Head Coach Walt Krystopik Jackson Memorial
In his fourth season as the head coach of his alma mater, Krystopik took the Jaguars to the top of the Shore Conference and led them to their fourth NJSIAA title in program history to earn Shore Sports Network Coach of the Year honors.
Jackson Memorial finished 11-1 and captured its first Central Jersey Group IV title since going undefeated in 2005 by knocking off Middletown South, 21-18, at Rutgers University. The Jaguars ended Red Bank Catholic’s 40-game winning streak against Shore Conference competition with a 33-27 overtime victory during the regular season on their way to finishing No. 1 in the Shore Sports Network Top 10 rankings. They also finished as the top-ranked public school team in New Jersey. Jackson Memorial produced two 1,000-yard rushers, Mike Gawlik and Vinny Lee, for the first time in program history, and averaged 35.2 points per game to set a single-season school record with 423 points. Krystopik has a 30-13 record in his four seasons as head coach, which includes leading the Jaguars to the Class A South title in 2013. A 1993 Jackson Memorial graduate, he played running back for Monmouth University from 1993-1996 in the infancy of the Hawks’ program, and then finished his degree at Thomas Edison State College in 1997. He began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant at Jackson Memorial in 1998 under former coach Chris Barnes. He later served as the defensive coordinator under former coach Mike Smith from 2004-2010 before ascending to the head coach position in 2011.
