What is Maintenance?

Approaches to Electrical Maintenance

Electrical Distribution System Passive Components include the non-moving and non-solid state components Structural Components • Require minimal maintenance • If properly cleaned and monitored in a controlled environment, the passive components may last a long time, however: – Dust, dirt and moisture build-up can affect the insulation system – Loose connections due to improper torque and/or vibration over time can lead to excessive heat and failure • If well maintained, these components substantially outlast the life span of the Active Components in a piece of electrical distribution equipment

Direct Replacement or Retrofill? Our direct replacement and retrofill switchgear modernization solutions will expand the capabilities of your electrical system with minimal downtime. Direct Replacement

Retrofill

Circuit breakers are designed to fit into the existing cubicle with little-to-no modification to the switchgear cell. Reduces downtime since there is minimal (if any) outage on the equipment bus.

The existing switchgear cell and bus are modified to accept the new circuit breaker. This option requires a longer bus outage (compared to the direct replacement option), during which time the internal circuit breaker cell is modified to accept the new circuit breaker.

Switchgear Modernization: LV

Direct Replacement (Low Voltage)

A MasterpactTM cradle is installed into an adapter cradle, which is then installed into the switchgear cubicle.

This cradle-in-cradle assembly locks into place and remains in the switchgear cell after installation.

The new Masterpact circuit breaker racks in and out of the adapter cradle.

A new door is installed, however cell interlocks, the racking mechanism and the switchgear structure are not modified.

Masterpact circuit breakers are installed, tested and commissioned by qualified field service personnel and are backed by a one-year warranty. Extended warranties are available.

Switchgear Modernization: LV

Retrofill (Low Voltage) Features a Masterpact cradle and circuit breaker and includes:

New racking mechanism and primary and secondary connections.

Custom-engineered connection between the switchgear line and load side.

New cubicle doors to match the existing equipment and new circuit breaker face.

Did You Know? New switchgear is usually smaller than the equipment it is designed to replace. The existing conduit may need to be moved and cabling replaced or spliced. Both are expensive and time consuming tasks, often costing more in labor and material than the cost of the new equipment .

Switchgear Modernization: MV

Direct Replacement (Medium Voltage) Our Magnum™ direct replacement circuit breaker is designed to fit directly into the existing OEM switchgear. An adapter cradle is not utilized.

Built with new components and tested to ANSI standards, Magnum circuit breakers interface with the existing circuit breaker compartment components and maintain safety interlocks present in the original equipment design.

Magnum circuit breakers are installed, tested and commissioned by qualified field service personnel and are backed by a one-year warranty. Extended warranties are available.

Designs are available for any manufacturer’s switchgear and include:

Temporary Generator Connection

We offer a turnkey solution for a temporary generator connection to your normal or emergency power system. A temporary generator connection is recommended where one of the following applies:

The authority having jurisdiction requires portable generator connection provisions in addition to the fixed-mounted emergency generators per NEC® article 708.20(F)(6).

The facility is designated as needing continued operation in the event of a widespread disaster and a temporary connection is acceptable to the governing entity.

The facility can withstand short-term disruptions to electrical power but a long-term disruption will jeopardize the business.
