Major planning and design are divided into urban and rural but there are some towns that are based on a very different module. One of those varying modules is a temple town, i.e. a town whose at least 80% population is financially dependent on the temple tourism. Trimbakeshwar, a very popular temple town in India hosts thousands of people who come to not only the temple but also to perform many other religious rituals. Due to its geography where the town is encircled by mountains, this zone doesn't have much viable land for agriculture leaving the residents to earn their major income from pilgrims.
This research covers the basis that quality any town as a temple town, its peculiar features followed by identification of its unique problems that can be resolved by better urban planning and design. This was my design dissertation for my Bachelors in Architecture at Sir JJ College of Architecture and my first ever first-hand research work. Please pardon the sloppy page numbering and edting skills.
