ince April is National Volunteer Month, I feel it is fitting to recognize the Pavilion Auxiliary. But what exactly is an auxiliary? To start with, it is a noun – the Auxiliary. But it is also an adjective. It describes the role that the volunteers within the Auxiliary perform. Diving even deeper, the Latin root of our English word “auxiliary” is auxiliaris, from auxilium which means help; and is similar to the Latin augēre which means to increase. And that is exactly what the Pavilion Auxiliary does! The men and women who volunteer through the Auxiliary HELP our residents and staff. And probably more importantly they INCREASE the care and services that we provide to the residents. Through their efforts, Pavilion residents enjoy a more active and fulfilling quality of life.

Without the Auxiliary and their efforts, some residents would need to wait longer to be assisted with their meals or to activities. Residents wouldn’t have their mail delivered to them every day. Residents in Connected Living wouldn’t have a special friend who visits with them and spends time with them, enjoying this particular moment in the life of that resident. Residents wouldn’t benefit from the special enjoyment of viewing the wonderful scenery of Southwest Florida in the new van, donated through the generosity and efforts of the Auxiliary. And this is just the beginning of what the Auxiliary accomplishes each and every day! So, ladies and gentlemen of the Pavilion Auxiliary – please accept a big THANK YOU from all of the staff and residents at the Larsen Pavilion. You are a priceless treasure to us!
