Celebrate Our Chamber Champions
Lastly, our Chamber Champions Gala is right around the corner, and we are seeking nominations. This is your chance to recognize the individuals, businesses, and organizations that are going above and beyond to make Sheboygan County a better place to live, work, and do business.
Who do you know who deserves recognition at the 2026 Chamber Champions Gala?
Think about:
• A business that has demonstrated outstanding growth or innovation
• A leader who continually invests in our community
• An organization that models partnership and collaboration
Your nominations help us tell the story of what makes this region so special: we truly are better together.
This season, as you plan your shopping, attend events, and look ahead to the new year, we invite you to:
• Shop local.
• Engage with the Chamber.
• Share your voice through the Economic Outlook Survey.
• Lift up others through Chamber Champions nominations.
Thank you for all you do to support Sheboygan County. Together, we’ll keep building a strong, vibrant, and connected community.

Facilitator
I like words. Crossword puzzles or Wordle or One word openers/ One word closers or new words! There are 2 new words for me based on the book I am in the midst of reading titled I Never Thought of It That Way written by Monica Guzman.
John Rogers
The first new word is sobremesa. Do you ever sit around the dining room table and talk with the others with you? Ms. Guzman, and the internet, translate the word to mean ‘over table’ and apparently there is no English equivalent. At our annual Thanksgiving gathering the most likely opportunity for a sobremesa is breakfast because this family group likes to talk about all kinds of topics and we will do that before jumping up to do the dishes or go outside for a scavenger hunt! The range in ages will be 12 to 85! This year, I think we will learn about travels and what is different about Eastern Europe or Uganda compared with the US. We might also talk about Lego League to Packers v Lions! We all get along so I doubt there will be any heated discussions plus the silos we are in are similar.
The second new word is an acronym for the book title INTOIT [I Never Thought of It That way]. My reference to silos is not about grain storage but how we often tend to associate with likeminded people so much that maybe we don’t jump easily from one silo to another. Are you in a republican silo or a democrat silo or an independent silo? Are you challenged when you are in a discussion with a person from another silo? Maybe your response can be “I never thought of it that way!”
One paragraph jumped off the page and it says:
“The connections we generate in conversations help us build trust with each other, which helps us release deeper stories, revealing more gaps in our collected knowledge. But it also gives us courage, helping us to ask the questions we really want to ask and give the answers we really mean. When there’s more trust, there’s less fear, and taking risks in bridging conversations become easier. The bonds we make in conversations help us talk about harder things.”
While I am a bit biased, I think that roundtables have developed sincere friendships with peers because of open dialog. Some participants have attended for years! Yes, I control the flow of conversation to enable everyone to say what they want or to ask questions to better understand the topic we are discussing. The goal is to help and sometimes we may think INTOIT is extremely applicable. Try a roundtable; we have 7 peer groups to choose from plus Manufacturing [more technology transfer oriented]. Check The Buzz for what is on the horizon.
Maybe in 2026 we will have a sobremesa roundtable?

Mallory Black - Program Coordinator
Hello all!
What an exciting month it's been across our leadership and Young Professionals programs. November brought powerful learning moments, impressive engagement, and some major momentum heading into the end of the year. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to — and what’s ahead!
Leadership Sheboygan County & Junior Leadership
Kristin Bahr
Mallory Black
In November, both our Adult Leadership and Junior Leadership groups spent the month exploring leadership within the criminal justice system. Participants heard directly from local police chiefs, judges, and other justice leaders about what strong leadership looks like in high-pressure, high-stakes environments. These conversations offered an impactful look at how their work influences the safety, health, and overall stability of our community and local economy.
For this months sessions, Adult Leadership will shift their focus to Transportation & Logistics in Sheboygan County. Participants will explore the intense planning, coordination, and leadership it takes to keep an entire county moving — including both private and public sectors and why these systems are vital to our community and its economic health. Junior Leadership will shift their focus to Health Care & Social Services, gaining insight into adaptive leadership and the diverse needs individuals may bring to a team—whether physical, mental, developmental, or emotional. This session highlights how local organizations work to create inclusive, supportive environments and why meeting these needs is essential for strong culture, alignment, and long-term success. Students will see firsthand how thoughtful leadership can strengthen teams, improve retention, and foster a workplace where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Young Professionals Program
November was a huge month for our Young Professionals — truly our biggest yet. Our YP Friendsgiving Gathering saw over 40 attendees and representation from more than 30 organizations and industries across Sheboygan County and beyond. The energy in the room was electric from start to finish. Conversations sparked effortlessly, new relationships formed naturally, and the entire group created their own momentum — laughing, connecting, and truly showing the revived direction the YP group is becoming.
With this level of engagement and excitement, the YP Program continues to grow rapidly, and we’re thrilled to keep building on this momentum as we move into the new year.
Young Professionals, please consider joining the group for our final YP event of the year — which is our Holiday Gathering scheduled on December 10th from 5:00–7:30 PM at Jake’s Café, A Lakeland Community, one of Sheboygan’s most creative community spaces!
YP’s are invited to celebrate the season with an evening of conversation, connection, and holiday cheer. Guests can expect:
• Warm networking and meaningful conversation
• A welcoming atmosphere inside Jake’s Café’s creative community hub
• Snacks, music, and festive games
• Our Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest (prize for the winner!)
• Whether you are brand new to the Young Professionals Group or already a familiar face, this gathering is the perfect way to wrap up an incredible year of growth. More details and registration can be found on the Chamber website.
I’m incredibly excited for what’s in store for 2026. Big ideas, elevated experiences, stronger programs — all with the goal of supporting, strengthening, and celebrating the future leaders of Sheboygan County! I truly am so passionate about these programs and grateful for every participant, partner, and organization that makes this work meaningful!
If interested in getting more involved with these programs or are looking to connect further, please reach out – mallory@sheboygan.org.
Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season, Mallory Black

A Warm Welcome to the Year Ahead...
The holidays can get hectic, but December can still offer a quiet moment to reflect on what we have done together and what is coming next. In this work, I am reminded all the time how meaningful it is to have places where people can meet, share a soft conversation, and feel supported.

As we enjoy the holiday season, I wanted to note a few dates to keep in mind for the new year. Our Make Your Mark "Newcomer and Networking Events" are meant to be relaxed and welcoming, giving new (and current) residents and families a simple way to connect and learn more about our community.

I also had the chance to host a resource booth at the DWD job fair on November 19. It was wonderful meeting prospective residents, answering local questions, and sharing support through our Make Your Mark grant program. If you were not able to attend, the next
Sheboygan area job fair will be on December 17, 2025, at the Job Center (3620 Wilgus Dr., Sheboygan, WI).
As we wrap up the 2025 year, I am grateful for all the kindness, conversations, and collaboration that made this one special. I hope you have a warm and peaceful holiday season, and I look forward to welcoming new faces and new connections in the year ahead!
