STUDENT LIFE COUNCIL

The Student Life Council (SLC) is responsible for recommending campus-wide student life policies to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the President’s Executive Staff, and other groups that establish policies. Working along with faculty and staff, SLC is responsible for reviewing student handbook policies and registration of student groups as well as supervising many essential campus life committees.

A subcommittee of the Student Life Council at Shepherd, Program Board (PB) is made up of student leaders who create a community on campus by sponsoring diverse, inclusive programming to educate, entertain, and engage students. DEDICATED SERVICE TO STUDENT ACTIVITIES AWARD

Oli Pierce

Oli Pierce has worked for the Office of Student Activities and Leadership as an Event Assistant and then as an Executive Leadership Team member for the campus Program Board for four years During this time, Oli has perfected their skills in customer service and event planning and management Their creative ideas have led to implementation of new programs and helped the department to improve accessibility and engagement for all students Over the past year they have helped the office develop training handouts and teach new staff members office processes and procedures. Oli’s dedication, responsibility, and mentorship have made a huge impact. Their service dog, Magnus, has also become a beloved part of our team. Thank you, Oli, for all you have shared with us!

GLOBAL STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM SENIORS

Global Student Leadership Team members engage the campus community through intercultural awareness, advocacy, and action that promotes cooperation, collaboration, and communication. Members of the Global Student Leadership Team participate in a comprehensive leadership development program designed to empower student voices and facilitate meaningful dialogue among individuals from various backgrounds. Through their demonstrated commitment to community service, civility, global citizenship, and mutual respect, Global Student Leaders strive to create a campus community where all voices are heard, valued, and respected.

PEER SUCCESS LEADERS

The Shepherd University Student Success Center Peer Success Leaders (PSLs) are students who work with Shepherd University's Student Success Center and want to give back to support their peers. PSLs support students academically and socially through one-on-one meetings by sharing their personal experiences, tips, and strategies from a student perspective The PSL program began in 2021 and continues to grow PSLs make a great impact by ensuring students are comfortable, acclimated, and connected during their time at Shepherd

The A-Team Orientation Peer Leaders are a well-rounded group of Shepherd students who assist with New Student Orientation programs. Alternative Spring Break is an annual initiative for students to engage in a week-long service program During this year's spring break, the following students traveled to Jonesville, VA to replace bathroom flooring, new plumbing, insulation under the home, and under pinning around the home with Appalachia Service Project.

RELAY FOR LIFE EVENT LEADERSHIP TEAM

Relay For Life of Jefferson County presented by Shepherd University is a life-changing event that gives everyone in our community and across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease The volunteers listed below helpled plan, organize, and execute a 12-hour event to raise funding for the American Cancer Society.

The Shepherd University Ram Pantry was created with the goal to improve the well-being and health of our Shepherd Family by combating food insecurity. The pantry offers food and basic needs to all current Shepherd University students and employees. Volunteers open the pantry then assist students as they FROP (free+shop) for basic need items. The pantry could not be available without our committed volunteers

Fraternity and Sorority Life Awards

Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) at Shepherd provides opportunities for students to foster academic excellence, leadership development, philanthropic services, and community engagement. Our nine chapters aim for excellence in all aspects of fraternal life by promoting the core values of service, philanthropy, brotherhood/sisterhood, and leadership We are very pleased to showcase the accomplishments of these outstanding student leaders

OUTSTANDING NEW MEMBER - PANHELLENIC ASSOCIATION

Veronica Smith, Sigma Sigma Sigma

Veronica Smith is a member of of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority who has made a huge impact in her chapter with her positive attitude and commitment to her chapter’s service and philanthropy efforts. She is not afraid to take on leadership roles. “Veronica plays an instrumental role in organizing events, supporting her peers, and promoting the values of her chapter and the Panhellenic Association.”

