Since the 2008 establishment of Israel’s National Clean Up Day”, the number of participants in the annual campaign is rapidly growing. In Cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection, we distributed gloves, bags and more to volunteers across the country who took part in the nationwide campaign. Variety of heartwarming environmental activities have been carefully planned and on National Clean-up day the thousands of volunteers went on public outdoors clean-up activities. Groves, parks, neighborhoods and beaches were targeted and the volunteers of all ages from across the country, filled thousands of garbage bags in the variety of inspirational CleanUp operations from Nahariya to Eilat . On National Clean Up Day which is held annually on the l last Tuesday of the month Adar Schools are encouraged to hold a educational programs with an emphasis on the environment, and all students, soldiers and citizens are encouraged to participate in public areas clean-up activities throughout the country. In addition, there are ceremonies, events, and a host of educational activities which appeal to a variety of audiences: decision makers, municipal leaders, students, families and the general public – all intent to raise public awareness to conservation issues and the environment.

Committed to Our Cause Dear Friends, It is my pleasure to send you an Annual Highlights Issue for the 2011-2012 year. This is a Bar Mitzva Year for Clean Up Israel. I feel, that together with the project—Israel too has matured a little with regards to caring for it’s environment… This year, more then 100,000 people committed to a Cleaner Israel in our campaigns throughout the year. however—the road is still long and we keep on going… We have recently launched a new web site , aimed at increasing public awareness and actions towards a Cleaner Israel. I invite you to visit our new web site and share it around as another step towards a Clean Up Israel. I also like to take this opportunity and thank everyone of you who cared, shared and helped our project and thank in advance for those who will. Yours Sincerely, Phillip Foxman.

The divers from Eilat Bay guards and Putzkar Dive center in Nahariya collected dozens of bags filled with debris. In addition, heavy debris was piled underwater to be collected later by suitable heavy duty equipment. Several underwater campaigns take place every year yet the accumulated costs involved in these cleanups are high and as such, the underwater operations are stile rare and depend mainly on donations and volunteered work.

Cleaning Up Israel’s Beaches Annual Highlights 2011-2012

A MESSAGE FROM OUR FOUNDER

The Last annual International Coastal Clean Up in Israel brought a record number of volunteers to Clean Up Israel’s coastline. Some 5,500 volunteers had participated in more than 50 individual clean-ups. The various activities included propaganda distribution to beach goers as well as educational activities – all aimed at raising the awareness about the importance of caring for the cleanliness of our beaches. Ocean Conservancy who initiates the global campaign issues the annual "Trash Travels" report which is based on the cleaning operations. This report is constructed from data collected at the clean ups and provides a roadmap for reducing marine debris, reducing the source, modifying the behaviour that leads to its formation and taking actions and policies to better prevent it.

Clean Up Israel unites communities Caring for the e environment has no religion or age barriers; Both Arab and Jewish communities in Israel have participated in clean-ups across the country in our March Campaign, promoting a cleaner Israel environment . Although the severity of public area’s cleanliness is worse in Arab area’s, the trend for Green school accreditation is growing strong in both communities equally, raising awareness country wide.
