ORTLES

TEMPORARY SOCIAL RESIDENCE IN MILAN, ITALY

Architectural Design Studio Politecnico di Milano I 2018 Professors: Gennaro Postiglione I Peter Beard I Stefania Sabatinelli Casa dell’ Accoglienza Enzo Jannaci is a social housing located on Viale Ortles. It provides temporary shelter for adults in difficulty, or severe need. It hosts people from various backgrounds aged between 18 to 65. They are allowed to stay here in the absence of possible accommodation anywhere else in the city. The institution also takes care of the cleaning and the maintainance of the space and furthermore provides food for the dwellers. This project aims at accommodating single individuals. It is mainly for the people who have found a job and have a pay. These are the people who would want a better living condition compared to that of a dormitory, but haven’t yet moved out of the accommodation. These individuals can be either Italians or from any foreign country. This place is a step forward for them towards a better living condition by giving them more independence, comfort and privacy. For living here they are required to pay some amount of money. This area will be hosting single men and women each with their own room with a private bathroom. The rooms are combined in three aggregations of four and five in number, providing accomodation for 13 people. Within the aggregation residents share some common living areas. The interaction among these people can inspire them to develop as independent individuals and to grow towards their goal and begin to stand on their own feet.
