Like it or not, social media has

evolved the way we live our life.

With some arguing it makes us less social, others may never of connected with friends if it wasn’t for these platforms.

Since Facebook was launched on February 4, 2004, by Mark Zuckerberg, people have used it for connecting with friends, dating, running online businesses, and finding long lost family.

Then, in October 2010, Instagram was launched. The free mobile app, which allows subscribers to use pretty filters to post pictures, was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. The platform now has over 300 million users.

The idea of people making a genuine living out of social media may be hard for you to believe, but not only are people leaving their 9 to 5 jobs to sell and network online, men and women are also making money from posting promotional images on social media everyday.

Shropshire girl, Jodie May Evans, is amongst many fashionistas who make money from posting images of herself promoting products.

The 23-year-old, from Broseley, fills us in on being ‘Insta-famous’.

“I posted my first ever picture on Instagram in February 2013, I never thought I would have such an impact on people and gain so many followers.”

Jodie currently has 11.6k ‘Instagramers’ following her account.

“I post at least one picture a day and it takes at least an hour to get the perfect picture. I always make sure I use the best lighting and my good angles. If I am promoting an item, I have to make sure they are fully-visible.” Said Jodie.

Instagram connects people by using hashtags and tags. A popular hashtag is #ootd (outfit of the day), people will search this word and will see all the images posted using the hashtag.

Jodie explains how people can make money from the app: “I charge £35 for a post at the moment and as my following grows, my posts will be worth more.

“I know girls who charge up to £100£150 a post because they have 100k or more followers.”

With all the likes and positive comments comes negative comments too. Jodie told us how she deals with nasty comments.

“When I get negative comments, I don’t allow them to upset me. I used to reply but now I just simply ignore them.

Positivity is key in life, so I don’t allow negative comments to control my mood, I just rise above it.”

And for all the girls and guys wanting to get in to the whole Instagram world, Jodie advises: “It’s a whole different world but my advice is, post everyday to gain more followers and most importantly, hashtag everything and anything.

“If you are wearing brands, tag their accounts too. This gets your post out there so more people can reach your profile.

“Your profile needs to be set to open on the privacy settings so people can see your posts.”

Jodie is using her insta-success to start her own vlog (a video log).

“I want to start vlogging so people can get to know me on a more personal level and I can vlog about all of the frequent questions I get asked.”

Jodie thinks it’s down to her unusual style and tattoos that she gains so many people follow her.

Social media is taking over the world of advertising and companies know they can get their product out there faster than ever before.

Next time you see an Instagram post with a product being promoted, you will know that the profile holder will be getting paid for it.

# SPRING FASHION Fashion Editor, Robyn Moore, took to Bridgnorth last month, to style our Shropshire-Socialite-Model with a Spring-Ready look.

Robyn, said: “The town is full of fabulous boutiques and salons, you can always find outfits for your day-to-day life or special events.

“With a strong selection of hair and beauty salons, there is no excuse for bad hair or out-of-shape eyebrows.

“Spring 2017 is all about the embroidery, floral, ruffles, stripes and tied-up-garments.

“It wasn’t hard to find on-trend pieces in the town and there are plenty of good-quality and affordable, wardrobe classics.”

This month, I have dedicated my pages to reminding you of the beauty basics. The ones that you may overlook sometimes but they are the key to beautiful and healthy skin.

HYDRATION

Eat a healthy diet, “we are what we eat” is not just a made up saying!

We should all know now about hidden sugar content in the produce we purchase, read the labels, the information is a legal requirement.

Step up the fluid intake (not prosecco), water and juices.

The golden rule is 6 – 8 glasses per day with the emphasis being on water. Rehydrated system = rehydrated skin, bye bye toxins, hello immediate improvement in skin moisture levels and brighter looking skin.

Successful hydration is the cheapest and best beauty treatment you can give yourself.

“6 - 8 GLASSES A DAY” REGIME

It doesn’t need to be expensive so long as you take your time. I recommend the new(ish) Micellar water instead of toner, excellent brands at a very reasonable cost are, L’Oreal and Garnier. If you haven’t tried them already you will be amazed at their cleansing properties.

The skin stimulator “Mesovytal” claims to boost healthy circulation and collagen production and get rid of dead skin leaving it looking healthy and totally moisturised.

After all those dark nights and cold temperatures, spring is finally on its way!

The longer days make it the perfect opportunity to get fit, so shake off that winter wobble or invest in a new healthier you with my top tips.

The first step to achieving the new, healthier you, is defining and setting your own personal fitness goals. Take the time to figure out what you want, when you want it and how you are going to achieve it.

Giving yourself a direction and a clear plan of action, this will prevent you from giving up.

REMEMBER - Stay motivated and energised by refuelling your body and staying hydrated during and after your workout.

- Get enough sleep, so your body and energy levels recover.

- Try and keep a healthy diet with low sugar and lots of protein.

- Remember to stretch before and after your workout aiding your mobility, introducing the body properly to exercise.

- Don’t over train, take rest days, and allow your body to recover.

