The Freeman 32 with a centre wheel house features 6 berths with a forward and aft cabin. Manufactured between 1970 and 1973 and based on the popular Freeman 30. A current owner requested a larger cockpit space for socilaising, very similar to the Freeman 23 layout.

The first stage was to remove the aft cabin windows followed by the aft cabin roof and sides.

By cutting along the bottom window edge we were able to get a straight edge for the new sides which will eventually be capped.
The aft bulkhead had to be trimmed to suit the required space, this was showing signs of rotting.

By trimming and moving the aft cabin deck outwards; more space was made available. Adding fibreglass reinforcement to the rear corners to bridge the gap finished off the sides.

With the main part of the bulkhead removed a metal frame work skeleton was installed to compensate for strength.

By cutting and varnishing Freeman ply wood and installing as side panels the cockpit begins to take shape.
The trimmed down aft cabin walls were capped with rubbing strake wood to finish off in a ‘Freeman way’ and varnished with clear high gloss marine varnish.

With the aft cabin removed the original canopy that dropped from the rear of the wheel house to the aft cabin roof had to be changed. The new canopy, with its large windows and side access doors provides a light cockpit that is easy to access.
