For Dana Hokana to stand a stallion it must be a horse that not only holds her heart, but holds her standards of greatness. To understand why LEGEND (Dimensions Got Style) has been promoted to stand to the public, we must look at the history of his bloodlines.

Dana spent years searching for her

broke the mold in Western Pleasure with a woman training and showing a stallion to the biggest wins. He was so soft, fluid and cadenced and even after he retired from showing his influence continued for decades in the Hokana program through his amazing offspring. Dimensions lived his life with Dana breeding mares up until he

Both of these great horses have been prominent influences in Hokana Performance Horses breeding program. Osa gave Dana a great mare by Zipped My Zipper, Shes A Golden Zippo. The 16 hand mare became one of the foundational broodmares for Dana. She lived until 27 years old staying sound up until the end. Teddy was a phenomenal producer for Dana with her foals earning major wins including World and Reserve World Championships. With 11 foals, she and Dimensions made nine palominos. Many of the resulting foals were also blessed with APHA markings and crop out papers and some had quadruple registration with AQHA/APHA/PtHA/ PHBA.

Fast forward to 2023 and the future of Dana Hokana Performance Horses, LEGEND aka Dimensions Got Style. He is the breathtaking palomino stallion that has everyone talking.

Top Left; Dam Shes A Golden Zippo. Top Right; Sire Invested Dimensions. Bottom Right; Grand dam, Osa Gold.

When Invested Dimensions passed last spring, Dana decided to share the secret weapon that was in her barn. Dana knew the stallion was great from birth. He held the proven bloodlines of Invested Dimensions and

Shes A Golden Zippo. He possessed exceptional conformation, stunning beauty and effortless movement. Her plans to show him in his early years were dashed by an injury, but Dana knew he was worth waiting on.

LEGEND’s training continued on and off over the years and as Dana expected his talent, mind and movement are exceptional. “He has incredible hock, an incredible front leg, he is soft over the ground and slow legged. He is beauty in motion to watch!” exclaimed Dana.

14 Color Breed 2023 SHOW HORSE TODAY
“Dimensions Got Style is one of the most natural movers I have ever ridden. You ought to feel his lope!”

The stallion also has an exceptional mind which is paramount for Dana as she breeds her prospects. “When Legend enters the arena, he has a charisma and magnificence that draws everyone to him. He not only has the look, he has the mind. He is the most brilliant horse I have trained. That might sound funny to some, but he wants to learn! He wants to be a good horse!”

“Every time we step in to the arena to work, he is always ready to do his job with a happy and willing attitude and heart. Speaking of heart, he has a big one, He loves to love. You can walk up

to him and just love on him, and he enjoys every moment of it.”

But being gorgeous colored, well bred, talented and pretty isn’t enough in Dana’s mind to be a breeding horse. He had to have that something extra to pass along and improve the breed.

“He loves to love. You can walk up to him and just love on him, and he enjoys every moment of it.”

“He is not only extremely handsome, structurally correct, great minded, a great loper and jogger. He is the most pleasant horse to be around. There is no ‘studdiness’ to him. We can go from collecting him to bringing him down into the arena with mares that are in heat riding around him and he won’t look at them or make a peep. He understands the assignment. He knows his job, he can adapt from one to the next with such ease” Dana shared.

“I have ridden and been around some of the top stallions in the industry that anyone and everyone knows, and Legend is one to talk about. He’s

smart! But so was his daddy, Invested Dimension. So it only makes sense. That gentle, kind and brilliant mind, they pass it on. And that isn’t even all! He is the full package and on top of it all, he is a palomino!”

“He not only has the look, he has the mind. He is the most brilliant horse I have trained.”

Dimensions Got Style....LEGEND

Though LEGEND has not yet been shown due to that early injury, his talent is undeniable. Dana recently started changing leads on the stallion, and he may well be a future world champion western rider. “I have trained some great western riders, none hold a candle to the natural talent LEGEND is showing. Dimensions Got Style is one of the most natural movers I have ever ridden. You ought to feel his lope!”

After Invested Dimensions passed last year Dana decided to breed her beautiful palomino stallion to her great “A Dream Remembered” broodmare. That first foal will come this year. She is so confident in LEGEND’s ability to produce that she is crossing him on her own outstanding mares, including her world class pleasure and all around mares.

