TRIPLE GLAZED GLASS PANELS

Triple glazing in norweigan reduce heat loss and increase the temperature of the inside panes. In general, triple-glazed windows improve comfort, reduce condensation and minimize noise.

MEZZANINE

CONCRETE FLOOR SLAB WITH INTERIOR WOODEN CLADDING

It is natural and ancestral material, that has been in use for a long time ,along with being timeless, its is also a renewable and recyclable material. natural wood adapts and changes over time, creaks and emits sounds that will be part of the soundtrack of your life, smells of nature and adapts to the climate and the passage of time.

ENTRANCE

PRECAST CONCRETE CANTILEVERED STAIRCASE

The precast staircase eliminates the need for complicated formwork and propping of the casted structure if made cast-in-situ.

Since both steel and the Hverfjall area originated as a result of intense heat and pressure that moulded them into reality , steel also has an equally strong philosophical connection with the design as it does with stability.

WOODEN FRAMED WALLS

Wooden partition walls are light, easy to install, renewable, and create a warm ambience fit for a green house and restaurant area.

CONCRETE FLOOR SLAB WITH TRENCH FILL FOUNDATION

A sturdy concrete slab is used for flooring along with a trench fill foundation which minimizes the excavation required without compromising the load bearing capacity generally done for the hard rock bed.

Sultangarhi artists village

Vasant Kunj, Delhi

Thesis Project

The Sultangarhi Artist village seeks to establish a vibrant artist village adjacent to the historic Sultangarhi Garhi Tomb. This unique amalgamation of culture, history, and creativity aims to provide a sanctuary for artists, foster artistic practices, and enrich the cultural landscape of the region. The project is designed to seamlessly integrate the existing historical context with modern artistic pursuits, creating a harmonious blend of the past and the present.

02

Site area = 46,050 sqm

Site Plan

As one enters the site, a public street connecting activities such as museums, exhibitions, workshops, cafes, etc. takes them to the Sultangarhi Tomb. This is the space that typically forms the boundary between public and private spaces, used by people that are entering or exiting buildings.

The setting and positioning of urban furniture are critical when it comes to comfort and well-bing in urban spaces.

The variation presented by building facades, multiple entrances and storefrontwindows make walking more enjoyable.

The vegetation and type of paving in seating areas, help turn sidewalks into spaces for social interaction, adding more life.

Walkability

The walkable landscape design enhance the vitality at street scale. In the urban landscape design projects specific, the role of walkable environment is significant in enhancing social interaction, strengthening social coherence.

The studios, workshops and artists residences are have their own green spaces away from the public street as they need more privacy and silence.

Public greens

Frontage zones between buildings and the street are spaces with potential to host myriad activities that link indoor functions with life out in the street.

The steet opens to a large landscaped garden and thus providing an expansive view of the green landscaped and the tomb.

The Sultan Ghari’s tomb lies about 8 km southwest of the Qutub, near Mahipalpur (originally known as malkapur). It was built in 1231 by Sultan Iltutmish over the remains of his eldest son and heir-apparent, prince Nasiru’d-Din Mahmud.

Laid out within a walled enclosure with bastions on corners, which impart it the look of a fortress, its octagonal grave-chamber lies underground, as the level around it was raised by a rubble-packing. The ceiling rests on columns raised with two pillars each robbed from an earlier Hindu shrine; carved lintels from another were found embedded in the thick lime-concrete roof. Other pieces were used in the ceilings of the prayer-chamber and bastions and the pillars re-utilised in the verandahs, originally used as a madrasa, after chipping the decoration off them. The tomb was repaired later by Firoz Shah Tughluq.

The Tomb SULTANGARHI ARTISTS VILLAGE

The existing remains at Sultän Ghäri belong to three phases: (I) *Turkish’ (1191-1290), (2) Tughlaq (1320-1414), and (3) late Moghul (late seventeenth and eighteenth centuries).

The materials are marble, Red sandstone and well burnt bricks. Lime-mortar has been generally used, but mud-mortar is employed in some of the houses. The walls were rendered with plaster, patches of which still adhere.to the walls here and there.

The ceramics and sculpting common studios are located next to the photography studios facing the Tomb and have a private green space that acts as splillover space for artists.

The studios have been designed with consideration to climate. ventilation and proper lighting . The double height spaces, larger north windows and horizontal shading used in the south facade facilitates this.

Work spaces have spacious enough to work on one or one or more projects at a time. Adequate space is provided so that that artist can view their work from a distance.

The studios are connected on the 1st floor level so that artists for different studios can interact with each other. The open corridor and terrace act as spill over spaces for the artits.

On the 2nd floor are the induvidual painting studios having vaulted roof and north light to provide uniform light that does not cast shadow making it easier to paint. These studios open up to a stepped terrace viewing the Tomb.

The central double height shared spaces where artists can eat, meet and collaborate provides a sense of community. Artists also need to be able to work in peace and quiet, so the artist residences have private studios or workrooms where they can live and work. These have flexible layouts that can be easily reconfigured according to the needs. On the first floor there is common sitting area which can be an extension to their studios allowing them to work outdoors as well.

The facade is divided into a series of arches, which provide the viewer a glimpse of the display area made as one walks through the ramp that provides the clearer view of the tomb , they enter a shaded area where the works of all photographers are displayed through the glass display section which also allows light into the building , making it feel spacious .

The Museum consists of permanant exhibition spaces and an auditorium. The Double- height spaces for displaying large paintings and sculptures, provide a sense of grandeur and allow visitors to appreciate the artwork from different angles. The sculpture gallery is arranged around the spiral, and the architecture of the building creates a sense of movement and dynamism.

Photography Museum

The pottery and sculpting workshops have connections between them viewing the mosque that act as spaces for interaction and rest. On the other side is another green space , more private in nature where they can interact , rest and ideate.

The sawtooth roof design helps to provide good lighting in the interior. The design of this type of roof is intended to produce positive effects (such as light and warmth) in the building from ‘daylighting’ due to its design giving sunlight to the building, and reducing problems such as overheating in the industrial unit.

Architecture Project

Courtyad house : A home; to relax, rejuvenate and make memories.

The Navsari Residence for a Family of four , Mr Mithun Desai , his wife and their two daughters.

The house is designed in a way that it surrenders to the natural environment with multilayers of green spaces : a ceniral courtyard, landscape on the periphery of the house, smaller courts in the semi private and private areas, terrace gardens and balconies. The central courtyard will act as a binding element which not only connects all the spaces on the ground floor but also with all the rooms on the upper floors overlooking the courtyard. The structural volumes will be unified by smaller courts and patios and terrace gardens on the upper floors.

The house is divided into public, semi public, semi private and private areas interconnected with corridors and patios opening out to the central courtyard, smaller courts and terrace gardens
