Capital Link Shipping leadership Award – honoring Captain Panagiotis N. Tsakos This year Capital Link initiated the “Capital Link Shipping Leadership Award”, which aims to recognize the patriarchs of Greek Shipping, those pioneers who over a long period of time made a significant contribution to elevating Greek Shipping to its leadership position globally. The Award is presented in the context of the Forum. The “Capital Link Shipping Leadership Award”, was presented to Captain Panagiotis N. Tsakos, a patriarch in the Greek shipping community, by Professor Costas Grammenos, Pro Vice-Chancellor, City University London, Cass Business School during the luncheon. In his acceptance for the Capital Link Shipping Leadership Award, Captain Panagiotis Tsakos referred to the importance of commercial shipping for the country, highlighting the industry’s immediate and vital need to attract capable, trained personnel. The award aims to honour and recognize the leaders of Greek shipping, who through a long, proven career have decisively contributed to its promotion.

In awarding the prize Professor Costas Grammenos spoke about the illustrious career which established Captain Tsakos as a true leader in the industry, noting that, “Captain Tsakos has worked hard through all his life, to realize all these high achievements. ... Throughout these years he has shown fortitude, persistence, patience, adaptability, tenacity and wisdom - a natural born leader!” The minister for merchant marine, Konstantinos Mousouroulis, congratulating Captain Tsakos also on behalf of Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, added that this recognition is a special honour for himself as well, given that his roots are from the island of Chios. The minister also congratulated Captain Tsakos for the excellent educational work of the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation in Montevideo, and the research and community work of the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation – International Center of Maritime Research & Tradition on Chios. TOPICS AND PRESENTATIONS Nathanael Mauclair, Managing Director, International Listings, NYSE Euronext and Isabella Schidrich, Senior Managing Director - NASDAQ OMX made the Introductory Remarks. Throughout the day, there were presentations from the following: Aline Schuiling, Senior Eurozone Economist, ABN AMRO presented on «Global Economic Outlook».
