Follow this drive and you be rewarded with stunning beaches and bays, dolphin parades, sailing, fishing and prawning – a mecca for water lovers.

ou’ll find villages of traditional holiday cottages alongside fabulous architect-designed coastal homes. The villages are friendly and casual, with a great sun and surf vibe, but each one still retaining its own unique character. Greenwell Point is seafood central for the northern Shoalhaven. A small fleet of trawlers heads out daily to bring in the catch and its waters are famous for magnificent oysters. Surrounded on three sides by river, beach and lake is the settlement of Culburra Beach, a well-established popular beach destination, its main beach is patrolled in summer for a good surfing experience. Nightlife is taken care of with licensed restaurants, a club, cafes and shops. A haven for birds, Lake Wollumboola (part of Jervis Bay National Park) is a shallow, saline lagoon that provides a winter habitat for endangered migratory birds and a refuge for many waterbirds, including black swans. Along the coast a little further is the village of Currarong, the quintessential seaside destination

with its retro fibro holiday homes sitting side-by-side with grander modern homes. This area has been a favourite of several generations of holidaymakers over the years, with people coming back again and again. There are lots of swimming spots to suit every level of skill and great fishing for the whole family. If you’re up for a bushwalk, head out on one of the tracks that start at Abrahams Bosom Reserve. You can take the short return walk out to where the S.S. Merimbula was wrecked, or the nine kilometre Coomies circuit. Drive out to the Point Perpendicular lighthouse and catch sight of migrating whales in season or if the nor’easter is blowing, spend some time at one of the sheltered Jervis Bay beaches on Beecroft Peninsula, such as Long Beach or Honeymoon Bay, ideal for swimming and fantastic snorkelling. Also on the northern side of Jervis Bay are Callala Bay, Callala Beach and Myola offering safe beach swimming and dolphin sightings. There is a sailing club at Callala Bay as well as a regional boat ramp. Drive distance: approx. 127km
