Dominic Chapman’s Jam Doughnuts
Owner of Maidenhead pub, The Crown Burchetts Green, and former chef for Heston Blumenthal, Dominic Chapman is an expert on British classics such as these delectable jam doughnuts.
Method
1. To activate the yeast, combine with the slightly warm milk and 50g of the caster sugar and bring to 38°C. Leave somewhere warm until it begins to foam. Mix the flour, salt, egg and vanilla in a food mixer with a dough hook attachment.
2. Once the yeast mixture has begun to foam, pour into the flour mix and continue to mix until a soft dough forms – the kids will love this bit. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5 minutes to strengthen the dough – let the kids get involved with the kneading.
3. Place the dough in a large plastic container. Spread the thinly sliced butter over the top. Cover the container with a damp tea towel and leave somewhere warm to proveuntil doubled in size.
4. Knock back the dough and ensure the butter is evenly mixed in. Then, separate
into doughnut-shaped balls, approximately 20g each, and knead until smooth and round –kids will have fun creating the balls.
5. Line a baking tray with nonstick baking paper. Spread the uncooked doughnuts out on the tray, leaving plenty of room for them to prove. Cover loosely with greased cling film and leave somewhere warm to prove again.
6. Once the balls have doubled in size, carefully place them, one by one, into a frying pan to 190°C. Once the underside is golden brown, use a slotted spoon to gently turn over. Continue to fry until evenly coloured.
7. Remove the doughnuts from the oil, shake off any excess. Roll the doughnuts in the remaining caster sugar until evenly coated. Leave to cool on a wire rack.
Ingredients:
Makes 12
• 1 large egg
• 225ml milk, warm
• 250g caster sugar
• 1¼ tsp dried yeast
• 450g strong bread flour, white
• 1 vanilla pod
• 2 tsp vanilla essence
• 25g butter, thinly sliced
• 1 tbsp vegetable oil, for frying
• ½ tsp salt
• 360g strawberry jam, for filling
8. Once cool, make an incision in the side of each doughnut and pipe in a small amount of strawberry jam. Leave to cool, then serve!
Introducing Blossom’s Crafts & Events
A creative escape in the heart of Stafford
Hi, I’m Bobbie, the founder and owner of Blossom’s Crafts & Events Co, a brand new creative space coming to Mill Street in Stafford!
Having my own business has always been a huge pipe dream, so to see things taking shape is beyond surreal. I have always envisaged a business based around creativity and here we are!
I have come from a background of corporate and office jobs that would be classed as your classic 9–5, but after turning 40 this year and also losing my mum in late 2023, I decided I needed something more fulfilling in my life and picked up on my dream of running my own business.
My vision is to create a relaxed and fun environment where people of all ages can come together and simply lose themselves in being creative, for whichever session you choose to do.
Tackling stress and anxiety has always been a challenge for me – and more so the older you get –so the idea is, whilst you are here, you can switch off from the outside world! Meet like-minded people and, most importantly, relax and have fun!
I am really excited about giving the little ones an opportunity to be away from the screens and TV, and just lose themselves in those creative minds of theirs!
Blossom’s will be a place where you can come alone and try something new with a coffee and cake, catch
up with a friend and have a chat whilst creating something beautiful, come as a group and have some fun, or have the place to yourself and celebrate that special occasion!
I will also be hosting parties where all the stress will be taken away for you – from table decoration to the balloons, the food, and the activity itself – hopefully bringing something a little different to your event.
The website and social accounts will be kept up to date, and I will make sure to share more on the venue as things start to come together! We will also be keeping everyone updated here too, in The Cannock Local magazine.
We are aiming to be open for August, with some great sessions for families during the summer holidays!. Bookings will be open very soon so keep your eyes peeled!
I finally wanted to say a huge thank you to the local businesses that have shown their support, and for your kind words on this new venture! I really hope for some collaborations soon.
Email us at info@blossomscraftsandevents.co.uk and find all of our latest updates over on our website, www.blossomscraftsandevents.co.uk or find us on social media at Blossoms Crafts and Events Co.

Cannock Friends of St Giles
Cannock Friends of St Giles were absolutely delighted when Julie Cassidy, owner of Do Re Mi Boutique and Homeware in High Green Court, Cannock decided to donate all funds raised at a Fashion Show raffle to the group.
Julie and her staff organised a super Spring and Summer fashion show which was held at the Premier Suite in Cannock. The show was a sellout and everyone who was there had a fabulous evening! There were gift bags for everyone –with generous goodies inside, putting a smile on everyone’s face. The welcome drink and the canapés were thoroughly enjoyed – and created just the right mood for enjoying the many clothes and accessories being shown.
People were so very generous in their support of the raffle; Julie chose St Giles Hospice because her Dad – and indeed the whole family - had received such care from the Hospice during his illness. The raffle raised an amazing £1,000!!
Cannock Friends Janette Arrowsmith and Trish Mellor, along with St Giles Trustee Val Jones went along to the shop to receive the funds from Julie. The group now has a Just Giving account so that anyone who wishes to donate can do so.
Do Re Mi provides a fabulous range of clothing, accessories for the women of Cannock and beyond – follow them on facebook @DoReMi Boutique and Homeware or visit their website www.doremiboutique.com. Cannock Friends of St Giles can be followed on their facebook page @ CannockfriendsofStGiles and the JustGiving account can be accessed via the St Giles Hospice website

The Man Who Never Was – July 8th
A Talk by Andy French
Andrew French will reveal the truth about Operation Mincemeat, the secret operation intended to deceive the Germans and allow allied troops to return to
mainland Europe during WW2.
Discover the true story of this attempt to trick Nazi Germany into weakening Sicily’s defences in 1943, by making them think that the invasion was going to be in Greece. They used a dead man with fake papers, bringing about the phrase “The Man Who Never Was”.
However, the talk develops into a possible government cover up and conspiracy that still holds firm today. Original documents from 1943 are used to prove what really happened, turning this piece of history into a “personal one” – it has a direct French family connection.
