Introduction -

Jack Wolfskin is a German outdoor brand, founded in 1983, forged around a

campfire through the discovery of realization that is a lifelong undertaking should be within reach of all the others. Its mission is to provide the most sustainable solutions for apparel, footwear, equipment extending and deepen the outdoor experiences, to supporting the best performance for biking, skiing, camping, hiking, trekking and commuting demands. Since 2013, Jack Wolfskin is adopting sustainability in their brand by 100% of or-

ganic cotton from certified organic sources, sustainable alternative product categories and raw materials, clean textile chemicals (Phase-out of PFC chemicals), and animal welfare. In addition to the close partnership with the Bluesign. Most iconic sustainable technologies that Jack Wolfskin developed is “Texapore Ecosphere” membrane technology - the 100 percent recycled cuttings and zero-waste from leftover cuttings.

However, the “Good on You” is only rated as “It’s a start”, and compared to other

competitors like the North Face, Patagonia, there are still a lot that Jack Wolfskin needs to develop on. In this sustainable design portfolio, it will be focus on the further sustainable material innovation and providing the solutions of circular cycle of Jack Wolfskin.

Design Direction

MoodBoard Jack Wolfskin is a well-known Germany outdoor brands that’s most famous for its functionality, practicality, performance, and durability. It is all thanks to the unique technologies they developed, Texapore(materials with multiple functionality), Carrying systems(bags), and RECCO®(detector/locator). Moreover, Texapore is the most unique material that developed by Jack Wolfskin, providing the best waterproof, windproof, and breathable performance, with fully recyclable membrane.

From the research in WGSN, the menswear fabric Autumn/Winter 2024 report it concluded the trending materials with four main points, classic, better-quality, and sustainable fibres; cosy textures with brushed looking and elevated padding; WinterBrights with uplift colour and bold stripes or sportif; and natural fibres with func-

The Good on You rating report that Jack Wolfskin is lacking biodiversity on the materials. Therefore, in this sustainable product range, rather than

just recycled fibres, it will also be collaborating with other innovative sustainable fabric companies. Such as Polartec®, Peelsphere®, Biopuff® to increase the biodiversity of the sustainable fabrics, while being functionality. o

In addition, the product end of life will also be considered consciously, to keep the circularity cycle. From the research of competitors Patagonia, they have devel-

oped a Take-Back program, upcycles the previous T-shirts consumer bought from Patagonia into Tee-Cycle collation using Infinna™ fibre to complete the circularity cycle and could be recycled infinity time in the future. Currently, Jack Wolfskin haven’t adopted any recycle program in their sustainability strategy, introduce a new end of life program it is essential, and one way could achieve is through collaboration with Infinity Fibre company. Which they collected all kinds of fabrics (mostly high cotton content), and reproduce them into Infinna™ fibre and made new products for sell. Moreover, to promoting consumer recycling their old clothes bought from Jack Wolfskin, they give store credit or promotion to the consumer who recycled their clothes or lower the prices of new products that produce based on the recycled clothes, in this way it could also satisfy the demands of low-income group who wants to be sustainability. o

Sustainability Certifications -

This sustainable product range is based on the standards: easy biodegradable, fabrics from waste, completing the

circular cycle, and conscious on fabric end of life. Currently Jack Wolfskin are partnerships with Bluesign®, Fair Wear Foundation, Polartec®, and Responsible Down Standards. In the sustainable product range, it will be develop further through creating possibility partnership with other matched sustainable business. Through re-partnership with Polartec®, it specific the recycled polyester fabric to recycled P.E.T Plastic without losing any of the fibre functionality, certificated by OEKO-TEX® and bluesign®. The collaboration with Infinity Infinna™ fibre creates the end-of-life possibility for cotton, jersey, denim fabrics, in addition to easy biodegrade and infinity recycled to fully complete the circular cycle, certificated by SCS Global Service of 99% Recycled Content. The Biopuff® partnership developed the biodiversity of the fabrics, while being Cruelty-free, Organic, and naturally biodegradable, certificated by Cradle to Cradle Gold. The Peelsphere® is a truly circular material that created based on fruit waste, an ideal alternative of leather product, while being durable, versatile and biodegradable, certificated by 2nd Kering K-Generation Ward, TÜV Austria, and OK biobased.
