Maa Parvati was mesmerized by Lord Shiva, she wanted to marry him. However, she faced resistance from her father as he wished her to marry Lord Vishnu. On this day she asked her friends to abduct her. She went to the forest and sat in penance and this mesmerized Lord Shiva and got married to Maa Parvati on this day. Therefore on this day married women pray and fast for the good health and longevity of their husband and their family. Unmarried women fast so that they get a husband like Lord Shiva. It is made from 2 words Harat which means abduction in Hindi and Aalika which means friend. So girls and women celebrate with friends and companions. Rituals to be performed while performing Hartalika Teej Puja Like Karwa Chauth, Hartalika Teej's fast has to be observed by fasting without grains and water. The following steps can be followed as the complete guide to Hartalika Teej ● Get up in the morning, have a bath, and perform all the ablutions. Wear new clothes and jewellery and dress up. ● Worship the Idols of Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva, and Maa Parvati. Lord Ganesha is worshipped first since he is the beloved son and it is necessary before any pooja to worship. Perform Ganesha Arti. ● After that perform the arti and Pooja for Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati.