Last spring when Dimensions passed Dana for a moment thought the dream was over. Dimensions was the horse that built her ranch, gave her family much success and put Dana on the map. Those closest to her knew instantly, that he had also left her his legacy in LEGEND.

Dana has often said over the years that LEGEND is one of the best lopers she has ever ridden, and she has ridden many truly great ones.

“I believe strongly that his incredible genotype and phenotype will absolutely stamp his babies with the characteristics that all of us want” explained Dana.

“Kindness, beauty, soundness, good legs and feet. Gaits that are smooth as glass to sit. A trainable temperament and mind. The size and conformation needed to breed to a lot of different mares, and types of mares. He will produce world champion pleasure horses, trail horses, all-around horses, even ranch riding and working event horses making him the ultimate versatile stallion to breed to. He has a charisma that stops people everywhere he goes.”

When Dana decided to offer LEGEND to the public she completed his genetic testing, He is 6 panel N\N and e/e, A/A and N/Cr.

His 2023 limited book fee is $1,250. For more information you can follow LEGEND on Facebook.

GENETIC COLOR TESTING

Breeding for great color horses requires not only an understanding of bloodlines, phenotypes, nicks and conformation, but these days an advanced degree in understanding color genetics would be an asset.

Whether your goal is to breed a paint, appaloosa, palomino, buckskin, roan, dun or any other coat dilution, pattern or mutation knowing the characteristics and genetics is key to breeding.

Currently UC Davis has 18 tests for color genetics. Though many genes have sub variants as well. A complete color genetic panel can be ordered for $150. Etalon also offers APHA approved testing as well and has an APHA panel that includes 17 color as well as 17 health tests for $159.

Recently the American Paint Horse Association announced the discovery of an additional coat pattern W34 that causes the spotting or freckles in white markings. APHA’s genetic testing partner Etalon offers 30

different color and pattern test options including the new W34.

We have compiled this list of gene names to help you understand exactly what the many letters on the paperwork mean and how they can express themselves on your horse’s coat color.

38 Color Breed 2023 SHOW HORSE TODAY
“THESE DAYS AN ADVANCED DEGREE IN UNDERSTANDING COLOR GENETICS WOULD BE AN ASSET.”

GENE NAME VARIANT ALLELE(S)

HOW THE ALLELE EFFECTS COLOR

Agouti a The dominant allele (A) restricts black pigment to the points of the horse (mane, tail, lower legs and ear rims). The recessive allele (a) uniformly distributes black pigment over the entire body.

Red Factor e, ea The recessive alleles e and the rare ea produce red pigment (pheomelanin).

Cream Cr Dilutes red pigment (pheomelanin) to yellow pigment in single dose (e.g. palominos, buckskins, smoky blacks) and to pale cream in double dose (e.g. cremellos, perlinos, smoky cream).

Champagne Ch Dilutes hair pigment from black to brown and red to gold.

Dun nd1, nd2 The dominant allele (D) lightens the body color and dilutes both red and black pigment, leaving the head, lower legs, mane, and tail undiluted, and also produces primitive markings. Horses with nd1 (and without D) will not be dun dilute but may have primitive markings. nd2/nd2 horses will not be dun dilute and will not have primitive markings.

Pearl Prl Two doses on a chestnut background produce a pale, uniform apricot color of body hair, mane and tail. Skin is also pale. Interacts with cream dilution to produce pseudo-double cream dilute phenotypes including pale skin and blue/green eyes.

Color Breed 2023 39 SHOW HORSE TODAY

Silver Z Lightens black/brown pigment but has no effect on red/yellow pigment. The mane and tail are typically lightened to flaxen or silver gray color but may darken with age on some horses.

Mushroom Dilution Mu

Dilutes red pigment (pheomelanin) and is characterized by a distinctive sepia-toned body hair color, often accompanied by a flaxen mane and tail.

Leopard Complex LP White coat pattern characterized by variable patterning with or without pigmented spots known as leopard spots. Also characterized by mottled skin, stripped hooves, white sclera, and progressive loss of pigment in the coat with age (varnish roaning).

Appaloosa Pattern-1 PATN1

Modifier of leopard complex spotting (LP), controls the amount white in the coat. Horses with LP and PATN1 are typically born with a 60% or greater white spotting pattern.

Camarillo White CW Causes completely white coat, mane, and tail.

