“ಆಚರಣೆ”(pronounced as Aa-cha-ra-ne) means celebration in Kannada. But what does celebration mean? Is it something that happens rarely and on a grand scale? Does it happen every day and in every activity, we perform? Hampanakatte is a melting pot of different activities and functions. But most of them are not so accessible and are cramped into a corner.
The main objective of the intervention is to make all these activities and spaces like market, park, bus stand and celebrate them. The intervention is a modern adaption of the essence of the origin of Hampanakatte. The origin of the “Katte” began with the tourists taking shade under a tree generating an event of sitting down. When many people celebrate this event in the space, it leads to several other activities like interaction, trade and such others. Acharane is a take on this idea of generating different events through small gestures like providing shade and seating. This will surround and connect all the spaces in Hampanakatte.
