According to the Elderly Condition Survey Report in Taiwan, about 80% of the elderly individuals living alone engage in watching television as their leisure activity and around 60% of the elderly have limited interaction with social groups.

Lack of social connections may result in lack of physical activity, leading to heart diseases and diabetes. Besides, loneliness can lead to various psychiatric disorders like depression, sleep problems and Alzheimer's disease, affecting the mental health of elderly individuals. To delve into the reasons behind the situation, we conducted the questionnaire having 60 responses from the seniors and was distributed through various Facebook senior clubs, LINE senior groups.

Based on the survey and trial runs, we identified two major improvement points: Time: Most elderly individuals, due to their habit of cooking dinner themselves, prefer the activities to end by 5 p.m., allowing them time to go grocery shopping.

Physical Capacity: Considering the local weather conditions, seniors tend to avoid the hot sun and prefer going out after 3 p.m.

LINE is the commonly used app among the elderly. It allows a more convenient registration process for the seniors. Also, we provide necessary information and viewing of all route details of interest.

In designing the LINE chatbot and configuring the UI, we focused on selecting the most crucial features. To cater to the elderly users, we increased font size and enhanced contrast to improve legibility of the interface for the elderly, making it easier to read for the seniors.

Benefits for other stake holders

This service project collaborates with National Cheng Kung University, offering unprecedented course choices for university students. It guides students to break free from their peer environment, providing opportunities to learn how to interact with the elderly and take good care of them through service and engage in meaningful exchanges.

University students have more flexible class schedules, making daytime availability for guiding more convenient. Additionally, this project can take into account the educational significance for students by introducing local culture, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of the school's community and enhancing their oral presentation skills.

Based on group-leading experiences, even young individuals, when traveling together, find it challenging to relax and engage in conversation. This is even more pronounced when it comes to seniors, especially as they age, their thoughts become sensitive and conservative. Consequently, it is difficult for them to form groups with strangers of different backgrounds to achieve the social interaction patterns that seniors

desire. On the other hand, seniors' outings require companionship to alleviate concerns about potential risks and inconveniences. Your service should further consider the psychological challenges and situations that seniors may need to overcome as they age.

It is essential to thoroughly understand their likes and interests beforehand, especially those attending for the first time. Seniors who are volunteers are often more willing to engage in intergenerational activities like this, and by involving them in the initial trials, it becomes easier to attract more participants.

| Techniques learned through this project Survey design We have identified the following improvements to enhance willingness to fill out the survey: Place personal information section at the end of the survey and provide comprehensive descriptions of questions and answers.

Also, we changed open-ended questions by converting all responses into multiple-choice options for easy selection.

Target the online communities of the specific demographic and organize a lottery as an incentive.

In the process of interviewing seniors, it is challenging to extract genuine answers within a short timeframe. Some seniors may be hesitant to participate, making it difficult for us to convince them to engage in the interview.

Building rapport with seniors through casual conversation and asking questions, allowing for a better understanding of their lifestyle.

Recruitment for Testing

At the beginning, many seniors are not willing to participate in unfamiliar activities.

So, we decided to visit local Buddhist organizations in Tainan and design routes that align with their interests. As a result, the success rate of recruitment increased.

The number of student suicide cases is on the rise, and schools can provide numerous psychological counseling resources to reduce the suicide rate. However, based on feedback from school counselors and student forums, we have found that the majority of students, even when in need of assistance, are reluctant to reserve the free psychological counseling services at school.

Impact & Reflection We invited target users and counselors to evaluate our service.

They expressed that compared to traditional counseling application systems, the interface, resembling that of a mobile game, makes users more interested in understanding the application process. Additionally, they are more willing to attempt psychological assessments to gain insights into their mental well-being.

I am delighted to have proposed a solution for long-standing campus issues this time, bringing more happiness to fellow student users.

The target vehicle is the KAWASAKI NINJA series. The design of this bike symbolizes the agility of a ninja, with its upturned tail and protruding fuel tank. The combination of sharp and agile elements with delicate curves reminds me of a dragonfly which is light and elegant.

Light Design Structural Thickness Analysis

The shape was designed to cover the trace left from the manufacturing process. To keep the plastic material from shrinking during the production, the thickness is basically equal. Also, I conducted thickness analysis to identify areas of thickness and thinness of the parts to eliminate any flaw caused during the production process.

Reflection /

This project was completed during my junior year in the industrial design course. I fully applied the Solidworks skills taught in the computer modeling class. In the past modeling courses, I was mainly taught to build models to achieve the ideal shape. However, this project taught me about the practical limitations of various processes. I gained an understanding that, when designing the appearance of plastic products, many considerations must be given to issues in the process of demolding. Therefore, many design drafts, after software analysis, were found to be unfavorable for mass production.

In addition, many of my failed drafts were due to dimensional tolerance issues, making it impossible to fit onto the factory-standard lamp base. I realized the necessity of multiple tests with �D printed prototypes to find the most suitable tolerance.

In the future, I should conduct field tests.

Since the car lights will be installed on a moving motorcycle, if there is more time, I would like to install the �D printed prototypes on the mobile motorcycle to test the stability of the headlights and their functionality under continuous vibration conditions.

Challenge Climbers typically rely on rivers to obtain water. However, their lack of experience may pose risks to life. Also, extreme climates result in significant variability in the extraction of river water.

Biomimicry Solution

Water collection gear for climbers and mountaineers

Stenocara gracilipes, a beetle species living in the desert, survives by harvesting water from fog through specialized structures on its shell. This unique feature allows the beetle to extract the moisture from the dry environment. In academic research, a mesh material with specially weaving patterns that mimics the beetles’ shell was practically implemented on mountains in Taiwan to collect water for farming.

To validate the fog-collection efficiency of the mesh. At the mountain above 2500 meters, two nets of the same area but with different shape (Cylinder/Square) were set up.

The cylindrical mesh exhibited superior water collection efficiency which meets the basic emergency need. This finding aligns with existing studies of the mesh.

Reflection The mountainous ecosystems in Taiwan have always been a haven for many challengers. However, news of mountain accidents continues to emerge. Most survivors succeed in getting rescued because they have sufficient water sources and stay in place.

While cylindrical mesh materials have been tested, it is still necessary to create an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) to assess the practicality of the product through real-world testing.

This has led me to contemplate alternative methods of obtaining water. Since childhood, I have had a keen interest in biomimicry design. Realizing the dream of addressing water retrieval issues using biomimetic mesh solutions is an exciting prospect.

The production of this product owes thanks to a well-established backpack factory in Tainan. I appreciate the owner's son for patiently discussing the customized design and manufacturing process with me. The meticulous sewing details meet professional product specifications, giving me the tangible sensation of designing a product from start to finish for the first time.

Rescue products still require further on-site verification. In the future, I will conduct more realistic tests on this product.