Dominant White W1-W34 W5, W10, and W22 cause white patterning. W20 may have a subtler effect on the amount of white expressed unless in combination with other dominant white alleles, in which case it may increase the amount of white patterning.

Gray G Causes a progressive depigmentation of the hair, often resulting in a color that is almost completely white, and can act on any base coat color.

40 Color Breed 2023 SHOW HORSE TODAY

Lethal White Overo

O Causes the frame overo pattern in heterozygotes and in homozygotes causes a disease characterized by a completely white coat and improper innervation to the gut, leading to death soon after birth.

Roan Rn Also known as classic roan, causes intermixed white and colored hairs on the body while the head, lower legs, mane, and tail remain colored.

Sabino 1 SB1 One copy causes white spotting pattern, usually on the legs, belly, and face, often with extensive

PUNNETT SQUARES

Now that you have a better understanding of your horse’s genetic test results, let’s move on to predicting foal coat colors. A Punnett square is a grid system that can be set up and used to predict the possible outcomes that may result from the mating process between two individuals, when their genotypes are known.

The example is a very simplified Punnett square, but if you know the basics of its use you can predict the possible foal color outcomes. Additional genetic traits can be added, expanding the square.

Each cell within the square is representative of one possible genotypic outcome for any offspring. A Punnett square can be utilized to calculate the potential colors of a breeding cross. For example here is a square showing a chestnut to palomino mare.

This technique can also be used to calculate breeding risks with carriers of any known genetic health issues, as long as you are cognizant of recessive and dominant genes, it provides an excellent visual for potential outcomes.

While pulling samples may seem like a hassle, the door to knowledge that has been unlocked for equine breeders with these testing options is truly a game changer. With knowledge comes power and with power comes responsibility. Breeders have more information available today than ever before, to allow them to not only design their dream foal cross, but to better predict the future health, color and even sex of the foal.

Building a Confident Rider

Tackling the Mental Obstacles Between You and Your Goals

Part One: Overcoming Fear - Learn to Have Faith in Yourself

Confidence. What an important word! The definition of confidence is “a feeling or belief that you can do something well or succeed at something.”

Confidence is something that everyone desires, but many people only long for. Many people have confidence in some arenas of their life but not in others. Other people feel that you either have confidence or you don’t. Others feel that if they would just lose twenty pounds, or if they were younger or older or taller or shorter, then they could become confident. Many people hold the belief that if they would only look a certain way, then they would have confidence. However, the opposite is usually the truth. Confidence starts on the inside, and confidence can be acquired and learned.

My desire is to help you to realize, “You can do it too!” I also want to help you to uncover and transform your inner hindrances, as well as transform your riding skills, and to teach you to transform your horse so that you may have the success that you desire. In this article we are going to step into the mental arena. The arena of your thoughts and emotions. I believe that the three biggest factors that contribute to a lack of confidence are:

1. Fear

2. Lack of faith in yourself and your own negative self talk

3. Preconceived ideas of what a person should look or be like

I want to help you to become confident in the you that you are, in the body that you have, right where you are today!

Lets get started!

Fear…

Fear of what you look like.

Fear of what people think of you.

Fear of what people may be saying.

Fear of rejection.

Fear has always been the greatest enemy of success. More people are held back by fears than by any other factor. Fear is a powerful emotion.

Fear is such a strong emotion that it can override everything we know to be true and can stop us from moving toward our goals and dreams in life. Fear left unchecked can ruin people’s lives. Many people don’t realize they are yielding to fear as they use words like “nervous” or “anxious” or “stressed out” or “timid” or “shy” to describe their

82 December/January 2023

feelings. When really, the root of all of these feelings is fear!

Many, many people have allowed low levels of fear in their life for so long, they have become accustomed to the feeling of it. They don’t even realize they are living with fear.

Fear of failure is a common fear. Fear of failure is what holds people in their comfort zone. It is what makes people avoid risks and live life playing it safe, and often people look back at their life and wish they would have done some of the things they really wanted to do. We fear showing in that big event because we might fail, but by giving into our fears we have already failed.

I want to give you some life changing tips to help you to overcome your fear and learn to have faith in yourself…

1. Reframe your definition of failure

Do you know that failing is a part of achieving success? Failure is an essential part of becoming a success. One important secret to eliminating fear of failure is to realize that when you fail its really only feedback. In showing or competing with horses in life, it’s often feedback from a person or group of people. It’s today’s feedback, not necessarily tomorrow’s and definitely not the feedback of forever. Embrace

the learning experience of it. In reality, this type of learning experience is often worth so much. We pay high prices for knowledge and that’s valuable. But the learning experiences of success and failure are also an important piece of knowledge.

