During the year of remote and blended learning I gained new technological experience and extended my education.

“

With less pupils being in school, it has been a great opportunity to get to know each other much better.

“

During the first lockdown in Qatar, I decided to purchase a keyboard to re-teach myself how to play the piano as I used to play when I was younger. I have really enjoyed the process of getting back into it and will definitely continue playing in the future.

“

A bit more free time to spend with the family at home. We now have movie nights more often.

“

Due to the circumstances and the subsequent need for the extended use of technology, I believe online learning has proven to be a great opportunity to improve computer literacy. Both my pupils and I are confidently using a range of websites, programs and platforms that were brand new to us a year ago and these new skills will only be beneficial in the future.

“

Spending so much time with my family has really helped me connect with them in a way that always seems elusive amongst the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It has allowed us all time and space to appreciate one another...and to show our respective cooking skills!!

Being able to adapt to change and me being able to stay safe the entire time.

“

I have become more confident, I am now able to speak into the laptop’s microphone without being scared and am able to share my thoughts.

“

It taught me how to be patient.

I learned to communicate better with my teachers through online lessons.

“

The positive experience that I had was learning about Microsoft Teams.

“

It was difficult in the first couple of months but I gradually got used to the new routines. Attending school is much better though as I can concentrate more.

The beginning of the school year was hard for both teachers and students but because of all our hard work I feel we have had the most amazing and unbelievable year ever.

“

I got closer to people in general.

A new appreciation for teachers as well as an understanding of how important school is.

In my first year of Senior School I managed to keep a positive attitude throughout the whole time.

“

Teachers have been great and have remained available to be contacted at all times.

“

I learnt to become more independent and to manage my workload.

Despite not being able to come into school every day my work has been progressing smoothly.

It has become easier to upload and share work with Teams than before the pandemic.

“

I really enjoyed being able to work with my class friends in a fun online environment.

“

Overall I prefer blended learning because I get a chance to see my friends rather than being isolated at home.

It has been good for me because I have been able to work at my own pace throughout the year and get good grades.

I enjoyed being able to complete school work on my own time and put a structure to the day. It taught me responsibility and perseverance.

“

I was able to spend more time improving my personal wellbeing and focus a lot more on my mental health.

Blended learning helped me to get better at using a laptop in a safe environment at home and at school.

“

I was new to the Senior school and had to adapt to the new environment through blended learning, making new friends along the way. I also enjoyed having the opportunity to be an independent learner and to appreciate the important things in life such as spending time with my family.

“

It has taught me to make more effective use of my time.

I learned to adapt and to be more resourceful.

“

Having online lessons live using MLTV felt as immersive as a normal lesson in school during the remote learning period. Blended learning felt like a breath of fresh air that made focusing on school work much easier.

“

The ease of learning despite not being at school has surprised me.

Making new friends because of the way the class has been divided during blended learning.

“

Closing all tabs opened since the end of the half term as I completed all outstanding assignments!

I had a chance to find out more about myself and my preferred learning methods.

I had more time to reflect and make use of the many opportunities that are available online.

“

I was able to see people grow around me which was extremely motivating.

In the beginning, remote learning was difficult but it brought a lot of students closer online. Once we switched to blended learning, again we had to learn differently and to socialise with new groups of students.

I am thankful for this since I don’t think I would have made as many new friends had it not been for remote and blended learning.

“

Distance learning allowed me not to miss out on my education even when I am ill!

It is amazing to experience how everyone works together both online and in school.

“

Revising for exams is a lot easier now, as teachers have become more used to preparing lessons with Powerpoint presentations and making downloadable resources available. I also enjoyed interacting more with teachers at home and at school.

“

I learned how to do many new things during the lockdown such as baking and cooking.

Through remote and blended learning I learned to persevere and adapt, no matter how hard it got, in the knowledge that teachers and peers will guide you through all challenges.

“

I’ve had many positive experiences during the year of remote and blended learning. I have enjoyed using Microsoft Teams, I got my best grades ever and feel that using this technology has prepared me for the future.

“

Learning from home during a stressful year helped me getting through it.

My computer skills improved a lot and I feel reassured that now most of my school work is stored online and it will be accessible for a long time.

“

I am able to study in the evening later than usual because on the day when school is online I can wake up a bit later.

“

I think that the school has really tried its best to provide us with the best experience during the pandemic and that the staff and students managed to make the best out of it. Teachers have been really helpful and understanding, which I am grateful for. We have been all very friendly to one other because we are all in the same boat. It has been fantastic to witness how well we managed to handle learning from home and school and using technology to continue our education.

I set myself (and achieved) lots of personal goals.

Distance learning gave me more time to focus and to gain a greater understanding of some subjects.

Because of remote learning I can access all the PowerPoint documents and recorded lessons at any time and this makes revising a lot easier.

Learning from home is stressful for me but I manage to get through it.

Blended learning advanced my technology skills, I made new friends and met new great teachers when I joined the Senior School.

This year made my family closer and we had a lot of fun doing things together.

I met new teachers and created a strong bond with them.

I did very well in my mock exams!

I realised how truly important my friends are to me; having to spend months without seeing them really made me reflect and appreciate them even more than I already did!

I enjoyed being able to have everything on one device instead of having to carry books around the school. I have my laptop to communicate, for note-taking and to listen to recorded lessons if I miss them. I hope we will keep using computers for learning.

“

At first I thought this was odd and different but now it feels like the ‘new normal’ way of learning.

“

Remote and blended learning have both been helpful in improving my independent working skills and time management. This unique year has been a new, different educational experience.