OUTSTANDING NEW MEMBER - SHEPHERD FRATERNITY COUNCIL

Atticus Schlosser, Tau Kappa Epsilon

Atticus Schlosser has been an outstanding member of Tau Kappa Epsilon. His infectious smile and energy make a positive impact on everyone he encounters. He is a leader on the Shepherd Program Board and also was on the event planning team for Relay For Life of Jefferson County. As one of his nominators shared, “Atticus’s dedication to both his academic work and campus life shows his ability to balance responsibilities while inspiring others to get involved and contribute to the community ”

OUTSTANDING NEW MEMBER, PROFESSIONAL FRATERNITIES

Tyler Furbee, Delta Sigma Pi

Tyler Furbee was initiated into Delta Sigma Pi professional business fraternity this spring and has immediately shown willingness to step into leadership roles. He volunteered to assist with multiple chapter events, even before he was initiated into the chapter. In his new member class, he demonstrated a spirit of helpfulness and professionalism that will also serve the campus well as he steps into his new role as President of the Student Government Association in 2025-26.

Katie Keckler, Sigma Sigma Sigma

Katie Keckler, a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority, has served for two years as President of Shepherd’s Panhellenic Association, the governing board of social sororities. In addition to her leadership in Panhellenic and Fraternity and Sorority Life, Katie has been a Shepherd A-Team orientation leader, a Resident Assistant, a Shepherd student admissions ambassador, and a Program Board Executive Leadership Team member, all while maintaining one of the highest grade point averages in Fraternity and Sorority Life As one nominator states, “her commitment to mentoring others has strengthened the bonds among all Panhellenic sisters ” She has dedicated countless hours to planning events to help strengthen relationships between chapters and working to help students find a sense of belonging here at Shepherd

GREEK AWARD OF DISTINCTION: LEADERSHIP

Isabella Cameron, Alpha Sigma Tau

Isabella Cameron is a senior who has been a member of Alpha Sigma Tau sorority for three years She has served in a variety of roles on the chapter’s executive board and is one of the strongest leaders in the chapter. Isabella’s nominators mention her kindness and ability to encourage and support others. She is a “role model who makes everyone feel welcome and included.”

Aaron Mathew is widely respected on campus as a leader who lives by his values. He is an exceptional scholar, chapter president, and role model In addition to leading the Lambda Chi Alpha chapter, Aaron has also served as a Resident Assistant as well as on the Student Government Association executive board One nominator said, “Aaron has the impact an extraordinary leader can have on a chapter and on Fraternity and Sorority Life as a whole ”

CHAPTER PRESIDENT OF THE YEAR

Lucas Driver, Tau Kappa Epsilon

Lucas Driver has served as the President of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity for the past two years. He is also one of the most engaged members of the Shepherd University community. Whether he is encouraging others to keep walking in the middle of the night at Relay For Life, helping with an Accepted Students Day panel, or starting a spontaneous singalong, Lucas’s superpower is building community and elevating the energy in the room He encourages others to challenge themselves to learn from their mistakes, be accountable, and continue to grow He has built strong relationships across Fraternity and Sorority Life and works to recognize and lift up others to help them feel that they belong As one of his nominators stated, “I have witnessed Lucas overcome numerous challenges this year and no matter the adversity, he never gave up and worked tirelessly to resolve the issues and consistently works to help each member succeed both within the chapter and in their personal lives.”

GREEK MAN OF THE YEAR

Paul Teter, Delta Sigma Pi

It is our pleasure to recognize Paul Teter as Greek Man of the Year 2024-25. If you have attended an event on campus, it is highly likely that Paul Teter has been involved in it. In addition to being an exceptional student, Paul has served as the President of Delta Sigma Pi professional business fraternity, a Shepherd Admissions Ambassador, a member of the Program Board, a collaborator with the Stubblefield Institute in promoting civic engagement and civility, and the president of the Student Government Association for two consecutive years His nominators cite his boundless dedication to leadership, service, and brotherhood within DSP and the greater Shepherd community