2. Learn to bounce back quickly from your failures

How quickly we bounce back is greatly related to how we looked at our failures. When you had a bad result in the show arena, how did you perceive that? Change your perspective of it; laugh at it. If you aren’t happy with yourself, forgive yourself. Allow yourself to not be perfect. Be grateful for the learning experience.

3. Change your self talk

Do you know you can be your own worst enemy or your own best friend? Are you your own coach? How you talk to yourself about failures, imperfections in yourself, your abilities, your looks, will determine your outcome. Your thoughts and self talk will determine your destiny.

Do you know your thoughts precede your feelings?

Try it now. Take a moment and picture the most rewarding experience between you and your horse that you

Color Breed 2023 83 SHOW HORSE TODAY

have ever had.

Revisit it in your mind.

Now, how do you feel? Excited? Hopeful? Happy?

You are experiencing feelings because of your thoughts.

Now take a moment and revisit a really upsetting experience with your horse.

How do you feel? Hopeless? Embarrassed? Afraid?

What are the feelings associated with that failure?

You can change or help those negative feelings by telling yourself something

different about the experience. Tell yourself what you learned. Speak positively to yourself about it. Look for something positive in the experience. Spend some time using positive imagery. See yourself doing what you are afraid of doing confidently and powerfully. See yourself looking, acting and being how you want to be. See the end result as positive and good! Don’t stay in the negative experience. Can you imagine if you stayed and lived with those feelings that the negative imagery had developed? You would alter your choices. You would probably do whatever it took to play it safe. But discipline yourself to say something positive to yourself. Make your self talk be positive coaching. You are coaching

yourself all the time, whether you realize it or not! Focus on your victories! Stay excited about the good and stay out of the bad.

4. Face your fears courageously

Every person has felt fear at one time or another. All of us have to deal with it. For some people the fear can be motivating, and for others, it’s crippling. How you view it and how you see yourself in the situation is key! See yourself as above it, not beneath it. View that fearful situation from a position of power and use words to describe it that will empower you.

5. Develop faith in yourself

The definition of faith is: Trust or confidence in someone or something.

Faith in yourself is self confidence!

Work on believing in yourself. Remind yourself of your accomplishments, not your failures. Spend time meditating on some of your greatest victories. In life, or in the show arena! Be your own best friend, as well as your own personal coach. Treat yourself well. Encourage yourself to victory. Stir yourself up!

6. Identify where your faith is

A fascinating thing about fears is that if you face them courageously, they diminish. On the other hand, if you let fears back you up they will grow bigger and more powerful. One important key to overcoming fears is to face them quickly and courageously. If possible, don’t give yourself time to get afraid.

Push yourself, make yourself do what you fear and you will grow stronger and stronger.

The more you push through and face what you are afraid of the faster you will no longer be afraid of what you feared.

It takes a level of faith to even ride a horse. Faith in the horse, faith in yourself, and even more faith to show and compete.

Become very mindful about your thoughts!

What do you actually have faith in? Do you have faith in something good happening or something bad happening? When you anticipate something bad happening, that is fear.

Fear is actually faith in the wrong thing happening!

But you can choose! You can choose where to put your thoughts, and where to put your faith. Put your faith in yourself!

Color Breed 2023 85 SHOW HORSE TODAY

I want to give you three important tips that will help you to develop your confidence and acquire more faith in yourself…

1. Perfect your posture

People often carry themselves exactly how they feel inside. In addition, how you carry yourself communicates a lot to other people, as well as your horse, about how you feel about yourself. Keep your chin up, shoulders back, and back straight. Walk with confidence

and purpose! When you look confident, you will be approached as someone confident. You will find people’s reactions to you will be different, and more positive. Even your horse will trust and respect you more!

Research shows that how you position your body cues your mind to feel a certain way. Use this important tool to your favor and watch it add to your success! I’ve noticed that in a business I can often spot the owner or the manager simply by how they carry themselves. They seem to have a level of authority. Develop that trait!

86 Color Breed 2023 SHOW HORSE TODAY

2. Look up and look people in the eye

Often unconfident people, or people who are ashamed of their body or themselves, will look down or avoid eye contact with people.