My favourite form of cardio is skipping, it’s not how often you move it’s how you move, and Skips, hops and jumps are a great form of training and fat burning. No gym needed, just purchase a skipping rope and slowly build up your routine. Start, with 1 minute on and 1 minute rest and repeat for 20 minutes.

Spring in to action with the latest-active-wear-fashion. Think, bright colours and patterns. This is my favourite outfit available from your high-street shops. Don’t forget a water bottle to keep you hydrated during your workout.

FASHION WITH KIRSTIE

Need to know where to start on getting your wardrobe Spring-Ready? Our Fashion Guru, Kirstie Hurst-Knight, tells us how.

Talking to a lot of my customers, here at Boutique No.7, spring is often the season you pull apart your wardrobes and see what you have and what you’re missing.

My advice is, go shopping with a “wish list” in hand. As you look through the rails, rather than panic buying something, which we have all made the mistake in doing, you will buy a garment you will wear.

I always rotate my wardrobe seasonally, because it helps me see what I have. It also lets me appreciate my clothes and fall in love with them again, especially all of my vintage pieces from The Looking Glass, Bridgnorth.

We are getting excited in Boutique No.7, about the new season arrivals. We are seeing, more colour and patterns arrive and the shop is visually more exciting So, what can you expect to see in the boutique for Spring/Summer 17?

An effective and repetitive beauty regime is important for any modern-man.

EXFOLIATE

It is important for you to exfoliate your body and face to avoid ingrown hairs, dry patches, and dull skin. You should exfoliate one to three times a week.

Use an exfoliating product and apply it in circular motions, working against the direction of your hair. This will break the skin to prevent trapped hairs. The method will also remove dead skin cells to reveal a brighter looking appearance.

CLEANSE

You don’t need to exfoliate every day, but you do need to cleanse. Use a face cleanser for your skin needs. If your skin is oily, then choose a products that is specifically designed for oily skin.

Cleanse your skin morning and night to prevent dirt building up in your pores.

MOISTURISE

Your skin goes through a lot, put the moisture back in to your face and body every other day. If your skin is very dry then apply a moisturiser, every night before bed.

If your skin is prone to break-outs, then choose a moisturiser with tea tree or witch hazel in.

SHAVE

Shaving foam creates air pockets when applied to the skin which will lead to parts of your face being dry shaved. This will leave you with a rash or feeling sore in certain areas. Use a shaving oil or cream to ensure you have a lubricated surface to glide your razor over.

Always apply a post-shave cream to cool and calm your skin.

If you made yourself a resolution to try something new or improve your creative skills this year, or if you’ve got a spring in your step now the days are getting longer, then it might be time to try a French Grey Tales workshop!

HAIR DUSTING

Hi Darlings, I’m John, a senior hair stylist and I’m passionate about hair.

My aim in life is to make my clients happy about their hair and the way they look.

Style is of course very important but also the condition of the hair is of equal importance, it’s no good going for the style of your choice with hair that is out of condition and lac lustre.

If you do not treat your hair before styling or colouring etc, you will not get the result you are hoping for.

So, what’s the best way of conditioning your hair? Well it’s not magic, it’s not out of a bottle, and it’s been around for ages, it’s called “Hair Dusting”.

“What is it and why hasn’t my hair stylist being offering it to me.”

I hear you thinking. The answer “It’s very time consuming” but the amazing thing is, you don’t have to lose loads of length to obtain healthy looking hair.

It works in a similar way to de fuzzing a sweater but like everything else you need to be a little choosy about who you let loose on your prized locks, use someone who is competent in the procedure (not all stylist are).

So what causes “dead fuzzy hair”? The culprits are the weather, colouring (using cheap dyes), hot hair instruments (straighteners, dryers etc), bad haircuts but most of the time the age of the hair has a lot to do with it.

Hair dusting as I have said has been around for ever and it’s more of a hair grooming technique that requires each strand of hair to be snipped individually at the very bottom but beware of the novices, it is quite time consuming and needs to be carried out by someone who is professional in the technique but totally worth it.

When I met beautician, Kirsty, she gave me a full consultation and really got to know my skin. She taught me the areas of my facial regime which are not working and told me exactly what I need to be doing.

After studying my skin and needs, I was given the ‘Brightening and Resurfacing Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Facial’ by ELEMIS. The one hour treatment is £53 and is designed for ageing, acne, scarring and uneven skin tone.

The treatment made my skin feel so refreshed and clean. I wasn’t expecting to see a difference in my skin straight away but I was proven wrong. My skin looked hydrated and smooth with a youthful glow.

It didn’t concern me about applying make-up after because my skin looked beautiful, I stayed make-up free for the whole day.

Since the facial, I have been using the facial regime I was recommended and my skin has been completely different. My skin has stayed looking hydrated and it has a healthy glow.

Get your pedicure booked, ladies. #BacklessShoes Yes, the backpack is very much back. Phew! I was starting to get over having a sore arm from carrying my heavy handbag around all day.
