Diglipur, Mar 18: The CCS and CID units of Andaman and Nicobar Police today conducted a joint raid at Sagar Dweep area of North Andaman and arrested one person for allegedly growing Ganja plants near his house.

Accor ding to sources the accused was growing Ganja plants in

the form of Plantation and the joint team has seized 16 long plants from the plantation. The accused was immediately arr ested by the team.

Ganja smuggling has become very lucrative business and hence in many occasions it was seen that people in Andaman indulge in G anja P la nta tion in small level. Earlier similar cases were reported from Diglipu r a nd Litt le Andaman Islands.

South Andaman Police Continues the Cracks Down On Illicit Handiya Port Blair, Mar 18: Continuing the operation against illicit liquor, the teams of Pahargaon police have registered 3 excise cases on 17th March and arrested 3 persons with r ecovery of 735 Kg Handia.

On receipt of credible information, a team of PS Pahargaon led by SHOA. K. Singh and comprising ASI Murgeshan, ASI Radha Kr ishnan, HC Benjamin Toppo, PCs Ashok, Rajesh and Sunita conducted raids in Brookshabad area and recov-

ered 34 Aluminium degchi and 1 plastic buckets containing total 735 Kg Handiya. In this connection, three person namely Marianus Kerketta, Jawari and Dropadi Devi (all resident of Brookshabad) were arrested and cases were registered against them.

All these oper ations took place under the close supervision of SDPO (SA) Mr. Nishant Gupta and under the overall supervision of Mr. Deepak Yadav, IPS, Superinten-

dent of Police, South Andaman District.

Police Team Seizes 840 Grams of Ganja & arrests 02 at Rangat N&M Andaman, Mar 18: Acting strictly on the menace of Drug peddling, the Rangat police had recovered 840 grams of Ganja from the possession of 02 persons on 16/03/19.

On the basis of credible information, SI Usman Ali, SHO PS Rangat along with Police Team consisting of SI Somen Halder, SI Parvash, HC Shaukat Ali, PC Prity, PC Pradeep Karmakar, HG Mangal Katchap and HG Francis Toppo raided for 02 houses near vegetable market Rangat Bazaar and recovered 540 grams of illicit ganja from the possession of Smt. Mamta Halder R/o Rangat Bazaar and Mr. Subir Gain R/o Rangat Bazaar.

They were arrested under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act 1985. Subsequently 02 cases have been registered at PS Rangat under NDPS Act against the above accused persons. Further investigation is in progress. The entire operation was carried out under the close supervision of Mr. Shar ma, SDPO Rangat.

Advisory for Candidates during Filing of Nomination Port Blair, Mar 18: The nomination process for the General Elections 2019 for LokSabha has started from 18th March 2019 and will continue up to 25th March 2019.During this period, candidates can file the nominations in the RO’s office at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman), Port Blair. According to the directions of the Election Commission of India, South Andaman Police has made necessary security arrangements around the

RO’s office. In order to avoid inconvenience to the candidates they are advised to follow the route from Bengali Club towards the RO’s office and park their vehicles in IP&T parking. As per the Model Code of Conduct, only three vehicles can be permitted to come within the 100 metre radius of the RO’s office and only 5 persons, including the candidate himself, can enter the RO’s office for filing nomination.Therefore, all candidates are advised to follow the above instructions and various

directions of Election Commission of India and maintain order in the RO’s office during the process of filing nomination. They are also advised to intimate the concerned Police Stations in advance about their schedule of filing nomination so that necessary coordination may be ensured.

Massive fire breaks out at a factory in Delhi’s Mundka A massive fire broke out at a factory situated at Swaran Park in west Delhi’s Mundka, fire officials said on Monday.

The fire department received a call at around 11.35 PM and dispatched 20 fire tenders to the spot.

Voting Machine (EVM)/ Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT). Mr. K R Meena, Chief Electoral Officer, A & N Islands in his opening remark informed the Head of Depar tments (HoDs) of all Central/State Government, that EVM/ VVPAT, which are used by the Election Commission, are not only user friendly but also reliable, credible and authenticate machines, which provide ease, comfort and accurate voting by the electors. It was emphasized that the EVMs/VVPATs are manufactured by the two reputed Central Govt. undertakings and the software of EVM/VVPAT are scrutinised by the independent Technical Expert Committee before handing over the machines to States/UTs for election. The EVM work as a standalone machine not connected with any network.

The machines operate with one time pr ogr ammable chip, which is neither computer control nor connected to internet. Moreover, the programme used in the EVM is one time programmable chip, which cannot be al-

tered or tampered with.

It was also informed that there are several administrative safeguards which make its operation fair and transparent. The EVMs are closely monitor ed by political parties and their representatives during the First Level Checking, candidates setting, on the day of poll and counting. The entir e pr ocess is also video-graphed and signature of representatives of political parties/their repr esentatives ar e being taken each time before assigning the EVM/VVPAT to Str ong Room. T he Commission has also provided opportunity to the representatives of political parties and their representatives to sign the seal of Strong Room and also watch and war d polled EVM stored in the Strong Room.

The CEO also requested all the HoDs to observe MCC and obtain clearance of the Commission through a Committee headed by Chief Secretary, if needed. He also re-

quested to all the Departments to extend help and cooperation to provide Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF) in the polling stations so that voting became a festive and memorable experience to the voters. He requested all the HoDs to ensure casting of vote on the day of poll and also motivate and encourage all the officials working under them and their family members to cast vote on the day of poll.

The Chief Secretary assured all help and cooperation to the UT election machinery during the election.

He also acknowledged hard work being done by the election machinery in the UT. During the workshop, demonstrations on functioning of EVMs/VVPATs were also given in which CS, PCCF and DGP along with other HoDs participated. A presentation was also made by the Returning Officer, Mr. Udit Prakash Rai on functioning, use and advantage of EVM/ VVPAT. Mr. Yash Choudhary, Nodal Officer (MCC) also made a presentation on implementation of MCC.

Soldier killed, 3 injured in ceasefire violation in J&K’s Rajouri district

An Army soldier was killed in cease violation by Pakistani forces along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Monday.

Pakistani forces resorted to firing from small arms and shelling mortars in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district.

“A soldier was martyred and three others were injured in ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Keri Battal area of Akhnoor this mor ning,” said an Army source.

Earlier, Defence spokesman Lt Col Devender Anand had said that at around 5.30 am, Pakistan initiated unpr ovoked

ceasefire violation by shelling with mortars and firing of small arms along LoC in Sunderbani Sector.

He said Indian Army retaliated effectively and the firing stopped at 0715 hours.

Earlier, on 6:30 pm on Sunday Pakistani troops violated ceasefire triggering a strong response from the Indian Army. This came after Pakistan on Wednesday violated ceasefire in Poonch sector of the state.

Earlier, Pakistani Rangers also initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation in Chakkan da Bagh crossing point where the Line of Control trade centre is located.

While some BJP supporters are almost sure that Bishnu Pada Ray will get the ticket once again, some senior BJP leaders are confident that Vishal Jolly will get the ticket this year.

The last general elections were held between April 7, 2014 to May 12, 2014, in nine phases. The results were announced on May 16.
