Spacial Development
The earth is part of a GALAXY. In the galaxy, each star has a fixed position and orbit, so that the galaxy can operate smoothly. Each planet belongs to a galaxy but is special. In the design, the load-bearing wall of the site is used as the sun in the galaxy, that is, the central point, which is designed according to the privacy of different functional areas in accordance with the way of orbit.

Studio IV Project Spring 2023
Commercial Design
Project Background
A partnership of two pediatricians requires a new office facility. Their practice is neighborhood-oriented, dealing with a complete range of pediatric care. Although the atmosphere should be professional and businesslike, the primary concern in terms of ambiance is to create a RELAXED, CHILD APPROPRIATE atmosphere throughout to minimize the typical anxiety that most people, parents and children, feel when entering a doctor’s office.
Design Goal
The client is a young couple with a lovely child. Clients want to incorporate their children’s ideas into the clinic they run to make their clinics more CHILDFRIENDLY. In addition, it is necessary to consider the AMBULATORY MODE in space design. With the development of TECHNOLOGY, there will be certain changes to affect the procedures of the clinic and what is the best design for it.

Concept Development
Couple - The couple wanted their clinic to be child-friendly so that the children would not be afraid to come to the hospital. In the design, children’s fears will be the most important consideration and the design will try to meet the expectation of the client through some INTERACTIVE ACTIVITIES. Children usually have a certain curiosity about external things. Reduce fear by stimulating their sense of engagement.
Kid - The child talked about his interest, and he mentioned that Lego is his favorite activity. Therefore, concept development will focus on the principle of LEGO, that is, BUILDING BLOCKS. This will be integrated into the design as a major aesthetic concept.
Function - In the design, the needs of front of house and back of house need to be fully considered, so the planning of circulation needs to ensure sufficient FLUENCY and flexibility. At the same time, because the clinic still needs part of the office area, it needs to have a certain barrier in front of house and back of house to prevent children from straying into the office area.

Back of House - Workstation

Project Background
The client is a mid-40s male professor at K-State. He has decided to build a new, studio-type residence for his weekday at the near side of campus.
He purchased a lot (80’-0” x 50’-0”) on the south side of Manhattan. He is specifically interested in SUSTAINABLE RESIDENTIAL DESIGN solutions, as well as energy-efficient housing and innovative building systems. He has ordered 3 containers (20’-0” x 8’-0” x 9’ 6”) with the intention to build a two-story house. Extra 80 square feet is able to add to house design.
Design Goal
Providing an as OPEN as possible comfort living space to client. Building a strong connection between interior and exterior natures. As well as, contributing a GREENER WORLD with new house construction trend.

2nd Floor - Work Place
Concept Development

Integrate new TECHNOLOGIES like solar panels, green roofs, and water saving systems into house design.

Avoid the sense of space suppression by minimizing wall partitions while bringing NATURE into the interior.

Shipping containers are new types of homes with high FLEXIBILITY in renovation and transformation. Reuse shipping containers will lead to a greener world.
Technology
Smart Glass Window (designed by Smart Glass Tech) is able to be installed on any application of glass. It provides instant privacy from clear to frosted glass. All glass is controlled by the monitor.

Orientation
More windows on south will lead more energy costs and allow strong sunlight to go into interior spaces. Rotating the house in 25 degree reduces direct sunlight and also sufficient to the house envelope systems.

Permeable Paver
It reduces the stormwater runoff. Providing a driveway while leaving enough space for grass to grow among each pave.
Modular Green Roof
It contributes to sustainable development and also provides a better drainage system. Modular installation needs less maintenance.
Solar Panel Roof
Best tilt degree range in Manhattan, KS is 16 - 46 degree. 30 degree angled, north facing roof.
Water Saving System
Water gutter runs from the lower side of the roof towards the water tank in backyard. By harvesting rainwater, it can be used for farming and reducing water consumption.

Studio VI Project Spring 2024
Commercial Design
Project Background
Kansas State University’s foundation building now needs to be transformed into a dining and lodging brand. In the design, the adapted use of the building is a main consideration and some restrictions are related to the original building. The foundation building has three floors, but the renovation will be only happened on the second and third floor.
Design Goal
This is a group project, our team chose Mediterranean style to fill the gap in Manhattan’s market. In which I am mainly responsible for the design of the spa on the first floor and the leisure area of the second floor accommodation. The design needs to fit the overall style of the concept.

Research Topic
Title: Solution for Circadian Rhythm Issue in Hotel Night Shift Employees by Biophilic Design.
Abstract: The hospitality industry’s demand for 24-hour services poses unique challenges for night shift staff, including disrupted circadian rhythms, fatigue, social isolation, and health issues. This evidence-based design strategies helps to support their well-being and provide an appropriate breakroom for hotel employees.
