EXPERIENCE SHWAYDER MAGIC At 10,200 feet, Shwayder Camp is located in Colorado on the slopes of Mt. Evans. Known for it’s breathtaking views, our mountain paradise offers campers a unique experience filled with adventure, friendship, Jewish values and tons of memories.

Established in 1949, Shwayder Camp is the oldest Reform Jewish summer camp in the United States. Through the years campers look forward to returning to camp - their home away from home.

Surrounded by friends and nature, campers can express themselves, explore new opportunities, develop their independence and have fun. Our community is a safe environment where all of our campers share a special bond with one another.

Shwayder will continue to provide a variety of activities this summer while following COVID-19 guidelines. Although some of our camp-wide programming may be adjusted, we promise the Shwayder traditions and activities you have grown to love will still be integrated into camp.

No doubt there will be new rules, but our camp spirit will soar.

Shabbat is a special time at Shwayder where we gather to reflect and celebrate our time together. Beginning with an outdoor service led by our campers, we sing and dance under the star-filled sky. It’s a chance for all of us to embrace the beauty and spirit of Judaism and build community.

Our facilities blend outdoor living with modern amenities. New cabins provide comfort and a quiet space for campers. Our state-ofthe-art recreation center and athletic field include sports courts, a climbing wall, and room for other activities. An arts center offers a creative outlet for campers and our new barn is the ideal setting for horseback riding.

leading the way Shwayder Camp staff hail from around the world. With diverse backgrounds and years of camp experience, our staff will ensure that campers are safe, happy and having the best summer ever. Our Directors are dedicated to creating a feeling of community at Shwayder. They build campers’ confidence and maintain a balanced lifestyle throughout the summer where campers can flourish and develop long-lasting relationships.

Temple Emanuel clergy also play a large role at Shwayder Camp by teaching Jewish values through activities and celebrations.

FOUNDATION of FUN We are committed to ensuring that every camper who wants to attend Shwayder Camp is able to, regardless of financial ability. Financial aid is available on request and by completion of a confidential information form. For first time campers, One Happy Camper grants are available at onehappycamper.org.

Shwayder offers a 10% discount for each additional sibling and for each additional session.

Our longer sessions allow campers to relax, unwind and enjoy our mountain retreat. There are more opportunities for campers to spend time with their friends, and our staff has the chance to plan more in-depth programming. Three weeks is the perfect way for campers to enjoy more activities and customize their experience.

two weeks We offer two options for our two week sessions. The first session 1A is an opportunity for campers in grades 2-6 to enjoy Shwayder for a shorter time while participating in all the camp activities. Session 3 is our traditional two week session for all ages.

enrollment one week We know sleep away camp is a big deal and we want our youngest campers to feel as comfortable as possible. That’s why we offer a one-week program designed to help kids adjust to Shwayder and experience camp life. Campers will have the chance to participate in all of our activities and celebrate Shabbat with our community.

Temple Emanuel Member

SIT Program Entering 11th grade

Since our Last Year Daleds were not able to spend summer at camp in 2020, we are going to modify our SIT program for 2021. In lieu of a full summer program, incoming 11th graders can be SIT’s in the session that they would normally have attended as campers. Get the same training experience with the opportunity to enjoy all the Shwayder activities one last time.
