OysterFest Brings Flavor, Fun, & Lasting Impact

For locals, OysterFest is a treasured tradition. For visitors, it offers a delicious dive into the Pacific Northwest’s legendary seafood scene. The 44th annual OysterFest, hosted by the Shelton Skookum Rotary Club, takes place Saturday and Sunday, October 4–5, 2025, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday and 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday.

The weekend begins on Friday, October 3, with OysterFunk, a lively 21+ beer garden hosted by the Shelton Rotary Club from 6:00 to 10:00 pm. Featuring live music by the Kitty Mae Band and a wide selection of local microbrews, OysterFunk has become a festive kickoff that welcomes both residents and the many RV travelers who make OysterFest an annual stop.

At the heart of the weekend is the West Coast Oyster Shucking Championship, a showcase of skill, speed, and celebration that always draws a crowd. Contestants compete using thousands of oysters generously donated by Taylor Shellfish, and festival-goers cheer on the action from the stands. The event continues to be recognized as Washington State’s official seafood festival, bringing attention to the region’s aquaculture and culinary heritage.

Families will find plenty to enjoy throughout the weekend. Two live music stages offer a variety of performances, while the Kids Stage features daily shows designed for younger audiences. Elsewhere on the grounds, festival favorites include mini golf with the Boy Scouts, carnival games, crafts, face painting, remote-controlled ship exhibits, marine touch tanks, and train rides hosted by the Kristmas Town Kiwanis.

Adults will find just as much to savor. The Wine Pavilion highlights Washington wineries, while the Microbrew Garden showcases some of the best craft beers from around the Pacific Northwest. Pairing these selections with the one-of-a-kind dishes prepared by OysterFest’s food vendors is part of the magic. In keeping with tradition, only nonprofit organizations may serve food at OysterFest, ensuring that every bite helps fund important local causes. For many groups, the festival represents their most significant fundraiser of the year.

Beyond the festival grounds, the economic impact is felt throughout Mason County. Hotels, RV parks, and campgrounds fill with visitors, while restaurants, retailers, coffee shops, and gas stations all see a welcome surge in business. With more than 12,000 attendees expected, OysterFest not only brings people together for a weekend of fun but also delivers a meaningful boost to the local economy. All proceeds from the event go directly back into the community, strengthening the organizations and businesses that make Mason County thrive.

The success of OysterFest depends entirely on volunteers. From ticket booths to cleanup crews, community members lend their time and energy to keep the festival running smoothly.

Volunteers receive free admission for the day they serve along with a commemorative t-shirt. Those interested can sign up at oysterfest.org/volunteer and be part of the excitement while giving back.
