Carbon types

HPC carbon as featured on the award winning Lesath AX Power Game

Shimano uses the very latest in carbon fibre technology and state-of-the-art manufacturing processes to make rods suitable for different styles of fishing, requiring unique actions. From the top of the range to the economy rods our rod designers ensure that the very best use of raw materials is always the number one consideration. Whenever you see an XT prefixing a number, say XT100, this denotes the tonnage the carbon fibre used is capable of withstanding in a controlled environment. The higher the number, the stronger the tonnage, and invariably the more costly the carbon. Sometimes for practical fishing reasons rather than commercial restraints it is necessary to blend various tonnage carbon materials or low resin content composite. Shimano Biofibre or glass crystal may also be used, not just to make a more price conscious rod, but to ensure the action and durability of the rod is robust enough to cope with the environment it will be used in. Whatever the type of material used in a Shimano rod blank, you can be 100% confident that it is constructed to cater for the maximum enjoyment and performance, with long term reliability assured.

BAKING PROCESS HPC Carbon

BAKING PROCESS

Glossary

During baking, regular carbon develops an uneven distribution of resin in the structure of the blank.

Adding high pressure during the baking process evenly distributes the resin through the carbon blank. This eliminates weak points. Tests have shown up to 40% increase in blank strength.

A guide to rod features and technology

Aero Guide System Perfect “inline” guide setting to ensure improved distance casting

Balance Weight For the ultimate in personal rod balance! Unscrew the balance weight at the butt section and adapt (by adding or removing small weights) the balance of your rod to suit your personal taste.

Cast Control Grip Round shaped butt end with anti slip to ensure perfect grip during heavy duty casting. Inbuilt balancing system which ensures that vibrations will be diminished. A more responsive & re-active rod is the result.

An exciting innovation in rod materials, it looks and feels great and has many advantages over normal wood. Created by compressing organic raw materials into a carbon like state using over 1000 degrees heat in a vacuum, the resultant material is 100 times stronger than wood and each unique component is 100% moisture resistant in both freshwater and saltwater environments.

Fuji Alconite A strong and durable material, Alconite is the latest in a long line of ceramic rings developed by Fuji. Alconite is so durable that it can be made thinner than any other ring and is strong enough to handle the most demanding fishing styles.

Fuji Hardloy Fuji’s most popular guide produced from a special blend of high grade aluminium oxide. All hardloy guides are diamond polished for decreased line wear, and are permanently mounted to the frame. This results in increased performance, corrosion resistance and greater heat dissipation.

Fuji Low Rider Specifically designed guides for long distance casting, with both spinning reels and bait casting reels. The tapered legs prevents line tangles on the guides, and ensure comfortable fishing

Fuji SiC Silicon Carbide or SiC is one of the most advanced ceramics available today. It’s the hardest and most durable in Fuji’s lineup and because of this, SiC Guides are particularly well suited for braided line.

Fuji Titanium Hardwelded titanium frame guides which are the lightest guides in market. The ideal guide to build lightweight rods.

Fuji Reelseats

Pac Bay Roller Guides

Built to last, Fuji reel seats are desinged with graphite nylon bodies, exclusive S-4 stainless steel hoods, with lined cushioned inserts to offer a lightweight reel seat with superior strength. Uniform design for increased comfort, and with self aligned hoods that provide a solid lockdown on your reel foot which will never back off while fishing.

Perfect big game guide with lightweight one piece frames, machined from solid marine grade aluminum with teflon coated stainless steel bearings. Aluminium side plates for increased guide strength.

This unique feature makes it possible to lock the different sections of a telescopic rod. Doing so will ensure that a telescopic rod can be fished at different lengths.

Power Cork By applying a special surface treatment, Shimano succeeded in making natural cork more durable. Power cork is tactile, ergonomic, lightweight and attractive yet it will not absorb moisture, bacteria and degrade or age cosmetically. Being washable it will last for years and still look like new.

Multi Length By adding or removing a special section, a wide variety of Shimano rods can be fished a 2 different lengths. Doing so will not affect the specific fishing action of the rod. A revolutionary concept in rod blank construction the oval cross sectional design delivers two rod actions in one, firstly the standard vertical casting positions the rod in max power mode. This stiffer dynamic is ideal for long range casting, when a fish is hooked the rod is dropped to the horizontal position producing less rod compression. With a softer action potential hook pulls are reduced if sudden lunges of the fish occur at the net, it’s as simple as that.

Pac Bay Reelseat Machined from marine grade aluminum and anodized to prevent corrosion. Extra thick wall with deep cut threads and heavy duty machined hoods which will provide years of trouble-free use.

Power Leather The world’s cork supply is diminishing, and will eventually vanish altogether or become such a premium price that its use on rod handles will become an extravagant luxury. Of course, there are existing alternative materials such as EVA and Ethafoam. But their feel beneath the hand is generally considered inferior, especially in wet and cold weather. Is there another way? Shimano know there is – and after three years’ development we are now ready to reveal it in the exciting form of Power Leather! Durable, ultra-comfortable and with maximum ‘Wow factor’ looks, we use only high quality hind leather wrapped and stitched to perfection over large cell EVA. The result is maximum comfort and durability, even in sub-zero temperatures. Look out for Power Leather on the Lesath range, and also some Diaflash rods.
