DEAR SHORE CONFERENCE SPORTSMANSHIP WINNERS,

O

n behalf of the Shore Conference of High Schools we would like to congratulate you on your selection as a Sportsmanship Award winner from your high school. You have been chosen for this honor because of your hard work, exemplary leadership skills, respect for others…all while putting the needs of your teammates ahead of your own personal glory.

DEAR SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD RECIPIENTS,

N

ormally I get to offer my congratulations and praise as the master of ceremonies during a breakfast ceremony, but as we know these are not normal times. You and your fellow seniors have dealt with challenges like no other class in your lifetime and have missed out on so much of what makes being a senior so special - prom, graduation and more. For many of you that includes a spring season that would have found you playing baseball, softball, lacrosse, golf, tennis and volleyball or running and throwing for your track team. Sadly, that opportunity was not available because of this unprecedented pandemic which has kept you and your fellow athletes sidelined. This was especially disappointing for those of you playing your final season as part of a team before moving on to college to put 100% of your focus into education. However, that does not diminish what you have accomplished as a high school student-athlete and your selection for this very prestigious award. Out of all your classmates, you have been chosen as someone who best represents the ideals of good sportsmanship. You are the person your school is proud to honor as their representative. This is an awesome achievement and in many ways far exceeds what you have done on the field, court, etc. You have set a standard for others to follow, one that is not based on statistics but intangibles like leadership, understanding, responsibility and fairness. When you look back on your final year of high school, undoubtedly living and learning through a crisis will be something that will stand out. It is something you will tell your children about someday. I hope you also tell them that one of the best parts was being selected from so many to receive this honor, to be recognized as someone who simply understands while winning and losing is important, there is so much more to being an athlete and playing competitive sports. On behalf of all of us at the Shore Sports Network please accept my heartfelt congratulations on a job very well done and all the best in the future. Sincerely, Kevin Williams PS-Congrats to your parents and families as well. They helped get you here!
