• Want to make lifelong friends with young people from other parts of the world, boost their cultural understanding as well as their social confidence.

• Wish to sample life in a boarding school, perhaps prior to starting at a UK school in September.

“All of them gave me encouragement and taught me a lot of things.”

Our highly reputable and well-established English programme encourages students to:

• Practise the language they already know

• Consolidate new language.

Pre-IGCSE/GCSE Course

Our Pre-IGCSE / GCSE Summer programme gives international students who are starting (or thinking about starting) IGCSE or GCSE courses the academic support they need to acquire skills vital to success.

THIS COURSE IS SUITABLE FOR STUDENTS WHO:

• Want to prepare for I/GCSE Courses.

• Have a good level of English already and want to challenge themselves a little more.

• Are aged between 13 and 17.

• Have a CEFR level of B1 and above.

Students choose four of the following subjects to study: biology, chemistry, physics, maths, further maths, business studies, ICT/computer science, history, geography, English and English literature*, and receive 6-7 lessons in each per week, plus lessons in drama. Lessons introduce the types of content and skills each subject will need at IGCSE/GCSE level. However, students do not need to be working towards I/GCSEs to benefit from or enjoy the course.

“All the teachers were very good at teaching, and it made me confident for the GCSE”

For example, in science lessons, students conduct experiments, learn to describe their methods clearly, and the conclusions they reached, which will be important for their exam courses. In history, students look at evidence, how to examine sources and write up and explain their findings - skills that are fundamental, irrespective of the actual historical period to be studied.

• Up to 22.5 hours of tuition per week.

• Usual class size of 8 students.

• Highly qualified and experienced teachers.

• Presentations in assembly.

• Full programme of sports, afternoon and evening activities.

• Experience of practical science.

“These teachers not only made me enjoy the subject more, but their friendly nature helped me adapt earlier.”

Throughout, students develop their use of the English language appropriate for studying and for life in the UK generally. Students learn to analyse texts, develop research skills, and present conclusions and results orally, in debates or in written form. Drama lessons help increase fluency and confidence in public speaking.

Students can attend a course for 6 weeks or for 2, 3 or 4 weeks and study the same four subjects for the whole time, or choose different subjects in different two-week sections. Topics do not repeat.

“All the teachers were so nice and they were all lovely people, and they assisted me with whatever help I needed.”

IGCSE/GCSE Mid-Course Booster

This summer programme is designed to give students, who have completed Year 10, a confident and successful start to their final IGCSE/GCSE year by revisiting material covered in the last year, as well as looking ahead to Year 11.

THIS COURSE IS SUITABLE FOR STUDENTS WHO:

• Want some extra preparation for school term GCSE/IGCSE courses.

Lessons consolidate and revise key areas of content and skills from Year 10, boosting motivation and reducing stress.

Our small classes allow clarification and further explanation where individual students need it. In the sciences, understanding of important topics and, in all subjects, the use of practice papers and questions, allows students to improve their exam technique by identifying keywords and meeting the exam criteria.

Students can attend a course for 6 weeks or for 2, 3 or 4 weeks and study the same four subjects for the whole time, or choose different subjects in different two-week sections. Topics do not repeat.

• Up to 22.5 hours of tuition per week.

• Usual class size of 8 students.

• Highly qualified and experienced teachers.

• Presentations in assembly.

• Full programme of sports, afternoon and evening activities.

Science, Strategy and Society

Our Science, Strategy and Society course is an immersive, project-based programme that challenges 15-17 year old students to think like future leaders.

You’ll explore how ground-breaking discoveries in science and engineering are transformed into innovative products and services. Through hands-on experiments, team challenges, and dynamic debates, you’ll develop your scientific knowledge, business acumen, and critical thinking skills.

This is your chance to turn theory into practice, working on real-world problems in areas like bio-innovation, sustainable energy, and food science. You will also significantly enhance your academic writing and communication skills, preparing you not just for university applications, but for a lifetime of intellectual curiosity and success.

SAMPLE MODULE: FOOD SCIENCE AND NUTRITION

This module explores the scientific principles behind food production and consumption, linking directly to global issues like food security and health.

STEM Component: The lab will become a food science hub. You will perform experiments on food chemistry, such as testing for different nutrients (sugars, starches, proteins) in various food types. You could also investigate food preservation techniques or try to develop a new, healthier food product from scratch.

