Chidambaram agrees to release pending salaries of ANFPDCL workers Port Blair, Jan. 17: The Finance Minister of India Mr. P Chidambaram has agreed to the request made by Andaman’s Lt. Governor for releasing of funds for payment of pending salaries of hundreds of employees of Andaman Nicobar Forest Plantation Development Corporation Limited (ANFPDCL). The concession came during a meeting of the Finance Minister with the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lt. Gen (Retd.) A K Singh on yesterday. According to an official press release issued by Andaman and Nicobar Administration the Lt. Governor of A & N Islands called on the Union Finance

Minister, Mr. P. Chidambaram on January 16, 2014 to discuss various crucial issues relating to the A&N Islands. “One of the issues discussed was release of funds for payment of salaries of the employees of Andaman Nicobar Islands Forest & Plantation Development Corporation Ltd. The Union Finance Minster has agreed to the request for releasing of funds for payment of salaries of employees of the Forest Corporation,” the release added.Andaman and Nicobar Forest Plantation Development Corporation Ltd. (ANFPDCL), a Public Sector Undertaking of the Government of India, is facing acute financial crisis since

2002, after tree felling was banned in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, by the Supreme Court of India.Since last three months the workers of ANFPDCL have not received their salary and wages, forcing them to go for hunger strike in Andamans.

Kuldeep demands Helicopter Service between Kamorta and Campbell Bay Port Blair, Jan 17: The PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt Governor for considering helicopter services in between Kamor ta and Campbell Bay. In this context Kuldeep has drawn attention of the Administrator to the fact that the people of Kamor ta Islands are facing much pr oblem d ue to non availability of helicopter services in between Kamorta to Campbell Bay and this is their long pending demand to have the services in their island and accordingly he has r eq uested t he Lt Governor to c onsid er connecting these two islands through helicopter services to ease t he tr ansport problems of the people of these two islands.