Jenha Trevethan, Sigma Sigma Sigma

Jenha Trevathan models all of the best qualities of Panhellenic leadership, a genuine care for others, a commitment to service and philanthropy, and dedication to her sisterhood. In the semester that she has led the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority, the chapter has excelled and demonstrated outstanding service on campus and in the greater community including regularly mentoring students at the Martinsburg Boys and Girls Club As one of her nominators said, “Jenha leads with heart She fosters sisterhood by creating a space where everyone feels connected and supported Her leadership empowers members to become more engaged, confident, and prepared for leadership roles in the future ”

OUTSTANDING ACCOUNTING CLUB MEMBER

Jonathan has been a member of the club since spring 2024 He is an accounting major and serves as the treasurer of the Accounting Club He is very detail oriented and works diligently in accounting for the receipt and disbursement of funds for the Club

Award Criteria: Presented to an outstanding senior; must be active member of club; must have minimum 3 0 in major and overall GPA; must be a graduate of the current calendar year; and be selected by majority vote of active members

SHEPHERD LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD: LEADERSHIP THROUGH SERVICE

Joanna Schoonover

Our Student Library Advisory Board (SLAB) president has been an incredible leader, completely turning things around and getting more students involved in the club during these past two years while serving as president. She and her fellow board members have made it their mission to promote the library and its services. Thanks to her enthusiasm and hard work, SLAB now hosts well-loved events like "Blind Date with a Book", student book clubs, and "Coffee and Cram", where students can grab free drinks and snacks during finals week. She’s passionate, dedicated, and truly inspiring Her leadership has made a lasting impact on both SLAB and the library community

GROWTH THROUGH SERVICE

Katerina (Kat) Ramirez Cubas

Katerina’s work in IT and advocacy of mental health on campus has been exceptional Kat made a huge impact on our IT Team as well as the campus community. She approaches everything with professionalism, poise and kindness. Accomplishments include: Mental Health Advocacy & Campus Impact, secured a grant for the university to create a low-stimulation area in The Well and the Serene Green outdoor space, hosted mental health awareness events like "They Don’t Get Baked" (cannabis awareness) and "Paws for Prevention" (midterm stress relief). She participated in invisible illness initiative video for Accessibility Services, the Human Library event, speaking on invisible illnesses and disability advocacy. She is the President of Psi Chi (Psychology Honor Society), a WVCIA Student Leader, advocating for mental health resources, and a Summer A-Team Member, assisting new students and their families during orientation She is involved on campus working in Shepherd IT, helping students and professors with tech support She is also a member of Tri Sigma, Tau Sigma, and TRIO

Award Criteria: Awarded to a student who has demonstrated personal or professional growth through completing Community Service with the office of Student Community Services Completed community service hours during the academic year and through this experience gained confidence, purpose, drive, motivation, or any other worthy characteristics

Madison Rhine

Madison Rhine is a senior nursing major and transferred to Shepherd in 2022. She is the current president of Shepherd's chapter of Tau Sigma, the Transfer Student Honor Society This organization celebrates highachieving transfer students, and Madison is a shining example of the academic excellence and leadership that this organization highlights From planning events, helping onboard and welcome new members, assisting with the annual induction ceremony, and much more, Madison shows a clear passion for making sure transfer students feel welcomed to their new home at Shepherd University. We are thankful for her leadership and service to Tau Sigma and to her fellow transfer students at Shepherd.

Award Criteria: Shepherd transfer student who has displayed exemplary leadership qualities, academic excellence, and service to other transfer students and the campus community as a whole

COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP & CIVIL ADVOCACY CERTIFICATES (CLCA)

CLCA Certificate recipients have identified opportunities for civic engagement in their communities and have acquired the skills necessary to advocate for themselves and others. Certificate completers have acted to improve access or reduce barriers in areas of personal significance, such as K12 mental health services for students and staff, and higher education enhancements for students at Shepherd University

Award Criteria: Students attend monthly sessions with experienced practitioners to learn the basics of community organizing and civil advocacy Students completed after-session assignments leading to a culminating advocacy project presentation to a decision-maker or person in a position of authority.