Business Component: The team project here is to take your food science product and turn it into a viable business. You’ll need to think about branding, packaging, the supply chain, and how to price your product to be both profitable and accessible to your target market.

Critical Thinking / ToK (Theory of Knowledge) Component: The module concludes with discussions on the ethics of food production, including the use of pesticides and genetic engineering in agriculture. You will explore the link between diet, health, and social inequality. This is an excellent opportunity to discuss how personal knowledge and cultural beliefs influence food choices.

Academic Writing Task: You will write a 750-word reasoned opinion piece for a science publication or an online magazine. The article should analyse a recent food trend or technology (e.g., labgrown meat, vertical farming) and present a balanced, evidence-based view on its pros and cons. The task focuses on structuring a compelling and wellsupported argument for a broader public audience.

“All of the teachers gave me encouragement and taught me lots of things.”

OTHER POSSIBLE MODULES: BIO-INNOVATION AND HEALTH, OR SUSTAINABLE ENGINEERING AND ENERGY

The module offered will be subject to teacher availability.

THIS COURSE IS SUITABLE FOR STUDENTS WHO:

• Are looking for essential study skills for A Level and IB preparation.

• Are aged between 15-17.

• Have a CEFR level of B2 and above.

• This is a 2 week programme, for a maximum of 15 students.

• Up to 22.5 hours of tuition per week.

• Presentations in assembly.

• Full programme of sports, afternoon and evening activities.

• Wednesday 8 July to Wednesday 22 July.

• Further weeks only possible if schedule 1 sells out (15 places).

Feedback

We know how important the decision is to send your child abroad, and at Sherborne we work tirelessly to ensure every student has a truly fantastic experience — as reflected in the words of our parents, students and agents.

SUMMARY FROM BRITISH COUNCIL INSPECTION IN 2024

The school provides its students with appropriate pastoral care. The school offers a range of comfortable, conveniently located accommodation, which is very well managed. The leisure programme is very well designed and delivered to meet the needs of the students. Care of students, Accommodation and Leisure opportunities and Safeguarding under 18’s are areas of strength.

FROM PARENTS OF STUDENTS ON OUR SUMMER 2025 COURSES

“Our child really had a great time at Sherborne with all the lovely people around her (teachers, classmates, supervisors and so on). For her it was a great opportunity to learn and grow in so many aspects. She enjoyed staying with you so much and is still delighted by her experience she gained over the weeks.”

“This summer, my child had a wonderful time at the summer school, and it left a profound impression on her. From the curriculum to the diverse activities, she talked non-stop sharing all her experiences with me. She also made good friends here, met caring teachers, and showed daily progress in her personal growth. Over these two weeks of learning and life, she has grown so much, both in maturity and physically. I believe these are the most valuable gains.”

“We are truly grateful for all the care and support our son received throughout his stay in the UK.”

“I also want to especially thank you for welcoming and caring for my daughter with such love during the program. She returned home healthy and very happy, with new friends from all over the world, who have contributed to broadening her perspective on diversity and inclusion.”

His experience at Sherborne seems to have been deeply rewarding. He spoke with great enthusiasm about his lessons — English, Maths, Science, and more — and it’s clear that he has gained real confidence in learning through English. He also made many friends in the boarding house, and even the food, which we were initially a little concerned about, turned out to be something he genuinely enjoyed. He said it was delicious and was clearly very happy.

FROM STUDENTS ON OUR SUMMER 2025 COURSES

“Over the past seven weeks, every staff member has treated me with kindness, support and respect. I truly appreciate the positive environment they created for me.”

“There were so many talented guys there, and everyone looked so happy. The most favourite part of the summer school is class. Teachers are so kind that they teach me kindly, gently. Anyway, it’s definitely my best summer school.”

“I really enjoyed Sherborne International School. It is actually like normal school during the day but I also enjoyed night activities, sports and weekend trips. It was so cool and I want to come back here again. Thank you to all of the staff for giving us some amazing memories.”

“Sherborne was a very calm and peaceful town, and I was able to spend my time there happily. The school was clean, and I really enjoyed the time I’d walk with my friends to and from classes. Thank you very much for the three weeks!”

“Not only did Sherborne improve my language skills, but it also became a step toward independence, and I felt like I was getting better at managing my daily life — even with some help from those around me.”

