GO AL S

Dear Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview Community,

As I commence in the role of Principal of our Jesuit school in 2025, I express my heartfelt gratitude for the warm welcome I have already received.

This is an important time for myself and my family; and we are genuinely excited to be joining the Riverview Community this year. I have much to learn and I am looking forward to meeting parents, staff and Old Boys in the months to come.

I am especially looking forward to getting to know our students and committing myself to their care and formation in the Jesuit tradition. Consistent with this tradition, I am committed to fostering an environment where each student is known, and each is challenged to be a man for and with others.

As Principal, my approach in the coming 12 months will be to listen and learn from our community so that I can develop a deep understanding of this unique school and its mission. I will do so under the stewardship of the College Board and working alongside our Rector, Fr Tom Renshaw SJ.

I am excited to be joining our Boarding team throughout the year when I visit our regional families in Scone, Dubbo, Orange, Griffith, Wagga Wagga and Jugiong. The nature of Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview as a boarding school was one reason why I was so attracted to the role of Principal.

I also look forward to engaging with our staff, P&F, BPA and OIU representatives, starting with the Welcome to

2025 social evening. Important moments for our staff will include new staff orientation and professional development days where we will seek to deepen the culture of excellence at the College. I hold that the most important variable in each boy’s education is the quality of the teacher who walks alongside him in the classroom.

Connecting with our students is a priority for me. I am eager to meet with student leaders and representatives across all year groups, and I anticipate meaningful moments at orientation activities, opening Masses and Assemblies that will set the tone for the school year. Our mission is oriented towards the boys and their formation.

I am excited to meet you, learn from you and to contribute to a school environment that proposes Christ as the model for human life to every member of the community.

I am eager to embrace the traditions of Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview and to seek the Magis as we pursue our mission into the future.

EVOLVING TEACHING & LEARNING

As we transition into the new Wingaru building, with occupancy expected to commence in Term 3 of 2025, we are committed to maintaining continuity in teaching and learning. The Wingaru building will enhance our capacity to support students in their academic pursuits, particularly in STEM and PDHPE disciplines.

We are also delighted to welcome Lloyd Walker to the College as Deputy Principal of Teaching & Learning. Lloyd, who previously served as Dean of Teaching and Learning, returns after gaining valuable experience as Director of Teaching and Learning at Roseville College. His leadership and vision for teaching and learning will be integral as we continue to enhance the academic experience for our students in the years ahead. This year, we will focus on curriculum renewal in alignment with NESA requirements, ensuring our programs are contemporary and relevant. The effective integration of the Teaching and Learning Framework (TALF) into classroom practices will be a priority, fostering innovative teaching methods that enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

We aim to cultivate a data-informed culture that empowers our staff to utilise data effectively, ultimately

enhancing literacy outcomes across the school. As we prepare for the occupancy of the Wingaru building, existing spaces will be repurposed to ensure equity in pastoral care and faculty spaces.

We eagerly anticipate hosting official open events and tours for this landmark addition to our teaching and learning precinct.

GOVERNANCE

As we navigate the year ahead, the Board is committed to consolidating the work of its Committees to enhance our strategic initiatives.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Rosalie Nott and Richard Pegum who concluded their dedicated service as Directors of the College Board in December 2024. Their contributions have been invaluable.

We are pleased to welcome Daniel Street and Sarah Dunn as new Directors of the College Board, who commenced in late 2024. Their expertise and fresh perspectives will undoubtedly enrich our discussions. The Board is looking forward to working closely with the Rector and the Principal to develop a new Strategic Directions document for 2026-2030. This five-year plan will ensure that we continue to fulfill our mission in line with the contemporary directions of Jesuit education, guiding the College through the next chapter of its growth and development.

PASTORAL CARE

Fostering holistic wellbeing remains a priority at Saint Ignatius’ College. In 2025, we will review and develop our Years 7-12 pastoral initiative program to better reflect the wellbeing needs of our diverse student body.

Broader relationships with partner schools will enable us to embed respectful and enriching programs, reinforcing our commitment to building a caring community. Additionally, we will strengthen the Co-Curricular program at the Regis Campus and the Senior School, ensuring that students have access to a range of enriching experiences that promote teamwork, personal growth, and development.

Through these initiatives, we aim to create a supportive environment where every student feels valued, connected, and empowered to flourish.

FAITH & FORMATION

In 2025, our commitment to Ignatian spirituality and faith formation remains a cornerstone of our educational philosophy. We continue to strategically implement recommendations from the Ethos and Identity Review to deepen our community’s engagement with our mission and Jesuit charism.

The consolidation and strengthening of the International Immersion Program will provide our students with transformative experiences in Cambodia, Nepal, and India, allowing them to serve others while deepening their sense of  faith. Additionally, we will partner with Pastoral Care to deliver a reflection day on Consent and Sex Education, fostering open dialogue that supports our students’ personal and spiritual development.

These priorities, in conjunction with school masses, liturgies and retreats, aim to cultivate an environment where faith, service, and personal growth are integral to the educational journey at Saint Ignatius’ College.

COMMUNITY

We are grateful for the leadership of our community representatives: Leesa Feilen, P&F President; Fiona Bassingthwaighte, BPA President; and Sean Cunial, OIU President. Their commitment, along with that of the P&F Executive and OIU Executive, is integral to our community engagement.

We also extend our appreciation to Liz Thorp, Jules Lenehan, and Sean Cunial for their dedicated service in 2024. Together with our community leaders, we anticipate another vibrant year filled with opportunities for connection and celebration.

The year will begin with the Welcome to 2025 Social, followed by events such as the Gold Cup Regatta and City Country Luncheons. These gatherings are important in fostering a strong sense of belonging and camaraderie.

RESOURCE, ENVIRONMENT, AND RISK MANAGEMENT

In 2025, our focus is on enhancing resource efficiency and ensuring a smooth leadership transition. With a commitment to continuous improvement, we will streamline our policy management and quality assurance processes, ensuring that our practices align with the best interests of our students and the College community.

A key area of focus will be the further development of our sustainability policy, guiding our efforts toward environmental stewardship. Additionally, we will prioritise digital transformation, best practice AI infrastructure, systems technology, and ICT security to better support our educational objectives.

These initiatives are essential for ensuring a robust and secure environment that enhances our students’ learning experiences.

GRATITUDE

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Old Ignatian Union for their unwavering support throughout the past year. Special appreciation goes to Sean Cunial (OR1987) for continuing his role as OIU President in 2025. We eagerly anticipate Sean’s contributions and look forward to engaging with our alumni during various community events throughout the year.

Together, we look forward to a year filled with growth, connection, and shared success as we continue to embody the spirit of Saint Ignatius and uphold the values that unite our community.

This strategic overview serves as a guide for the exciting journey ahead in 2025 at Saint Ignatius’ College Riverview.

The P&F’s vision for 2025 is to strengthen and enrich our vibrant community, grounded in Ignatian values of connection, inclusion, generosity, and collaboration. We are excited to continue supporting the Bursary Program while creating opportunities for everyone to engage, celebrate, and contribute to our wonderful community.
