Why Study Computer Science & Engineering at SNU

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, housed within the School of Engineering, is one of the largest departments at Shiv Nadar University. The Department has dedicated faculty who are experts in their field of work.

The Department has a thriving research environment, and the areas of ongoing research are Algorithms and Complexity, Natural Language Processing, Image Processing, Computer Vision, Data Mining, Social Network Analysis, Computational Biology, Security and Privacy, Internet of Things, Wireless and Mobile Computing. The Department continuously seeks brilliant computer scientists who will spearhead research in emerging areas.

At the undergraduate level, we offer a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) program in Computer Science and Engineering with the option to specialise in:

• Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

• Data Science and Big Data Analytics

• Cybersecurity and Privacy

The curriculum takes into account the latest developments in the world of computing. Research is promoted at the undergraduate level. The Department offers exciting opportunities to expand intellectual horizons through

Curriculum

The B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering course curriculum requires students to complete a minimum of 160 credits, of which 61 credits are to be completed from Major Core, 15 from Major Electives, 17 in Basic Sciences, 13 in Engineering Sciences and 12 from the project basket. The programme’s multidisciplinary components give students a strong foundation in humanities and social sciences, natural sciences, technology and engineering studies, communications and management. Major Core courses are carefully selected and designed to provide a strong foundation for undergraduates.

Major Electives are offered in various thrust areas of the Department, such as Theoretical Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Science and Big Data Analytics, Cyber Security and Privacy. Students wishing to specialise must have an overall CGPA of 7 or above and CGPA in the specialisation component of 8 or above. The student must complete a minimum of 12 credits in the area of specialisation. When graduating, students who have completed the specialisation requirements may apply for a specialisation in CSE to a UG advisor for further processing. Computer Science and Engineering majors are encouraged to work on research projects the faculty pursue and publish in highly reputed journals and conferences.

B.Tech. (CSE) • The coursework is meticulously designed to empower students in developing core competencies.

• Option for specialisations in one of the following areas: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Science and Big Data Analytics, and Cybersecurity and Privacy

• UG students are also encouraged to earn a minor degree in the areas of their interest along with a B. Tech.

Ph.D. (CSE)

• Applicants who fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria are selected based on their performance in the Shiv Nadar University Ph.D. entrance examination.

• Full-time Ph.D. students may be offered a tuition fee waiver and competitive monthly stipend depending on their performance.

• The full-time Ph.D. program is fully residential.

State-of-the-art Laboratories

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering has developed several state-of-the-art laboratories with sophisticated instruments. One of the faculty experts in that domain heads the laboratory with a supportive and efficient laboratory technical staff. The department enables the faculty members to mentor students towards achieving excellence in research.