FROM AGENTS OF STUDENTS ON OUR SUMMER 2025 COURSES

“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Sherborne Boys, to you personally, and to the entire summer school team. My students, who I sent to your program, were extremely happy. They greatly enjoyed both the academic and social aspects of the school.”

“Your programme always demonstrates the best quality of this country’s summer courses.”

Health + Welfare

The health and wellbeing of every student is our highest priority, alongside their academic development. We maintain high staffing levels within each house, with all staff trained in First Aid and dedicated to supporting students’ physical and mental wellbeing.

Our support structure is further enhanced by our experienced Matron team, who provide 24/7 care for students who are sick or require assistance. Their extensive boarding experience and genuine kindness ensure students feel supported, safe, and comfortable throughout their stay.

To guarantee that we can offer the highest standard of care and support, we require parents to disclose any pre-existing health conditions, allergies, or special educational needs (SEN) at the point of booking. We appreciate your cooperation in providing this essential information, (please see our Terms and Conditions for further information).

Our commitment is to create a secure, family-like environment where all students feel supported, enabling them to focus fully on their course.

“They helped me with lots of stuff and my mental health. Every Housemistress was so nice, kind, funny and amazing. I will miss them.”

“I want to say a big thank you to all the house staff for letting me have the best summer. Even though I was very nervous, all the staff were really polite and made me have a comfortable time. I really enjoyed being with house staff and I won’t forget this kindness. Thank you sooo much for 7 weeks!!”

Our supporting co-curricular programme enriches the student experience and allows opportunities for personal development, socialising and further learning through visiting historic sites and nearby places of interest. Our pastoral programme is second to none and students are well looked after by our welcoming and attentive team of boarding staff.

Spring GCSE/IGCSE + A Level Revision Courses

For over 30 years, Sherborne International has been empowering students to excel in their exams through our highly successful Spring Revision Courses.

These courses are designed to increase the knowledge and exam confidence of students preparing for GCSE and IGCSE or A Level examinations and is open to both native and non-native speakers, with both day and boarding options available.

Students choose 3 subjects to focus on for each week of the course they sign up for, and we tailor the lessons to match their examination board, for a total of 30 lessons each week - 10 hours per subject.

A Level students are able to study fewer subjects per week by choosing the supervised study option on the booking form and fees are then adjusted accordingly.

PERSONALISED PREPARATION

Prior to the course, we ask all students to provide detailed information about their exams, predicted grades, specific areas for focus, bring their notes and files, and inform us of any learning challenges or Examination Access Arrangements (EAAs). This allows us to tailor classes and content to individual needs as well as make the necessary adjustments.

EXPERT-LED + RESULTS-DRIVEN

Students benefit from our experienced educators who thoroughly consolidate knowledge, clarify key topics, and effectively tackle specific problem areas. Continuous testing and personalised feedback are integral to developing crucial exam techniques. While the course demands dedication, students consistently report a significant increase in confidence, a clearer understanding of subject matter, and a tangible improvement in their exam prospects. This intensive programme provides a valuable academic boost at a pivotal stage in their educational journey. Class sizes are small, so students benefit from significant individual attention compared to their regular schools.

“I wanted to thank you for the wonderful revision experience our son had! He truly loved those two weeks and found them very helpful. He said all the staff and teachers were fantastic too!”

THIS COURSE WILL BE IDEAL FOR STUDENTS WHO:

• Want to achieve their potential examination results in their chosen subject

• Want to learn important revision techniques

Tailored Support Across Exam Boards

Our experienced teachers are adept at navigating the nuances between various exam boards.

Sciences and Mathematics: For subjects, such as these, with only minor syllabus and question type differences, our teachers cater to all students, highlighting key variations and providing exam board-specific practice questions.

GEOGRAPHY

We cover topics common to all GCSE/IGCSE specifications, including the Physical Environment, the Human Environment, and Geographical Skills and Fieldwork. Time will also be allocated for individual case studies.

ENGLISH LITERATURE

This module provides an unparalleled opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of both literature papers, covering Shakespearean plays, 19th-century novels, modern prose or drama, and unseen and anthology poetry. Sessions focus on all assessment objectives and the skills necessary for higher grades. Students receive specific input for all core texts, and we foster an interactive environment for individual questions. We also dedicate time to improving essay writing skills and crafting effective responses across all genres.

HISTORY

We request that topics are submitted in advance to precisely tailor classes to individual needs. A core focus for all will be mastering exam technique and crafting high-quality responses.
