“Growing other leaders from the ranks isn’t just the duty of the leader, it’s an obligation.” – Warren Bennis

Did you know? In late March, we launched the first round of marketing and advertising outside of our area to attract workforce to Sheboygan County through the “Make Your Mark” campaign, in partnership with Sheboygan County. We are excited to attract new neighbors to Sheboygan County, fill much needed jobs in our area, and to enhance our economic growth opportunities. Do you have family or friends in other communities that you would like to welcome to Sheboygan County? We have a lot of resources available to help them move to Sheboygan County and settle into our area so be sure to get them connected with the chamber.

We are in full swing of accepting leadership and junior leadership applications for the 2024-2025 academic year. Developing leaders is the best way for us to grow in Sheboygan County for many years to come. It is our way of setting our community up for success while preparing our next generation of leadership to take charge. Are you interested in participating in leadership? Or do you have a junior or senior in high school that you feel would be a great fit?

May is the start of Young Professionals month in Sheboygan County. Kierra and her YP committee have been busy preparing several opportunities to engage, celebrate and develop young professionals and we certainly hope you will join in the fun and share with all the young professionals in your life. Please visit our calendar of events to learn about the several ways to connect over the next few weeks.

Anna Toman - Director Of Membership Development

Hey there!

Anna Toman

I’m absolutely delighted to be stepping into my new role as Director of Membership Development at the Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce! Having been a business owner and Chamber member myself, I understand how crucial it is to bring folks together. The connections I made at the Chamber were a game-changer for my business growth and my personal development as a leader.

Sheboygan County holds a special place in my heart. I’ve called Sheboygan home for a decade now, and it’s the people here who make it truly unique. Their passions and their knack for rallying behind one another create such a warm and welcoming community. Not to mention our beautiful natural surroundings and outdoor activities, all make Sheboygan feel like home to me.

When I’m not busy at the Chamber you’ll find me stuffing my face at our restaurants with my grown kids, listening to live music with friends, or on my bike! I’m an avid cyclist and proud member of Team Maywood out of Maywood Environmental Park. This year, I’ve got my sights set on tackling a 100-mile ride before autumn rolls in. I’m also on a mission to learn how to play the drums!

I look forward to seeing you ‘round town, make it a great day!

Leah Bischoff - Transition Concierge Specialist

Hello, everyone, and may the month of May bring you abundant joy and opportunities!

Our Make Your Mark campaign and transition efforts have successfully aided several young professionals in relocating to the Sheboygan County area this past month.

As we expand our recruitment efforts across the Midwest, we aim to reach individuals undergoing transitional phases while catering to people from all walks of life.

Through this campaign, we can assist with housing resources, workforce opportunities, and community connections to foster a sense of belonging.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed connecting with our workforce leaders and recruiters these past few months to gain insights into how we can mutually support Sheboygan County’s hiring needs and attract lifelong residents.

If you have friends or family considering moving to our wonderful county, please have them use the QR code below. We’re all about building connections and making everyone feel at home here!

As the weather warms up, so does the excitement in the Harbor Centre BID! We’re thrilled to see many seasonal businesses reopening their doors. Don’t miss out on the popular Spring Into the BID Contest - remember to submit your receipts by May 15th.

On Saturday, April 27th, we celebrated Earth Day by cleaning up the Downtown, Riverfront, and South Pier areas. BID Members, mark your calendars for the Member Meeting on Tuesday, May 14th, at 7:30 at the Sheboygan County Chamber Office, where you can stay updated on all BID happenings.

Get ready for the 8th Streatery this summer! From June 11th to August 13th, every Tuesday evening, 8th Street will be transformed into a vibrant al fresco eatery, featuring some of the city’s best restaurants and local musicians. Indulge in delicious cuisines while soaking up the atmosphere of this beloved summer tradition, now in its fourth year. Kierra Brooks - Special Events Coordinator

Greetings everyone, and welcome to May, also known as YP Month!

I am thrilled about the exciting lineup of events planned for this month as we celebrate Young Professionals. Our calendar is packed with special occasions designed to honor YP’s. We kick things off with our eagerly awaited Best Under 40 Awards, followed by our YP Mini Conference: “From Stress to Success!” Make sure to consult our monthly calendar on sheboygan.org or any of our social media channels for details. If you have any inquiries or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. If you’ve been contemplating involvement with the YP community, now is the perfect time to dive in and discover what we’re all about. Join us to network and connect with likeminded individuals as we embark on a journey of learning and growth together. Additionally, we’re hosting a few challenges this month: attend an event during YP Month and stand a chance to win Chamber Cash; bring a friend and earn another entry, with your friend also receiving an entry; finally, share a selfie at a YP Month event, tag our social media handles with #coastalypnetwork, and be entered to win Chamber Cash. Looking forward to seeing you all this month!

John Rogers - Business Roundtables

Facilitator

Over the past several days, I’ve been reading Collision of Power by Martin Baron. Baron is a retired journalist and newspaper editor. For me, one of the lessons from the book is the power of the written word versus what is spoken. I can reread portions that are confusing and often more than once to be certain [maybe somewhat] I understand. How many times can you ask a person to repeat what they’ve said before their frustration can lead to something like “You simply don’t get it, do you John?!”

For the peer-to-peer Chamber roundtables, my preparation is somewhat routine: take the handouts, take a tablet, be certain the markers work, have the registration list, etc. For the technology transfer roundtable, i.e. Manufacturing, it may be that what I heard is not as important as I thought.

Back in my environmental engineering days, I visited numerous manufacturing facilities because my role was to help the manufacturer deal with a wastewater discharge challenge. I had to listen carefully during the facility tour to develop a plan to help them minimize or eliminate the pollutants they discharge.

So, my message this month is directed to the manufacturers who will read this: “What are your current concerns, should a technology transfer roundtable be developed with your concerns in mind and are you willing to host this roundtable?” For the remainder of 2024, Manufacturing roundtables are tentatively scheduled for the end of August and the end of October, most likely on the 5th Thursday [August 29 and October 31]. Please, help me zero in on what matters to you since we are truly ‘better together’.

Send your idea[s] to john@sheboygan.org . Thanks!
