Family of John Kennedy ’79; Mayra, Devan and Jan Kennedy (L), Dave Paddock ’77 (M), Shannon Webb ’04 (L), and Alexa Hunter ’04 (L) run to honor at 50th Shamrock Marathon Weekend in Virginia Beach, VA.
A week prior on 11 March, past USNA 16th Company Centurions ran to honor a fellow Centurion LTJG William McIlvaine ’10. Will was lost on March 11, 2013, when his EA-6B went down in Washington state alongside LCDR Alan Patterson ’00 and LT Valerie Cappelaere Delaney ’09. Susan Scheid ’16 aboard DDG109, Benjamin Murphy ’14 in Pensacola, Ashley Gillard Nichelle ’14 near Mobile, Marley Casssels ’10 in D.C., Danielle Steele Beier ’10 with NAOC Ops Team 1 members at McDill AFB, Will Culp ’13, Matt Wilder ’10, Brian Gureck ’13 and Alvaro Rentas ’14, all “gathered” from around the world to run, keep the memory of Will alive, and show support to his family and friends left behind. Additionally, in honor of Memorial Day RTH coordinated events across the U.S. for family, friends, and supporters to connect virtually and in-person. Memorial runs were organized in about 10 locations across the U.S. by volunteer USNA Chapters and local leads. RTH would like to give a special ’thank you’ for all that helped put events together continuing our mission to honor Naval Academy Alumni lost in combat or military operations in service to our Nation. To Honor!

On 4 March 2022 the WSIG joined with the Puget Sound Chapter of USNA Alumni Association to start the celebration of Women’s History Month. Lt Andrea Howard ’15 moderated an inspiring interview of MIDN 1/C Lindsay Ellison ’22 (current Brigade Commander) and MIDN 2/C Faith Brooks ’23 (international studies abroad with the Portuguese Naval Academy first semester of this year). Both MIDN are leaders in the Sexual Harassment and Prevention Education (SHAPE) program and are leaders in the Brigade. It was extremely informative and reassuring that these young women are in leadership roles at USNA and in the fleet. You can replay the session by visiting the following link: https://www.youtube.com
