About : This studio facilitates the design of spatial articulation in response to the chosen program as well as physical and visual attributes of a given site context.

It was a explore design research, program brief, understanding various built form systems as well as design and organization of various spatial elements.

Concept : The axial placements of the functions by the derivations of the light required in the space. And developing the concentric axises for the transitions between the two functions.

Basically the aim was to learn about the space planning. And the use of the natural light in the space.

Program : Designing a workspace Clients : Cept Outreach Office.

Site : Cept Workshop, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Area : 250sqm.

Materials : Polycarbonate sheet, Concrete, Metal.

About : This studio course involves generation of small-scale commercial interior environment. This will be through research, analysis, conceptualization and design. The projects include exercises in spatial planning as a response to function. Exercise undertake organization of products/objects to explore circulation and transactions with material exploration.

Concept : To involve the biomimicry of the tree in the space. So reassembling the tree in the office space by the transition of the functions through the levels and the fractal geometry derived from tree. Also, the material exploration plays an important role.

The polycarbonate sheets and the metal were the main material and explored in the space. The idea of inbuilt furniture was also explored.

Eploring point, line and surfaces in the given space and response to the curved roof.

Detailed Models - whole to part.

Understanding of open, semi-public and private spaces, also the transition through the levels and visual aspects.

Program : Nrutya - Residence and workplace for a Dancer.

Clients : A Bharatnatyam dancer and a housewife.

Site : Living Interiors, 5 storey building, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Area : 450sqm.

Materials : Mud, Wood, Metal.

About : The approach of architecture and interior design for two divergent end usages: the residential and the workplace are different. Varied, complex, interwoven sometimes (with the lifestyle of a person), fundamentally different; the physical manifestation of spaces requires an understanding and sensitivity to bring about the two together on a common ground to function simultaneously.

Concept : The main idea is to involve the movement and balance in the space, by studying the “ Namashkaram� of the bharatnatyam.

The study approaches to the mathematical grid, which is followed in the plan and the section. Hence the element - staircase, plays an important role in the space as a balancing element, and contributes to connect workspace and a residence.

Program : Experienced Centre.

Clients : Architect, Interior designer and Public.

Site : Kathwada, nr. Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Area : 380sqm.

Material : Polycarbonate sheet, metal, terrazzo.

About : As an approach, Interior spaces can be visualized and created by using three layers.

Each layer can be an outcome from: Programme + Site context, Image of the place, and Qualitative aspect for execution of details (Function + Construction + Aesthetics) Concept : Bubbles in biomimicry.

From the derivation using the site context and the user my centre is like “Industrial Chemical Laboratory� and from the further research the detailed concept is bubbles i.e. derived from the program and the functions. Thus the project develops the process and understanding in developing the type of details. Hence the project is still underdevloping.

05 Fu r n i t u re Design.

The main aim was to deal with the materials - wood and metal, and explore the idea of the joineries and the techniques of the constructions and also the study of the ergonomics. The exercise of replicating the chairs helps us to learn different types of joineries and fixing methods.

The wooden high stool need to be designed for the habitat 67 residence space. The main concept was to follow the principles of the space in the furniture development. Many structural analysis were done for the stable and light structure. The simple wooden joinery were explore such as tung - groove and lap joint, to make it aesthetically approachable the small groove was developed between the leg frame and seating. Hence the result was the good, comfortable wooden high stool but it can have a less cross sectional wooden member or it should be also carried forward with the metal. “Some people say that creating a piece of furniture is like creating a piece of jewelry.�

Designing a bar stool for the habitat - 67 interior residential spaces and the criteria of the material was the wood.

Exploring the structure and ergonomics of the furniture and a beautiful process was followed for the structure study, Then it was been executed in 1 : 1 with the help of other two of my friends.

Co n s t r u c t i o n Te c h n o l o g y.

Studying the vernacular constructions and its reason - causes according to the environmental responses. The course helps to develop the material understanding, design execution on the site and also exploring the new intervention regarding the new construction techniques.

The vernacular houses of himachal - “ kath - khuni “, rajasthan rammed earth and wattle - daube where studied regarding the structure and its joinery method and process of development. Even the normal brick bonds where explored regarding the wall thicknesses and structure.

Learned the properties of bamboo and mud. Explored the technique of the wattle and daube construction. Enjoyed working with 20 others from the process of foundation to the execution.

Exploration of brick bonds and its strength with the learning of methods of constructions, properties of bricks and the design execution on the site with the group of 8.

Learned the Kath - khuni vernacular construction using making the model with actual material i. e. wood and stone in group of 2 and also explore the members and elements of the construction.

The main aim was to do working drawing of the kitchen , and also to learn about the functionality and to make it a non - typical kitchen. Also the health study was carried out to understand the functions of the kitchens. The concept was to from whole to the part development through the orthographical drawings. Attention to each and every juctions were carried out.

My attempt was to explore the materials like soapstone, bronze and other basic structured materials. And also tried to explore the functions and working of the cabinates.

To explore different media to create imaginary masses of space, and then scoop out mass to create light in these spaces. A certain geometry was derived out of these that was then converted to schematic plans and sections. Also experimented with various rendering techniques on these drawings.

Apart from getting familiar with schematics, model-making and rendering, this studio sensitized to different qualities of light.

Enjoyed creating a space by exploring mass and void. Learned the derivation of the geometry and the light in the space. Each section h

help to develop the layers and depth in the space. Also the learning of light in such spaces has been studied.

Playing with the horizontal, vertical systems and the spider web in the perspectoscope developed by merging the great spaces through the frames.

Rethinking on models A rc h i p r i x 2 0 1 7 Program : Food and the City : Culture and Safety Designer : Alisa Silanteva The intent was to develop a techniques to translate, articulate and interpret key ideas of a design as a 3D reflections. The course methodology involves a rigorous process of tangible model making to ideat the design.

Many materials were tried in order to reach closer to my imagination of the spatial quality in the project. Functionally there were three layers in the project - the communication frame, the biosocial fabric and the habitable plasma. In the process the spatial relations defined by the designed are translated, clarified and sometimes exaggerated by the relationships and contrasts among the materials.

Kamla Amrut P D C A rc h i t e c t s Kamla Amrut was an industrial development, in which a small club house need to be designed. The first level of space planning and the HVAC and the detail of the furniture were done, when I used to join for the project.

My role in the project was to do correction based on space planning and developing the sectional drawings. HVAC, furniture, horizontal and vertical systems were taken care during the development of the section and if needed the changes were done.

Also a small role in developing the space planning layout options for the client of Cotton Industry and the Nursing Hospital.

Looking into my book, it is always about the destructions of the spaces into the abstract. Hence such analysis of the spaces help me into more creative imagination about the space and its development. Even every result is a outcome of the some destructive process followed by me.
