A Footwear Industry and Institute
The design braces the art of shoemaking which involves exhibiting the design, methodology and machines used in the process as well as an institute cum factory of shoes.
The changing gestures and postures involved in the process of shoe making define the nature of space they require. Hence the varying levels at which the process takes place has been used to establish a specific kind of design for the shoemakers. The programs are arranged according to the public and private spaces and keeping in mind the sequence of procedure in the manufacturing. The expanse of the site is utilized by creating courtyards, garden space and large steped platforms.

BINARIES
Deep and Shallow Earthwork
Conceptual Sketches
Guide: Kimaya Keluskar and Apoorva Iyengar
Deep Earthwork
The darkness with the increasing depth, variety of layers with unique textures, the flow dissipating and extreme denseness as we move down the earth. These are some of the aspects of a deep earthwork as a landscape element.
A huge bridge of rocks which leads one down on moving ahead establishes a sense of shadow shelter of rocks. The growing roots filtering through the rocks end with hanging thin strands shows the depth that roots have moved through.
Shallow Earthwork
The merging light with subtle shadows of undulations, variety of substances with unique textures and colours, the flow standing on the surface of land. These are some of the aspects of a shallow earthwork as a landscape element. The disappearance of a few rocks forms a continuous niche allows a slow stagnating flow with soft gradient of shadow. This arrangement of minute undulation in landscape creates a shallow earthwork.

26 Ways of Seeing Bhopal
Third Year Srudy trip Exhibition 2022
Collaborative work with 4 students
Like any other city the landscape of Bhopal is habituated with animals, however the historical sites and the old city offers diverse vistas. The study focussed on seeing the landscape through the perspective of various animals of Bhopal by mapping their movements and relationships with their surroundings. It attempts at constructing the day journey of an animal through their lens; various textures and other details. There is an enormous play of scale where one creature sees a tiny stone, another at the same time sees it as a mountain.
Simple Intricacies
Through the rough cleave of tree bark, the ant moves into the roots covered with grass, looking up to the mountainous stone. Reaching on its top it gets a glance of other mates trailing inside a flower which seems nothing less than a cave to them. Passing through which it crawls into the dense forest of grass looking at its anthill. Steadily climbs the hill and enters the deep dark home with cavities dug at various levels and resides in a space of intricacies.
Dark Vision
Hanging on trees with their wings draped around their bodies like cloaks, bats watch the whole city upside down. In the dark night, it flies around Van Vihar to find its prey; with sensitive vision and accurate predictions they snatch the night insects.
As the sun rises, they return back to the river edge and spends the rest of the day sleeping and hanging downwards.
The study was exhibited in the form of a foldable hanging book depicting the journey of the animals through tracing their paths and their views
REPRESENTING THE SACRED
Chidambaram : The make of the South Indian Temple Town
KRVIA Third year Study Trip Exhibition and Documentation
Collaborative Work with the Batch
The Third Year study of institutions focused on understanding how the architecture and spatial systems of the temple town of Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu crested and structured a community. It examined the roles and functions of various institutions within the town, considering both their programmatic and architectural aspects, and their intersections with daily life.
The temple town of Chidambaram is located 250 kms south of Chennai, recognised for The Nataraja Temple and the chariot festival. The city plan is representative of a typical South Indian Temple Town, with a central temple complex and concentric rings of community-based streets around.
This exhibition probes into one of the vital governing aspects of a South Indian temple town, Detail. The form of the temple is understood through its intricate ornament along with a comprehension of its tectonics with respect to its historical context. Additionally, the fabric of the city it is situated in is delineated through the same lens, producing an explicit installation of the diverse town.
The adopted mode of representation of the exhibition is through the creation of a fabric. An elaborate composition of the setting of the town is generated through the stitching of small details of the built form of the city, thus revealing a distorted God’s eye view of a South Indian temple town. The fabric helps locate the people and stories of the town therefore bringing out its identity.
The fabric of the town attempts to simulate the essence of the temple by means of its colour. The colour chosen to render the town emanates from the colours of the Gopuram. Additionally, the variation within the different colours of the built form of the town also influence the palette chosen for representation. The colour helps give character to the town by amalgamating the temple, its details, its people, and the fabric that they sit in.
REPRESENTING THE SACRED
Chidambaram : The make of the South Indian Temple Town
KRVIA Third year Study Trip Exhibition and Documentation Collaborative Work with the Batch
The plan of the Temple Complex is surrounded with temple activities and rituals. The four Gopurams lead to the different tem
ples within the complex which comprises the mai Natraja temple, 100 pillar temple, Shivgami temple, the nine Shivling Temple and the stepwell. The periphery is covered with vegetation which serves as a buffer between the city an the temple complex.
The model of the Thillai Natraj Temple shows the intricate architecturural details of the structure and arrangement of all the temples in the complex. The suspended roof allows to view the interiors of the main temple. The level variations and the variety of column design appear to be the significant elements defining the space.