THE BONNIE AND BILL STUBBLEFIELD AWARD FOR STUDENT EXCELLENCE

Eli Hall served as the Shepherd University Student Representative on the Stubblefield Institute Board of Advisors during the 2024-25 academic year. As the representative, he supported board tasks and decisionmaking during regular board meetings, the strategic planning session, and on two committees: Programs and Research & Development Eli was selected for the position of student representative due to his contributions the previous year During the 2023-24 school year, as Stubblefield Institute Civility Club president, Eli assisted with providing opportunities for students to engage in civil discourse with their peers, community members and legislators He did this by hosting regular meetings and conversations and by helping to organize the annual “Not Your Parents’ Debate” Debate, the For Students, By Students Town Hall, the Campus Civility Awards and the Civility Ball.

Award Criteria: Student has demonstrated dedication to civil political communications and to the Stubblefield Institute during at least two consecutive years at Shepherd University. Student served as the Shepherd University Student Representative to the Stubblefield Institute Board of Advisors during the current school year

CAMPUS CIVILITY AWARD

Joshua Molina

As a member of the debate team, Josh is continually displaying and improving his ways to have respectful interactions in the face of disagreement Josh is very involved on campus and tries to make everyone feel welcome in any space he finds himself

Award Criteria: This student was nominated by their peers and then chosen by the Stubblefield Institute Civility Club because of the student’s dedication to civility on the Shepherd University campus This student engages in constructive interactions, shows respect despite disagreement, and inspires others to be civil

KAPPA DELTA PI (KDP) - DISTINGUISHED LEADERSHIP AWARD

Allison Cronk

Allison has been serving as president of KDP and has been instrumental in leading the officer team in planning and carrying out a variety of programs that serve the chapter, School of Education, and community.

Award Criteria: Awarded to a student who has consistently taken on leadership responsibilities and successfully fulfilled them to the betterment of the chapter

KAPPA DELTA PI - OUSTANDING OFFICER AWARD

Gracie Walker

Gracie has served in various officer positions since her initiation into KDP and is someone who can be counted on to be there and make things happen. She is currently the chapter vice president.

Award Criteria: Awarded to an officer who has gone beyond expectations to serve chapter members.

KAPPA DELTA PI - SHEPHERDING AWARD

Brianna Martin

As a past president and current member, Brianna was at the forefront of creating a new tiered membership system that allows individuals who have not yet met international requirements for membership in the education honor society to begin active involvement from their first semester at Shepherd She has tirelessly worked to make sure that all feel welcome and valued

Award Criteria: Awarded to a KDP member who has provided individual service to other teacher candidates in strengthening our professional community.

KAPPA DELTA PI - LITERACY PROMOTION AWARD

Lisa Lulie

As an elementary education major, literacy is a big part of Lisa's life. She is the chair of the Little House Literacy Carnival, an annual event on campus that engages area children in reading story books and doing book-related activities.

Award Criteria: Awarded to a student who demonstrates commitment to the development of literacy skills in P-12 learners and the promotion of research supported practice in literacy teaching

Grace Bittle

Grace has been a member of KDP for several semesters and she always brings a 'can do' attitude and bright smile to everything we do Our members appreciate her contagious enthusiasm to get the most out of all we do

DELTA SIGMA PI CAPITAL REGION COLLEGIAN OF THE YEAR

Paul Teter

Paul was awarded Capital Region Collegian of the Year for his outstanding accomplishment and service during his four years as a brother in Delta Sigma Pi He has served in numerous officer positions, including President, Senior Vice President, Chancellor, Vice President of Professional Activities, and Vice President of Alumni Affairs. He has helped recruit multiple new members, planned many professional activities and community service events, traveled to multiple fraternity events, and is always helpful to his fellow brothers.

Award Criteria: Each year, Delta Sigma Pi selects an outstanding member for their regional, provincial, and national collegians of the year These members are nominated by their chapters and go through an application process that highlights their accomplishments, achievements, and experiences in Delta Sigma Pi.

