2017 MASTER OF CEREMONIES

K

evin Williams is currently in his 38th year at WOBM radio and holds positions on and off the air for Townsquare Media, including Director of the Shore Sports Network.

To listeners and the public, he is best known for his work on the air. Kevin is a ninetime winner of the New Jersey Sportscaster of the Year Award (National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association) and his popular daily commentary “The Hometown View” has been honored four times by the New Jersey Broadcasters Association for “Best Public Service” and airs weekday mornings on both 92.7 WOBM FM and Beach Radio 1160 and 1310.

Kevin is in charge of the award-winning team that broadcasts live high school football and basketball games for the Shore Sports Network in addition to a weekly High School Football Show in the fall. He also helps manage the popular web site www.shoresportsnetwork.com and the bi-monthly Shore Sports Network Journal and broadcasts morning sports reports on 105.7 The Hawk. Kevin is also the founder and director of the WOBM Christmas Classic, a 32-team high school basketball tournament at the Pine Belt Arena which he and the radio station have run since 1984.

A member of the Central Regional Athletic Hall of Fame, the Jersey Shore Sports Hall of Fame, Shore Football Coaches Foundation Hall of Fame and the Region 6 Wrestling Hall of Fame, he has also received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Central Regional High School, the Ocean County College Distinguished Alumni Award and an honoree degree from OCC. He was inducted into the New Jersey Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame in 2015 and has been honored by numerous organizations for his charitable efforts and professional accomplishments and is a past recipient of the Beachwood Citizen of the Year Award. Kevin is a past Chairman of the Toms River-Ocean County Chamber of Commerce and is involved in the Toms River Student Loan Fund, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ocean County, Beachwood Soccer Club and Beachwood Municipal Alliance.

His wife Jane is a retired guidance counselor and they have two children (Brandon and Alexandra) who are both graduates of Penn State University. Brandon is Director of Public Relations at Fanatics and Alex is event coordinator at A2E.

MARLBORO HIGH SCHOOL

AVE RYDEN is completing his 11th year as the Supervisor of Extra Curricular Activities at

Marlboro High School and throughout that time has been very active in athletics on both a local and state level.

A past president of the Shore Conference of High Schools, he currently serves as director of the Boys & Girls Tennis Tournaments and the Boys & Girls Volleyball Tournaments. Dave is also chairman of the Football Committee, the “A North” representative for the Officials Committee and has served as the webmaster since 2013.

Dave also gives time and energy to the Director of Athletics Association of New Jersey as the group’s Treasurer and Monmouth and Ocean County Representative on the Executive Board. He also serves on several committees for the DAANJ and has done the same for the NJSIAA.

Dave earned his BS in Physical Education and Health Education from West Virginia University and his MA in Education Administration from Montclair State University. He lives in Howell with his wife Lauren and daughter Riley.

AREN HUGHES is completing her 31st year with the Lacey Township School District, spending the first

in the high school.

19 as a teacher and coach before moving into administration in 2004 when she became the Athletic Director at the high school. In 2011 she took over athletics in the Middle School as well and is also the Supervisor of Physical Education/Health

Karen takes special pride in helping add many new sports and teams to the school’s athletic program including Men’s and Women’s Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse, Ice Hockey and Women’s Golf. At the same time she has helped implement freshman and JV levels to existing sports which she believes is very important as athletics add to the positive growth and development, physically, socially and emotionally of all students.

Karen earned her BS in Physical Education and Health Education from Montclair State University and her MA in Administration, Supervision and Curriculum Planning from Georgian Court University. She lives with her 7-year old son Ty and is also an aunt to six nieces and six nephews. An outstanding high school and college athlete (she is a member of the Central Regional Athletic Hall of Fame) Karen was a basketball and softball official and hopes to return to that in the future.