MADARSA : EDUCATION ADN EMPOWERMENT
Domestic Dwelling
Material Exlploration
Guide:
Rohan ChavanThe design process started with the idea of verb- “To Light” and and noun exploration - “ Of Time”. The verb exploration helped in deriving the the form whereas the noun was for deciding a site and a suitable program. The lining of light through the soil blocks as an inspiration the structure of Madarsa is designed with islamic element of jaalis. The entramce has a curved inward gesture intending to invite people inside the knowledge hub.
INVISIBLE CITIES
Zenobia
Conceptual Sketches and Model Guide: Ainsely Lewis
The city of Zenobia is set on dry terrain, it stands on high pilings, and the houses are of bamboo and zinc, with many platforms and balconies placed on stilts at various heights, crossing one another, linked by ladders and hanging sidewalks, surmounted by cone-roofed belvederes.
The design process began with illustrating the description on the city Zenobia with eventually making its model and capturing the essence of light and shadow on it. Sketching out the close ups of the model and drawing its plan and section helped in visualizing the spaces in between the objects.
WAYS OF SEEING I
The Pillow
Workshop on detail study of an object Guide: teja Gavankar
The workshop involved the intensive and detailed study of the selected object through various lenses and methods of seeing and drawing. The use of different techniques like one line drawing, paint splashes etc. enabled to explore the materials as well as illustrate thoughts into drawings.
The object selectected here is “The Pillow” whose wide range of properties are illustrated and the concept of änxiety” is merged to get the final graphic. The chaos within becomes a part of us like a shadow. Thecurves of uncertainty and fading interest in daily routine screams silently.
WAYS OF SEEING II
Grill, windows and Layers Behind It
The diverse grids blanket the facade, securing and sometimes, embellishing the fenestration, where there is a hint of camouflage blindness and folds of surface. A spread , a blot, a pattern capturestories layering behind these grills and with every layer a unique element is added, intensifying the events.
The creation of space between the layers allow different activities to be performed. It becomes a home for potted plants to evolve a gather space and can even serve as a storage lattice.
The variety of interactions with grill brings out the nature and mood of the people living beyond it. The expression of relaxing, happiness suffering all comes through it. In the end it all comes as an assembly of grometry which symbolizes the emotions and perceptions.
A POINT(S) OF VIEW
A Workshop on Anamorphosis
The workshop focuses on Anamorphosis art. Anamorphosis, by definition, is an ingenious perspective technique that gives a distorted image of the subject represented in a picture when seen from the usual viewpoint but so executed that if viewed from a particular angle the distortion disappears and the image in the picture appears normal. Its construction is followed by a manual process of mapping and tracing the projections over multiple planes and eventually fine tuning the legibility of the graphic.
The technique empowers flat surfaces with three dimensional properties. Athough at the end it’s all an illusion.
CONTRASTING ARCHITECTURE
Metabolism and Minimalism
Abstracting the Design Features
Guide: Rohan Shivkumar
An art journal comparing the two contrasting movements through its unique architectural statements or elements. On one hand metabolism comprises of repetition, modular and flexible structure some inspired from living organisms whereas minimilism is about simple geometry and lines, symmetry and asymmetry. Various structures with oppostite visual elements are brought together to understand their meanings and their abstract illustrations make it easier to emphasize on the differences and key features.

MODEL MAKING Form and Material Explorations
SELF REPLICATING TESSELATIONS
The project involved the study and eventually designing of space filling and self replicating modules. The created module is then brought together to form a children’s playground which experiments the scale, geometry and the surfaces in the spaces. The shape here used to design the dynamic form is Cuboctahedron.
SHELL MODEL
The course involved the study of the model making process of Heinz Isler. The methodology comprised of hanging a piece of cloth that is dipped in concrete mix (here POP, fixed at several points making the form tensile which when flipped on drying becomes a form in compression.
MILD STEEL DOG LEGGED STAIRCASE
The study of dog legged staircase from case studies and taking fire staircase as an example the model was made. The joineries and various techniques of constructing the staircase was explored.
The process of “welding” was intensively learnt and used in the process. A central hollow stringer with welded treads and the landing supported on rectangular frame with four stanchions brings together the complete staircase.
RCC TWO WHEELER PARKING STAND
The model making excercise was the part of Theory of Structures course which involved the designing, resolution and execution of a bicycle stand. The hands on work on construction was to understand the process of forming RCC structures.
The shuttering is made from wooden blocks and for columns sunboard is used to pour in the concrete mix. Reinforcements for the roof and ground are made from metal mesh.
The overall design allows entry from three sides and the other sloped wall creates a niche for shade and storage a s well as helps in preventing the stagnation of water on roof.
TENSIGRITY BRIDGE
The course involved making a 900mm span bridge working on tensigrity using watchmaker sticks, pins and thread. Except the node of the structure no other elements come in coontact with each other and are completely spaced out by the threads in tension.
THE NAKED HOUSE
Shigeru Ban’s The Naked House is a design comprising of skin and framework. The linear frames gives a touch of minimalism whereas the translucent skin gives a subtle hint of the interiors and allows the flow of light accross it. This model replicates his structure to study the light shadow and the flow of the form as it is a linear building with mobile rooms.
