STUDIOARCHITECTURE DESIGN - VI

TYPOLOGYAFFORDABLE HOUSING PROJECT

LOCATIONBANER , PUNE

SITE AREA18,000 Sq. mt.

The purpose of this studio is to develop a housing project that focuses on decoding habitat through social-economical equity and livability index. The aim is to create a housing development that is not only affordable but also sustainable, healthy, and liveable for all residents, regardless of their social-economic background.

Due to COVID-19, the housing unit has more than just a place to live. It has become our workplace, our work-out place and hang out place at the same time. Hence, it is now our habitat- the place to live and grow.

Keeping this in mind, the project considered various activities happening in a habitat, the site context, was targetted at a user group and was designed for the micro and macro climate of Pune.

Since the project mentioned here is affordable housing, it welcomes various types of users like college students. retired couples. middle and low income families and so on. This gives rise to the various types of people coming together to form a community. For the interaction of this community, a hierarchy of open spaces is provided. Safety of the children and pedestrains is considered and hence the landscape areas and the driveways are distinctly separated.

FORM EVOLUTION

CONCEPT -

High density urban housing causes lack of community life due to which there is less interaction between people. this design is inspired from the character of the street, as eyes on street produces safe design. our perception of home is not only in living room, bed rooms and toilets,it starts when we enter through a street, courtyards and passages ect. our activity pattern changes as we go through these areas. cultural and environmental contexts of the streets is reflected from the project.

TYPOLOGYLONG SPAN STRUCTURE

LOCATIONTIGER POINT , LONAVALA

SITE AREA800 Sq.mtr.

The purpose of this studio is to understand the structural system of long span structures and apply it to develop a skywalk at tiger point in Lonavala.

The concept of this skywalk is to create new vistas along tiger point without disturbing the sancity of tiger’s point views. In a 20 minutes esquise various different pathway were tracked along the slope. The pathway with the most variety of view and giving sense of security and safety path was choosen. After an analysis of the slope was done, steeper faces with a better vantage point was choosen. Points on the cliff surface were then placed parametrically, at a distance of 5 m to create an even slope.Hence, like a slithering snake, our skywalk slithers around the profile of the face with undulating roof forms arranged parametrically according to the sun and wind to exploit the views.

ARMY MUSEUM AND EXPERIENCE CENTER

Individual work

STUDIOARCHITECTURE DESIGN - IV

TYPOLOGYMUSEUM LOCATIONPUNE

SITE AREA18,750 Sq. mt.

The purpose of this studio is to design an army museum and experience center honouring our country’s armed forces and making the visitor’s realise the sacrifices made by armed forces to keep citizens safe. It will comprise of photo galleries displaying uniforms, weapons, medals, scale models, audio-visual facilities, outdoor and displays of equipment, technology and weaponry, spaces to celebrate and commemorate important days and events memorials. Pune being a major peace time military base, is an ideal location for such an institution.

The form of the museum is derived from crystals , as crystals go through a lot during formation process before protruding out of earth surface. In a similar way Armed forces go through rigorous training before stepping in field , after so much hardship they come out as a gem of a person. The aim was for the visitors to be able to touch , feel and see army in a non-threatening environment and also to rebrand museums for new generation.

12 GROUND FLOOR PLAN

Intended to create open , breathing building in order to form dialectic relationship with surrounding landscape.

Form will be filled with small voids having gardens . Spaces are organised as losely bounded aggregates , interlocked with surrounding landscape , so that landscape can be seen as a part of internal and external relationships of the building , while the building accomodates the spaces in return.

Interconnected to the surrounding environment forming multi layered open spaces –

THE DHARAVI PROJECT (2021)

Group work (3 people)

TYPOLOGYCOMMUNITY CENTRE

LOCATIONDHARAVI , MUMBAI

SITE AREA800 Sq.mtr.

This competition was organised by archdais. The aim of the competition is to develop a place making project that will act as a Centre for change and community empowerment, in the heart of Dharavi, that will be wholly and truly owned by the people there. This will be a project that has the potential to become an umbrella institution for initiating change in Dharavi from within.

The site creates opportunities by/for itself through the many spaces and landscape within. Infact, it seeks to engineer the very profession of recycling as a physical manifestation of the architecture, that is, the junk gabion walls. The walls are nestled be- tween the amoebic slabs as a reflection of the organic attitude of Dharavi’s architecture, also a construction by the people of Dhar- avi themselves. The spaces within are placed in conjunction either with the staircase within, or the terraces overlooking the city of Mumbai. Arraying across the spaces to the staircase to the landscape, it is all tied together with the earthed ramp circling like a literal ‘dhara’ and the coconut trees threading through.

In its true essence, one can say that Re-Dhara (we) is and will be a spliting consequence of the set tenets of the Reuse of scraps, Recycling of the junk, Recreation of spaces, Renewal of nature and Rejuvenation of the community.

19 05

Re - dhara (we)

Like a rekindled flame in a patchwork house deep in Dharavi, Re-Dhara (we) is the medium for the revival of olden cultures in lasting milieus. As a recreation of the lost swampy islands of Dharavi, the community center hosts a variety of spaces for the upgradation of the community. From temporary galleries tented under the stilts, to theatres on the moundscape, to flexible spaces riddled across, Re-Dhara (we) is designed to showcase its ambivalent planning with the spaces on terraced slabs.

PANDEMIC MEMORIAL

Group work (3 people)

TYPOLOGYPANDEMIC MEMORIAL

LOCATIONBANGALORE,KARNATAKA

SITE AREA3500 Sq.mtr.

This competition was organised by SMEF’S brick school of architecture under an international conference on blurred boundaries . The aim of the competition was to design a memorial of remembrance and reflections that would capture the essence of the memory of the pandemic and the sentiments that came with it.

CONCEPT NOTE:

The project’s aim is to have a space that works as an active reminder of the difficult phase that the world has gone through and connect with every observer. The memorial serves as a symbol of past, present and the future. The past is portrayed through memorabilia of deceased. The present is represented by reflectivity that leads a person on the path of selfintrospection. The future is led by the dynamic changes done by an individual, who contributes to uplifting the space.

SITE SELECTION:

The site chosen for the project is located on the Kempepura Main Road, in the city of Bangalore in India, alongside the Nagavara Lake. Bengaluru being one of the worst-hit cities in India made its way up for hosting a project of such kind. It provides a potential site that provides a calm surrounding with pleasant climatic conditions in an urban setting. Since, it is centrally located in city, the site has an easy access from all areas and by a variety of mode of transportation. It is in proximity with the public leisure spaces like Lumbini gardens and IT hubs like Maanyata Tech Park, making it available to wider audience. Also, the last Gulmohar tree of Bangalore was recorded on this site, making it an important landmark environmentally.

INTERNSHIP WORK

JUNE-JULY , NOVEMBER - DECEMBER

I worked under the guidance of Ar. Nazia Ansari who is the principal architect of myallscapes . I was involved in various stages of the design process, including site analysis, concept development, final drawings . I also got the opportunity to work collaboratively with professionals from different disciplines and learn about their perspectives on design. The internship provided me with valuable insights into the field of landscape architecture and its intersection with architecture.
