So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
The months of May and June can be summed up as celebrations of family and freedom. During May, we celebrate the blessing of mothers and in June the gift of fathers. We celebrate the nurturing spirit of mothers and the strength and guidance of fathers. We also celebrate freedom - freedom protected by veterans who put their own lives on the line to protect our liberties. We are also reminded that our African enslaved ancestors were not afforded those same liberties even after emancipation. Thus we celebrate our freedom as African Americans on Juneteenth, the day when all of our enslaved ancestors were liberated from slavery. Finally, family and freedom are brought together as we celebrate the accomplishments of our students who have graduated. As a community, their educational accomplishments represent the dreams of our foremothers and fathers who put their bodies on the line for our rights including fighting against separate but unequal schools. As families come together to celebrate the achievements of their students freedom and family are united.
At Shiloh, we are grateful for the outstanding women and men in our congregation who serve not only as mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers, and aunts and uncles in their own families but continue to support youth in our church and the community. We celebrate our veterans and lift up Brother Vernon Henderson who was honored by the City of
Maple Heights and the American Legion on Memorial Day for his service. He served as Grand Marshall of the city's festivities alongside his wife Sister Winifred. We celebrate students who will be promoted from Pre-K to Kindergarten, from elementary to middle school, and from high school to college. We also celebrate our college students who continue to excel. I specifically shout out Chloe Campbell Lee who made the Dean's List her first year at Loyola University, Chicago, and Jada Striefel who is poised to complete her college education in the fall, while also serving the community as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. These young ladies make Shiloh proud and follow in the tradition of greatness at Shiloh!
Finally, I am especially proud of our Men's Ministry for their upcoming forum on men ' s mental health, our Women's ministry for the powerful workshop with the women of Rainbow Terrace, our Outreach Ministry for their continued efforts to feed the needy in our community, our Educational Board for the work in adopting Alfred Benesch School, and our deacons, trustees, Christian Ed, and music ministries who labor every week to make Shiloh an outstanding place of family and freedom!
Because of Calvary,
How well do you know Brother Vernon Henderson?
Raised in Cleveland, Bro Henderson is a product of the Cleveland City School, graduating from John Adams High School He was raised in Shiloh Baptist Church and remained here his entire life During his younger days at Shiloh, he has met some pretty amazing people, such as Leontyne Price, Gilbert Moses, and his bride of 59 years, Winifred
How did he know that Sis. Henderson was 'the one"?
"I was dared to ask her out one Sunday after church." I was dared by my friend to ask her out one Sunday after church. He wanted to take his girl, and he wanted to double date. . I asked, and she accepted. We all went to Whitmore's BBQ. After a 3month courtship, they started the journey called Life together. It has blossomed into 59 years together, and 4 children.
What would he like for us to know?
During the draft, Bro Henderson was drafted into the Army, but ended up signing to serve with the US Navy During his stint in the Navy, he served as a Medical Corpsman in Quantico, Virginia He worked with the FBI Academy, the Marine Officers School, and the brig (that's the military prison!)
After returning to Cleveland, Bro. Henderson worked for the City of Cleveland, obtained his Operating Engineers License, and finally retired from the US Postal Service.
Where can I find love that never changes Smiles that are true and always just the same, Caring not how the fierce tempest rages, Willing ever to shield my honored name?
This I find at home, only with Mother, Who cares for me with patient tenderness; She from every human pain would rather Save me, and drink the dregs of bitterness.
If on life's way I happen to flounder, My true thoughts should be of Mother dear, She is the rock that ne'er rifts asunder, The cry of her child, be it far or near.
This is love wonderful beyond compare; It is God's choicest gift to mortal man; You, who know Mother, in this thought must share, For, she, of all, is Angel of your Clan.
My Mother is black, loveliest of all; Yes, she is as pure as the new made morn; Her song of glee is a clear rythmic call To these arms of love to which I was born.
I shall never forget you, sweet Mother, Where'er in life I may happen to roam; Thou shalt always be the Fairy Charmer To turn my dearest thoughts to things at home.
Dear Black Man:
Fatherhood is but a piece of our lives. A very unique and tailored piece that we can share in common. Yes, I’m aware that fatherhood is difficult. But so is being yourself. Oddly enough, fatherhood is just that – being yourself! Be mindful that there are little ones watching your every move. Not to judge you, but to be just like you You are their example
So the challenge for us becomes, what do we want our young ones to see?
We want our young ones to see our smiles, and hear our laughter. We want them to see us work. We want them to see us think through problems. They need to see us struggle, think and push through until successful. We want them to see us caring for others We want them to see us cry, and feel, and understand We want them to see us rest
We want them to see how we handle frustrating situations. We want them to see us build things. We want them to see us take care of our homes, cut the grass, plant flowers. We want them to see us love their mothers. We want them to see us being us
Coming from a son, who is now a father of three, I can tell you, the perfect dad is the one who is always striving to be himself, and be his best self in front of his children.
Be yourself Get better everyday Expose yourself to new things so you can help expose your young ones
And stop, I repeat, stop beating yourself up.
You are amazing. You are loved. You are strong. And you will be a great father. Keep working at it Keep working at it Keep working at it, and don’t let anyone try and take it away from you
A father’s love is in high demand and you have what it takes.

"
For God is not unjust; he will not overlook your work and the love that you showed for his sake in serving the saints, as you still do."
Hebrews 6:10

Who can you invite to attend the concert?
Have you been looking for a way to invite your friends to worship with you? Why not start with a casual event.
A casual church activity is a great opportunity to invite friends to church and it will be more casual than a Sunday sermon.
Ideally, they will see other people they know or they will meet others with similar interests. Church functions provide attendees a chance to talk about things outside of church.
a time of sharing stories of Black resilience, resistance, liberation, and joy.
Please pray for our bereaved, sick and shut in.
Praise the Lord, oh my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