When you force yourself to look someone right in the eye, you are saying, “I’m okay with me!” So, when you enter the arena, don’t be afraid to look the judges right in the eye confidently. Look people in the eye, never to stare someone down, but to show that you are unafraid and friendly.

3. Smile

Practice smiling; you will be surprised how much better you will feel. Smiling sends subtle messages to your brain and is proven to help you feel better. When you look someone right in the eye and smile at them, you are sending out positive energy. This world operates under the law of sowing and reaping. What you sow, you will reap. Sow a happy, sincere smile to others and you will reap favor and positivity. Your confidence, and faith in yourself will grow and grow!

Confidence is really a belief, or

faith in yourself and the outcome.

Many people not only don’t feel good about themselves, they also don’t believe in themselves! Decide to believe in yourself!

Remember…

Self confidence is not the absence of fear, but the mastery of fear.

You can master fear!

and I knew I had to take him home with me. It was the best decision I have ever made!

Where, what level, and in what classes do you show your roan?

I show my stallion in Halter, Hunter InHand, Lounge Line, and In-Hand Trail classes. We show at the Roan World Show as well as some other breed circuits that offer All-Breed classes such as ABRA, GLBA, and BHAM.

What is your favorite thing to do with your roan horse?

My favorite thing to do with Rip is to introduce him to new obstacles and challenges. He is such a level-headed and intelligent stallion who handles new situations with ease which makes new challenges fun!

MEGAN SHERMAN & FQHR ALL MY RICHES

When and where did you first see your roan, how did you end up with him as yours, and how long have you owned her?

In September of 2021 my husband and I attended the yearly horse sale at Froelich Ranch in North Dakota. I went to the sale planning on looking at a few other colts but Rip caught my eye the morning of the sale

What is your favorite memory with

your roan horse?

My favorite memory with Rip is receiving Reserve High Point award in Stallion Halter through the BHAM circuit in 2022. It made for a great first year of showing him as a yearling and makes me look forward to what we will achieve together in 2023!

What are your thoughts about the American Roan Horse Association?

The American Roan Horse Association puts on a great World Show and has always been very pleasant to work with. It’s a wonderful association that I wish offered more Roan shows throughout the year!

PALM PARTNERSHIP TRAINING ™

Backing with a Loose Lead

If you have been following this series, we’ve been discussing how to teach your horse basic ground training commands including “come to me”, “move away from me”, and “whoa” or stop. Now I am going to share tips for teaching your horse the fourth basic command- how to “back”. Make sure your horse is consistently responding to the first three commands before introducing this lesson.

Backing is an excellent exercise to improve communication with your horse and sharpen your reactions to control his body position. It also improves under saddle work because your horse learns to respond to your vocal and body language cues, with lightness.

Before we start, let’s quickly review how to set a foundation for success. Make sure your horse is properly equipped for training. You don’t need any fancy equipment or training aids. A properly fitting halter, a longe line or lead rope, and leg protection is all he needs. I recommend using a longe line because its length gives more flexibility to move with your horse and still remain in contact.

Instead of attaching the longe to the bottom halter ring, I prefer the “longe-line-over-the-nose“ technique for more control. Thread

the longe line through the halter ring on the side you are working on, over the nose, clipping it on the ring on the opposite side of the halter. Make sure that the snap faces outward. It will be easier to release in case of an emergency. I like using my Palm Partnership Halter because, unlike other halters, the rings are designed large enough to allow a lead or longe to easily fit through them. Excess longe line should be held in a loose, but organized neat coil.

I’ll stress again the importance of location when teaching any ground training command. Introduce this maneuver in a confined area, free from distraction, and familiar to your horse. His stall is a perfect place. When he demonstrates consistent responses to your commands there move to a slightly less secure, larger area such as an aisleway of the barn, then a round pen or paddock and repeat the maneuver. Continue this process, each time graduating to a slightly less secure location until you can get consistent responses anywhere you ask your horse. If your horse does not understand or is inconsistent in his responses, go back to a more secure location and repeat the lesson there.

Your goal is to teach your horse to willingly back up on a loose lead, while keeping his body straight from his poll to the top of his tail, without any

Color Breed 2023 129 SHOW HORSE TODAY

pressure or tugging. Sound impossible? Let’s break it down into some simple steps.

