Have Spring Break Cabin Fever?

My mom used to cure it by baking up some pizzas, putting a big blanket down on the living room floor, and putting a videotape we rented into the VCR. It was an indoor picnic of sorts for my brothers and me.

At the peak of my daughter’s cabin fever, we’d wash floors and sing, “It’s a Hard Knocks Life” from the musical Annie. It’s a struggle having a musical theater geek for a mom. Just ask her. She’ll tell you.

Now, when four of my fiance’s children stay at our house, we don’t notice much of a fever. Instead, the tween and teens develop cases of screen-induced apathy.

No matter which winter hibernation related ailment your children come down with, Exploring Rochester is a great cure.

Spring Break PIPSQUEAKS Pipsqueaks is designed to offer safe play zones loaded with toys and activities, that kindergarten-age and younger children will enjoy, including:

Imagination Zone features a playhouse, Lego and train tables, and computers.

ABC TOY ZONE Storytime is on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. during Spring Break. Their Anniversary Sale ends on March 31, so you may want to take the kids shopping for a fun educational toy or project that they can use or do during their break.

Shopping sales can be a great opportunity to work on math skills, especially percentages and subtraction.

ARCHERY ADDICTION Children 6 years-old and older and adults can have archery fun at Archery Addiction. All equipment is provided. Spring Break ROCHESTER PUBLIC LIBRARY There’s plenty to keep their minds active during Spring Break at the Rochester Public Library. Until I took a closer look, I had no idea how much the library has to offer to children and teens. They’re hosting a Hooray for Saturday Family Dance Party (3/31), Lego Robotics and Maker Fun Day (4/2), the Harry Potter Alliance will be meeting (4/2), Family Storytime (4/3), Science Storytime (4/4), Mad Science Club (4/4), Hooray for Saturday: Treasure Beyond Measure (4/7).

More information, including exact times are available on their website. I recommend having a look, because some activities may be much more interesting to your kids than you might expect.
