Whether you wait until our taster week in July, or join us for a mini-session during the year, there are multiple opportunities for you to come in and try the course you have applied for.We know that the first term of college is often the hardest, that’s why we’ll continue to support your transition throughout the first term.

Enrolment takes place in the last week of August. Once you have received your GCSE results, you can enrol with us and formally become a SHC student. Before you start lessons with us in September, you will attend induction sessions to help you familiarise yourself with the college and the staff. Once we’ve received your application, we will contact you to arrange an interview where you can discuss your course choices and, hopefully, receive a conditional offer.

Pastoral & Tutorial Support

You will be assigned a tutor during induction, who should be the first point of contact if you have any issues. They will assist you with any problems to ensure you can focus on your studies. However, if you feel like you want to speak to somebody else, we have a large pastoral care team who are in place to prioritise your personal wellbeing. We’re here to support you in any way we can. If you feel like you need somebody to talk to or just to listen, you can access our counselling services. Please speak to your tutor or visit the student centre and ask for the Counsellor. This is a confidential service so you can trust that we will be discrete with your information. If you need extra help with your learning, staff from our Inclusive Learning Team will work closely with you to assess your learning needs, agree with you how to meet them and, with your permission, pass this information on to staff who can provide you with the support you need. We can provide financial support to eligible students via the bursary scheme. SENSORY ROOM

The sensory room is in place to help students not only broaden their awareness of their senses, but to also provide them with an area to relax when they feel stressed. This room is available to students throughout the day, if they need to take a moment out of lessons or during a break.

T-Levels are a brand new qualification designed to give you a head start towards the future you want. They follow GCSEs and are equivalent to 3 A-Levels. The 2-year T-Level qualification brings classroom and work placement together on a course designed with employers and businesses. You’ll spend 80% of your time in the classroom and 20% on a 45-day placement to give you the skills and knowledge employers a re looking for. Your T-Level will help you to step straight into your chosen career, an apprenticeship or a degree. ENGINEERING, MANUFACTURING, PROCESSING & CONTROL 10

This course will teach students a broad range of topics relevant to the sector; encompassing the essential mathematics, commercial and business knowledge required - and how these influence design processes and products.

Students will develop an understanding of how materials, conditions and context influence design processes and products, and use essential mathematics, commercial and business skills for creative problem solving.

DIGITAL PRODUCTION, DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT

All students will develop an understanding of the education and childcare sector from ages 0-19, learning how to support children and young people's education. This course will cover safeguarding, health & safety and wellbeing- as well as a range of other childcare topics.

EDUCATION & CHILDCARE

Students will learn about a range of topics; human anatomy and physiology, diseases and disorders, genomics and medical physics. This course will teach students how to provide person-centered care, infection prevention and good scientific practices.

This course gives students the skills to design, implement and test software while working collaboratively in a digital team. Students will also develop an understanding of how digital technologies such as AI, AR & 3D printing impact businesses.

Twist Fizz is on a mission to grow tennis into the most popular sport in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. They provide tennis activities that are inclusive, social and easy to access. Teaching the inexperienced and strengthening the professional, their sessions are fun and full of energy. The club has five London Volleyball League teams: two mens, two ladies and one mixed team in the Foundation League. We work in partnership with five local sports academies to provide training and support to our students. We have places available in Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Rugby, and Football - you don't need to be a Sports student to join, all students are welcome! Check out our website for more information.

LEVEL 7 FOOTBALL ACADEMY

Our Basketball Education Academy provides students with the opportunity to be a part of a full-time basketball program, which is is operated by Dynamic Coaching. This is a performance-based programme that aims to push the players into semiprofessional basketball. This basketball academy has programmes for both girls and boys.

The rugby programme is run by The Roebucks Academy. This is a performance-based programme that will take place at the training base in Eltham, as well as some sessions on site here at SHC.

At SHC, we offer students who have not yet achieved their 5 9-4 grades the opportunity to join the GCSE Study Programme. This course is designed to enable them to eventually progress onto A-Levels or a Level 3 course. Placement onto this course is subject to a successful interview, where a member of our admissions team will assess suitability for the course.

The GCSE Transitional Year for Recent Arrivals This course is for recent arrivals to the country who wish to obtain UK recognised qualifications. Students aiming for this course should have studied to a similar level abroad, and should have equivalent foreign qualifications. Our GCSE programmes are ideal for those looking to progress on to study A-Levels.

We're very proud of all that our staff and students achieve together at Shooters Hill Sixth Form College, here are some of our most recent success stories.Oneofour former students, Faye Olszowka, has gone on to become a very successful and talented athlete after leaving Shooters Hill Sixth Form College. In February 2022, Faye competed in the Muller Grand Prix in Birmingham, placing second in the 60m indoor track race. We look forward to seeing what Faye does next in her athletic Thiscareer!year, two of our A-Level STEM students been accepted into the coveted Nuffield Research Summer Placement programme. Out of 2000 applicants, our students Omo and Migle were selected to join the programme, to study Zoology and Future Ready Pathways . This is a great opportunity four our students, and we're incredible proud of this fantastic achievement! Following a recent nomination, one of our Physics teachers Dr Ram Ramanan has won a STEM Learning Teaching Award in the Excellence in STEM Teaching. Dr. Ram will be attending both the regional and national awards events to mark this achievement and provide an opportunity to celebrate with all of the other inspiring winners. Congratulations Dr Ram!

Every year we host an event in our very own City View Restaurant to thank our work-placement mentors for all the work they do to support our learners. This year was an exceptional event, which consisted of several former SHC students who are now WEX mentors. This event also gives next year's NVQ 3 students the opportunity to have interviews with their potential work placements.

Our very own Debbie Cooney has recently been presented with a Civic Recognition Award by the Mayor of Bexley Council, in recognition of her 27 years in service to the Scouts Association. This is just one of the many excellent examples of our staff making a positive contribution to the local community, and we're incredibly proud of Debbie's fantastic achievement!Stacystudied with us under our Catering programme, and has gone on to become a great success in the industry. Stacy previously worked with Michelin star chef Andrew McLeish as a sous chef, and is now Head Chef at Threadneedles Hotel. Here are some of the projects we're currently working on, and are excited to bring to you in 2023! We will be installing a new, sustainable 4G woven football pitch in the summer of 2022, available for all students to use during classes, enrichments or break times. Our new Health & Social Care building will be opening in October 2023, with a host of great new facilities for our students. By summer 2022, we'll have installed an outdoor gym on site for our students to use, with a range of equipment available. Follow our progress and check any updates on our website! www.shc.ac.uk