OUTSTANDING STUDENT IN RECREATION AND SPORT STUDIES

Brandon Carr

Brandon Carr is the recipient of this year ’ s Sport Marketing Award in recognition of his exceptional leadership and engagement throughout his academic year here at Shepherd University, both on and off the field of football. Brandon consistently demonstrated a deep understanding of marketing principles and applied them thoughtfully in class discussions, case studies, and group projects. Brandon stands out not only for his academic insight but also for his ability to bring others together, encouraging collaboration, elevating group work, and driving innovative ideas forward. His leadership and communication skills have had a lasting impact on the learning environment, and his enthusiasm for sport industry is both genuine and contagious Brandon’s professionalism, creativity, and commitment to excellence in sport marketing make him a welldeserving recipient of this award and a future leader in this field

Luetta Seipp is the recipient of this year ’ s Sports Marketing Award for her outstanding leadership both in the classroom and on the Shepherd’s Women’s Lacrosse field Luetta exemplifies the qualities of a future coach and administrator, leading by example, fostering teamwork, and consistently demonstrating integrity, discipline, and a strong work ethic. In the academic setting, she contributes thoughtfully to discussions and brings a practical, team-centered perspective to coursework and group projects. On the field, Luetta is a vocal and steady leader, serving as a role model to her teammates and showing a deep understanding of strategy, motivation, and the importance of communication. Her ability to bridge athletic and academic leadership makes her a standout in the sport management program and a deserving honoree of this award. Luetta’s passion for sport, coupled with her natural leadership and administrative insight, positions her for continued success in coaching and a sport leadership role

Charlie has been selected as the Outstanding Student in the area of Sport and Event Management in recognition and constant demonstration of outstanding performance and academic achievements The hard work, dedication and commitment to this area of concentration within the Recreation and Sport Studies major have set a high yet achievable standard for successful accomplishment and future professional endeavors

IEEE SHEPHERD OUTSTANDING OFFICER AWARD

As the President of our IEEE Student Chapter, Jamie has exhibited exemplary leadership, successfully organizing events, fostering collaboration among peers, and promoting professional development within the student community. Additionally, she is also in the leadership team for the Hacking and Cybersecurity Club, which has been instrumental in cultivating a culture of ethical hacking and cybersecurity awareness. Beyond leadership, Jamie consistently demonstrated an exceptional grasp of complex programming concepts and problem-solving techniques. Jamie’s performance in my classes placed them among the top students, showcasing her analytical thinking, creativity, and determination to excel. Beyond excelling in coursework, Jamie has actively pursued opportunities to apply her knowledge in competitive and collaborative settings. For the upcoming summer, Jamie has been accepted into an International Research Experience for Students sponsored by the University of Arizona She will go to the University of Oulu in Finland between June 1st and July 31st to work on research topics in cloud native systems

Rachael is the Treasurer of the IEEE Student Chapter at Shepherd University. She has consistently been reliable, respectful, easygoing, and kind, making her a pleasure to work with for both faculty and peers alike. She has been helping with many activities on and off campus as a volunteer, including Summer Camps for high school students, graders for MathCounts competition for local middle schoolers, and regional Math Field Days for grade students in the state of West Virginia.

Sharifa has been instrumental to our organization this semester! She helped out at nearly every event that we held, and she did so with a smile and a continually positive attitude She truly embodies servant leadership She is well-beloved by all of her fellow SUSNA members and classmates, and this can be underscored the fact that she was nominated for this award by multiple individuals

OLIVER S. IKENBERRY AWARD

Dr Oliver S Ikenberry served as President of Shepherd College for 21 years, from 1947 to 1968 These were years of expansion for all American higher education and important formative years for Shepherd College as well. The institution grew in academic stature and breadth of program offerings. It expanded substantially in enrollment and in acreage that provides the spacious campus Shepherd enjoys today. President and Mrs. Ikenberry were actively engaged with students, faculty, staff, and alumni and intimately involved with the community of Shepherdstown. Ikenberry Hall was named in honor of President Ikenberry’s service to Shepherd. This award is designated for two students for “exemplary human service to Shepherd University as evidenced by campus leadership, community service, and overall achievement ”