A horse can best perform this maneuver when he is straight which will enable him to be balanced. So give yourself and your horse an advantage by positioning him alongside a wall or fence to help keep him straight when starting this maneuver.

Stand at your horse’s near (left) side approximately one foot away from him. Turn and face your horse so that you are slightly in front and off the side of his left shoulder. Never stand directly in front of any horse. It is an unsafe position and a common error when teaching this maneuver.

Direct your vision to focus on the horse’s entire topline, from his head to the top of his tail. This will allow you to see a bigger picture of what happening and better evaluate and respond to your horse’s reactions. Avoid the common error of looking down at the horse’s feet. Focusing attention there prevents you from seeing his responses and body position.

With the coiled longe in your right hand, lightly place your hand the left side of your horse’s halter at the chin piece (the part of the halter that goes underneath the head). As I’ve stressed in past lessons—if you control the horse’s head, you control his body

position. Your contact will only be used to guide the head and neck to keep them straight in the middle of the shoulders and in alignment with the spine.

Using a deep, commanding tone say “back” as you apply light pressure on the halter and move toward your horse’s shoulder. Use your contact on the halter to keep his head straight. Do not pull on the halter or the lead to force him to move! The instant your horse takes a step backward, step with him. Release the pressure as you ask him to stop using the “whoa” command. Praise him with a stroke on his forehead or a pet.

If your horse does not respond, reevaluate your position, reposition him by walking him forward (you don’t need to turn around, just back up a few steps as you continue to face him) and ask him to back again. This time add a little reinforcement by pressing your right hand on the point of his shoulder (the “point” refers to the round joint, much like our shoulder joint, located at the bottom of his shoulder) to encourage him to step backward.

Keep a contact on the point of his shoulder using either a steady pressure or soft pulsating contact that varies in pressure with the timing of the horse lifting his legs to step backwards. Avoid using an on-off type touch, a tap, or slap, which will only frustrate

130 Color Breed 2023 SHOW HORSE TODAY

or aggravate your horse. The instant that he makes an effort to move backward, praise him. As he learns the verbal cues, you will eliminate this guiding pressure and the touch on the halter. He will respond and “back” with a voice command only. Once he can consistently back several steps alongside the wall, ask him to back from the middle of the stall. This will be more challenging because you will not have the wall to help keep him straight.

The tendency for most horses is to swing their hindquarters out of the desirable straightline alignment when backing. It is usually moving the hips to the right if the handler is working from the near side since because most people will unintentionally move the head to the left and towards themselves when executing the maneuver.

To correct hindquarter alignment problems, you must react quickly to slightly reposition the horse’s head in the same direction that his hindquarters are moving to re-align his body. For example, as your horse is backing his hindquarters swing out to the left. With light tension on the lead, reposition his head slightly to the left

as he continues to step backwards. This will cause him to move his hindquarters to the right, straightening his body.

If your horse gets too far out of alignment, ask him to walk forward a few steps to straighten his body. Stop, reposition, and ask for the maneuver again. Focus on keeping his head straight as you ask him to back. Watch his topline to anticipate and respond to alignment problems as they happen.

Vary your command to back with the

Color Breed 2023 131 SHOW HORSE TODAY

“come to me” command so that your horse doesn’t associate your presence at his shoulder with a reaction to back up. Once he consistently responds to your command to back on his near side, repeat the lesson on his off (right) side.

Your Next Step…

Don’t forget that a horse’s hooves really start to grow this time of year. Call your blacksmith and get on a schedule for trims and/or resets every 4-6 weeks depending on your horse’s needs. With Springtime’s warmer temperatures and with the busy riding and show season here, time spent on training and schooling our horses increases. Whether riding for the ribbons or just the pleasure of being together, don’t forget to reward your horse’s extra efforts by rewarding him with some healthy treats. Purina is offering a horse treat that is not only tasty, but good for your horse, too! Even dogs like it, including my two English Lab pups Sherlock and Watson who love to sneak them away from my horses!

Make it part of your schooling to practice the “back-up” command and the other in-hand lessons we’ve covered in the past several articles. Create exercises using combinations of these four basic ground-training maneuvers to keep your horse interested and to build his responsiveness to your commands.

Time spent on ground training will pay big rewards in precision responses in your horse without pressure, tugging, or pulling!

Until then, follow your dreams…
