I am an Architecture graduate with a Master’s degree in Architecture from University of Canberra and a Bachelor’s in Architecture from Anna University, Chennai. I strongly believe in a style of architecture where “form follows function” and I try to integrate this concept throughout all my designs and projects. My strength is the focus on geometrical aspects of a design, which I believe increases the efficiency of the spatial arrangement, and in turn gives function to a structure. I enjoy the process of designing from the ground up and how some spaces are organically created to give function.

IhavebeenresidinginCanberraforthepastthree years, and I love this city and its architecture. Mid modernist buildings with exposed material and colors that do not blind your eyes are some of the best things I love about Canberra. Coming from the Gods own country - Kerala, India I have a great sense of appreciation for architectural master crafts. The evolution of architecture in Kerala followed closely the trend of development in temple architecture and the primitive models of circular, square, rectangular plain shapes with ribbed roof evolved from the functional consideration, which has greatly inspired me to design functional structures and not solely based on aestheticconsiderations.

WEEMALA -Residence

Type: Design Project

Location: 426 Denley Drive, Wamboin, NSW

Year: 2018 - 2019

Weemala – An Aboriginal word meaning "Distant View".

The project aims to build a modest home on the elevated parts of the land to provide a beautiful view of the mountains behind, and a dwelling that absorbs all of the natural light surrounding the land without losing the incredible views. The project adapts to vastu shastra concept to achieve harmony and prosperous living by eliminating negative energies and integrating the elements of nature.

SHASTRA = SCIENCE

LOCATION & FUNCTIONS

North-East: Allocated to fire, Kitchen, Pantry can be in this area.

South-East: Allocated to water, bore well, rain water tank in this area.

South-West: Allocated to air, Guest room, store room for goods will be here.

North-West: Allocated to earth, stable of elements, best for master bedroom.

Entry: Entrance to the house from the east ( The energy from the sun during sunrise is very beneficial for health.)

Head towards South: South considered as negative pole and North considered as positive pole (head as positive charge and leg as negative charge) level of repulsion will occur which make system unbalanced.

CONCEPT

The concept of Vastu Shastra is based on five elements (Panchabootas),air,water,fire,earth & space. It is considered by the directions of elements of nature. The main aim of Vastu Shastra is for transferring positive cosmic energy from the sun.

VERTICAL SCHOOL

Type: Design Project

Location: Braddon, Canberra, ACT

Year: 2018 - 2019

Vertical school is designed to accommodate the full range of teaching, administration, and recreational activities within the building, often with outdoor spaces constructed on upper levels. New vertical schools ranging in heights are now starting to be commissioned across all Australian mainland states. As a result, it is aimed to be in a central location, which usually have limited space, hence the focus is given on the verticality of the structure.

This structure is designed with the main circulation at the centre inter-connecting the different levels of event spaces. Hence the different event spaces are categorised into public, semi-public, and private spaces. Public spaces are located at the ground levels, providing easier access for the public and the private spaces at the top of the structure where public access will be limited.

DICKSON ARCHIPELAGO RECHARGED

Location: Dickson, Canberra, ACT

Year: 2019-2020

Dickson is generally known as “Dickson shops” to Canberrans. This project was aimed at liberating Dickson from this name tag and making it a centre of not just shops but a hub buzzing with activities.

Taking into consideration the requirements of this project, we wanted to connect the tram services to Dickson, which would increase the footfall. There is also a public library which is an epitome of modernism, and we wanted this symbol of heritage to be the heart of Dickson. We thought that adding a cultural centre close to the library would make this a multicultural space. Hence, we divided the area into a cultural centre, residential area, commercial area, and parking with the library being the centre of attention.

MATERIAL

Considering the geographical boundaries and to utilise the available space to its full potential, I decided to opt for the following form of the building. The main circulation of this building in concrete which connects the two different forms, acting as a support for the structure. Concrete steel and glass are the major materials used for this building. The vertical concrete structure which connects the two different forms not only act as a major circulatory organ of the building but also balances the structure of the building. Three types of glass were adapted within this structure –transparent, translucent, and opaque which is used to convert and distribute the lights throughout the building.

RESIDENCE 01

Year: 2021 - 2022

Area: 364.9 m²

The client has a family of four, with their parents often visiting them. They would often conduct parties that would have around 30 people. Their dream was a single storied split-level house which was VASTU friendly and wanted a courtyard like central space.

I was in charge of this project from the start to the end. I made sure that the living space, kitchen, and the family living were all connected and was given double height so that these areas would be spacious and full of light. I have implemented a contemporary modern elevation for this residence.

Area: 510.84 m²

The owners wanted to renovate the existing double story house to a contemporary style and create more space within the footprint of the existing house.

The major challenge was to achieve all the refurbishments approved through a Certifier approval process to minimize the timeframe instead of development process.

The spaces are linked by movement through a series of spaces which relate to each other. Maximizing the size of Lounge, Living, Dining and Kitchen space along with proposed master bedroom connected to the open deck and pool welcomes the maximum amount of eastern and northern light to the dwelling.

The project is under construction and expected to be completed by end of 2023.

The proposed Multi dwelling units consists of Large Two 4 bedroom and 1 Three Bedroom Units with Double Garage.

The project is under the DA approval Process.
